Honda Super EV concept: Electric city car looks almost production ready
Honda will unveil the Super EV concept at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, and the tiny electric hatchback looks almost ready to roll down the factory line.
The company has so far only released one photo of the car, wrapped in disguise, crossing Westminster Bridge in front of the UK's Houses of Parliament.
In recent times most of Honda's concepts have previewed production cars that are about a year or two from launch, such as the Prelude, which come out as a concept in 2023 and will go for a run up the hill at Goodwood in production form this year.
The Super EV looks to fit into this mould with its production-ready full-size wing mirrors, fully-framed windows, functioning door handles, and reasonably-sized wheel and tyre combo. The only show car element that might be dropped in the transition to the showroom are the concept's wide and chunky wheel arches.

The Super EV is described by Honda as an A-segment model, meaning that it will compete against the upcoming all-electric Renault Twingo in Europe.
It may even fall within kei car dimensions — a maximum of 3.4m long and 1.48m wide — which would allow it to be sold in Japan with lower taxes and road charges.
Thanks to its round headlights, the Super EV's styling even fits into the template used by Honda's N family of kei cars, such as the N-One (above).
Honda says the concept marries 'fun-to-drive' with 'trademark Honda usability', and has been out and about in the UK as part of its global development program.
There's no word yet on the Super EV's drivetrain details, but hopefully it will be more competitive than the E hatchback (above), which earned plaudits for its retro styling, but failed largely due to its pricing and limited range.
Equipped with a 35.5kWh battery, and a 100kW or 113kW motor driving the front wheels, the E had a WLTP range rating of just 222km.
The 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place between July 10 and 13.

2025 MG QS price and specs: Kluger rival wears sub-$50k price tag
UPDATED 18/06/2025 1:30pm: The MG QS is now in Australian showrooms, following introductory pricing being announced and orders being opened on May 14. MG has also confirmed introductory pricing, previously set to end on May 31, has been extended. MG has launched its largest SUV yet in Australia, and its first model to offer three rows of seats Down Under. The MG QS will be the Chinese brand's first direct rival for the popular Toyota Kluger, Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento, and undercuts all of them on price. The entry-level front-wheel drive Excite starts at $46,990 drive-away, though MG says this is an introductory offer. This had previously been set to end on May 31, but now there's no end date for this introductory pricing. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. For now at least, though, the MG QS has a drive-away starting price that's around $7000 lower than the base Sorento's, about $11,000 less than the base Santa Fe's, and a whopping $21,000 under the base Kluger's. The all-wheel drive Essence variant is priced at $50,990 drive-away, also for a limited (but unspecified) time only. Unlike the new Jaecoo J8, another recently launched and similarly sized Chinese large SUV, the QS has a third row of seating to allow it to take on the Kluger, Sorento and Santa Fe directly. It features a three-seat second-row bench, with an additional two seats in the rearmost row, for a total of seven seats. The QS is slightly larger than the Kluger, measuring 17mm longer, 37mm wider and 23mm taller on a 65mm longer wheelbase. MG's big new seven-seater is effectively a rebadged RX9 from fellow SAIC Motor Roewe. While the previous-generation model was offered in some markets outside of China as an MG – and the brand has also rebadged the LDV D90 in India as the Gloster – this is the first time MG has offered a three-row SUV in Australia. Pricing Drivetrains and Efficiency Servicing and Warranty The QS is backed by MG's 10-year, 250,000km warranty for private buyers, or seven years and 160,000km for commercial customers. 2026 Nissan Leaf electric car revealed
Don't miss out on the headlines from On the Road. Followed categories will be added to My News. Nissan has thrown a haymaker in its fight back from the brink, unveiling a comprehensively reworked Nissan Leaf that could shift its fortunes around the globe. Having come perilously close to bankruptcy last year, the Japanese giant attempted to merge with Honda and Mitsubishi before going its own way. The first fruit of its effort is a new Nissan Leaf that has morphed from being an awkward-looking hatchback to an attractive SUV. It's a 'make or break' vehicle from a car maker with its back against the wall. MORE: The best EOFY deals on electric cars Nissan's Leaf has a bold new look. Picture: Supplied. New looks borrow elements from the larger Nissan Ariya electric car – a rival to the Tesla Model Y – and the Nissan Z sports car. Finished in eye-catching 'luminous teal' paint for its debut, the car rides on 19-inch wheels that fill its arches better than the old car's 17-inch rims. On the inside, twin 14.3-inch screens promise much-improved connectivity, and a clever Bose stereo has speakers built into the front seats. MORE: The pros and cons of going electric The car's cabin is much more modern than before. Picture: Supplied. Promising more than 600 kilometres of range from a 75kWh battery, the Leaf is powered by a 160kW electric motor that drives the front wheels. A cheaper version offers a 52kWh battery with about 435km of range. Customers can expect to add 430 kilometres of range in half an hour thanks to 150kW fast-charging ability. An SUV body style should broaden its appeal. Picture: Supplied Nissan spokesman Arnaud Charpentier said the new Leaf 'blends elegance, confidence, and breakthrough range – wrapped in a design that's as smart as it is emotional'. 'It brings the best of Nissan innovation to the mainstream, and we're incredibly excited to introduce it to European roads,' he said. The new leaf has a 'vehicle to load' function allowing owners to plug electric appliances into the car. It will also be compatible with 'vehicle to home' and 'vehicle to grid' tech that will allow customers to integrate the car into their home's electric system, like a giant battery. MORE: Driving the outgoing Nissan Leaf The Leaf has up to 600km of range. Picture: Supplied The Nissan Leaf was one of the world's first mass-produced electric cars. It gave the brand an enormous headstart over rivals such as Toyota and Honda, which have struggled for traction in the EV segment. Nissan has sold more than 700,000 examples of the electric Leaf around the globe. But sales of the car have been stagnant in Australia. MORE: The best second-hand EVs The Nissan Leaf is a slow seller in Australia. Nissan Australia sold 484 and 357 examples of the Leaf in 2023 and 2024 – just 841 cars in two years. That compares poorly with sales figures for electric rivals such as the BYD Atto 3 (16,793) and MG4 (10,068) in the same two-year period. Originally published as 2026 Nissan Leaf electric car revealed
