CM Mamata Banerjee's election strategy based on 'appeasement politics', says BJP's Sukanta
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 9 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MP Sukanta Majumdar, on Monday, launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that her entire electoral strategy is rooted in 'appeasement politics.'
In a post on X, Majumdar claimed that Banerjee's political roadmap is centred around two parallel tactics: 'relentless Muslim appeasement' and the 'continuous oppression' of Bengali Hindus.
'The entire game plan of West Bengal's authoritarian Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to win elections rests on one & only strategy,' appeasement politics'. On one side, relentless Muslim appeasement; on the other, continuous oppression of Bengali Hindus and systematic religious persecution all with the sole aim of turning Hindus into a minority and clinging to power at any cost,' he wrote.
The post added on X, 'This is the desperate struggle of a failed Chief Minister! Today, the people of Bengal have only one resolve -- to make West Bengal a livable land for Bengali Hindus once again.'

The video in the post said, 'We are like two flowers on the same stem - Hindu and Muslim' but now. In today's Bengal, it's only the Muslims who are cherished, while the Hindus are the neglected ones. One flower is being appeased, while the other is being consistently exploited. This is Mamata Banerjee's core political strategy to win elections. Soon, Hindus will become a minority in Bengal. This is the grim future awaiting Bengal's Sanatanis.
In Siliguri, communal harmony was shattered by the Chief Minister's pampered vote-bank pawns. Yet, the crackdown selectively targeted Hindus; even violent attacks were unleashed. When people raised slogans like 'Jai Shri Ram' in protest, even the police, acting like party lackeys, were seen issuing threats. A police officer was seen threatening a crowd, 'Keep chanting for now, The real action will be taken at night. Okay? Dare to Say 'Jai Shree Ram' with me at night.' How outrageous is that?
Without a trace of fear or shame, spineless police officers stood before the media cameras and threatened the Hindus for saying 'Jai Shri Ram.' One was even seen looking straight into the eyes of protesters and warning, 'Shout Jai Shri Ram' all you want now, we'll take action at night.' In Mamata's Bengal, even chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' has now become a punishable offense. But don't be afraid, the people of Bengal will soon give a fitting response to this one-sided oppression against Hindus under her regime. In Siliguri, the attackers who targeted Hindus have already been identified. and the list has been submitted to the authorities by Darjeeling BJP MP Raju Bista. He has also appealed to the Governor regarding the matter. This Bengal must be made livable again for Sanatanis. That is now the greatest pledge of the people of Bengal. '
On Saturday, Majumdar also responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's recent allegations regarding electoral rigging in the Maharashtra Assembly elections held in November 2024. Gandhi had claimed that those polls were 'rigged' and suggested a similar pattern would be seen in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Reacting to the Congress leader's statement, Majumdar said, 'The problem with our Opposition is that wherever they win, they say EVMs are right, and where they lose, they say EVMs are faulty and there is match-fixing.'
He likened Gandhi's remarks to the excuses of 'kids who do not know how to play the match and then blame the pitch and the umpire.'
Taking a dig at the Congress leader, Majumdar added, 'Rahul Gandhi does not know how to play. I wish that his prediction that the states without BJP government will have a BJP rule comes true. A BJP government should also be formed in Bengal according to his prediction.'
Majumdar also suggested that Rahul Gandhi should visit West Bengal to witness the state of democracy under the Mamata Banerjee-led government, implying that it would offer him a clearer understanding of the challenges to democratic functioning in the state. (ANI)

Pakistan is in the grip of military-terror nexus: Ravi Shankar Prasad
NEW DELHI: A delegation of lawmakers and former diplomats that visited six European countries to gather support for India's efforts to fight terrorism, told the foreign interlocutors that Pakistan's military did not reciprocate India's initiatives and that the military-terror nexus was the main hurdle to peace, former minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said. Prasad, who led a nine-member delegation that travelled to France, Italy, Denmark, the UK, Belgium and Germany from May 25 to June 7, said the delegation spoke about the historical perspective of how the two nations were born on the same day after Partition but while Pakistan was 'going around with a begging bowl', India was the fourth largest economy. 'We fought four conventional wars, and we were never the aggressors… And treaties were signed but it is the (Pakistan) army that is responsible for tensions between the two countries,' he said. The delegation was one of the seven that were sent to different countries as part of India's diplomatic outreach after New Delhi carried out retaliatory strikes on May 7 across 9 terror camps in territory controlled by Pakistan for the April 22 terror attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 26 people. 'Pakistan is not only a state in denial, but it is in the grip of a deadly combination of military-terrorist nexus. Army generals have been in power for many years, from General Zia ul Haq to Asim Munir. And the generals use these terrorists as proxies to make themselves relevant. That is why there is no peace,' he said. During their interactions abroad, he said the delegation put forth the efforts made by India to establish peaceful bilateral ties, and how these were rebuffed by the neighbouring country. 'No matter which government has been in power, they all have tried to have good relations. PM Narendra Modi invited Nawaz Sharief to his swearing-in ceremony (in 2014), he attended the wedding of his grandson (granddaughter), yet Uri and Pulwama attacks happened,' he said. He was referring to the attack on an Indian army brigade headquarters in Uri, carried out in 2016 by Pakistan trained terrorists and the attack on soldiers in Pulwama in Kashmir in 2019. Asked if the delegation was questioned about the evidence available with India against Pakistan, Prasad said, 'We had enough evidence and our initial comments about the terror attacks would dispel their misconceptions. When they did ask for operation details, we told them that such information cannot be revealed.' To highlight the misuse of international funds by Pakistan, the delegation saidthe last loan that India secured from the IMF was in 1991, but Pakistan continues to borrow and use the funds for weapons. 'It has borrowed 25 times and uses it to buy weapons, and China supplies 80% of these,' Prasad said. To a question on whether India's position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict came up for discussion, Prasad said, 'We were asked about Ukraine and we told them that we have very old relations with Russians. But the PM (Narendra Modi) was clear in telling President Putin that this is not the age of war… and this was televised… Our Prime Minister also said that coming from the land of Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi does not mean that we need to tolerate terrorism.'

Delhi Cabinet Approves Ordinance to Regulate Private School Fees
New Delhi: In a significant move aimed at protecting parents from arbitrary fee hikes, the Delhi Cabinet on Monday approved the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Ordinance, 2025. The decision was taken during the government's 8th cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat. Announcing the decision at a press conference, Delhi's Education Minister Ashish Sood said the ordinance is designed to rein in exploitative fee collection practices by private schools and bring long-awaited financial relief to parents. 'In the last 100 days, every cabinet meeting under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's leadership has resulted in key decisions in public interest,' Sood stated. 'Today's approval is a major step towards ensuring transparency and fairness in school fee structures.' The ordinance, once enacted, will prohibit private schools from arbitrarily increasing fees and is expected to directly impact over 1,600 private schools in the capital. It will take effect retroactively from April 1, 2025, following the President's assent. This means parents who were compelled to pay steep fees earlier this academic year may be eligible for relief. Sood added that the ordinance will be sent to the Lieutenant Governor, who will forward it to the President of India for approval. 'This is a historic day for Delhi's middle-class families,' said Sood. 'For years, under the previous AAP government, parents were burdened by unchecked fee hikes. The BJP government is now taking a decisive step to end this injustice.' He also highlighted that this is the first major education-related legislative initiative by a BJP-led government in Delhi in nearly three decades. Framing the move as part of the broader vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,' Sood emphasized the government's commitment to transparent and citizen-centric enacted, the ordinance will serve as a regulatory framework for Delhi's 1,677 private schools, ensuring that fee hikes are justified, accountable, and in line with parents' expectations.

Ordinance to curb fee hike in private schools cleared by Delhi Cabinet
The Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Ordinance aimed at curbing arbitrary fee hikes in private schools — a move that the government says will bring long-awaited relief to lakhs of students and their families in the Capital. 'The Ordinance will curb arbitrary fee collection by private schools. The previous governments did nothing to check exploitative hikes by these schools,' Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said at a press conference. The Ordinance, titled 'The Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Ordinance 2025,' was approved during the eighth meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday. The government had earlier prepared a draft of the Bill, which was due to be presented in May in the Assembly during the second half of the Budget session. However, the session was later cancelled. Once enacted, following President Droupadi Murmu's nod, the Ordinance will prevent private schools from raising fees without oversight and will apply retroactively from April 1 this year, the government said.'This retrospective provision will especially benefit those parents who were pressured into paying exorbitant and unjustified fees,' Sood said. He described the Ordinance as a 'major move towards ending financial exploitation of hardworking parents and ensuring greater transparency in the education system'. This is the first major education-related law that the Delhi government has pursued in nearly 27 years, the ruling party claimed. 'Today's decision stands out as a major step towards ending exploitative fee collection practices by private schools,' the government said. The move, said Sood, is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' (development for all). The Minister promised that the Ordinance would 'secure the future of children studying in private schools.' The Education Minister was critical of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration, accusing it of failing to check fee exploitation. 'During the tenure of previous governments, particularly the AAP, parents of children studying in private schools were repeatedly subjected to financial exploitation,' Sood said. 'Today, the BJP government in Delhi has taken a landmark decision to end this longstanding injustice,' he added. Earlier, the AAP too had criticised the BJP government for failing to check fee hikes after the party came to power in February. Once implemented, the Ordinance is expected to apply to all 1,677 private schools in Delhi, according to the Education Minister. 'This is a historic day for Delhi's middle-class families,' he added.
