Women In Civil Service Are Nation-builders, Not Just Supporting Figures

PUTRAJAYA, June 25 (Bernama) -- Women in the civil service are not just supporting figures in government agencies but capable leaders, policy thinkers, and nation-builders, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Citing 2023 data from the Public Service Department (PSD), he noted that women made up 59.3 per cent of the public sector workforce, or a total of 765,616 employees, surpassing the number of male civil servants.
'The hand that rocks the cradle is capable of rocking the world. This is very much in line with the seventh target under the MADANI Economy framework, which aims for a 60 per cent female labour force participation rate by 2033.'
Shamsul Azri made the remarks during the closing ceremony of the 43rd Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Association of Wives and Women Civil Servants (Puspanita), officiated by its patron, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, here today.
Shamsul Azri, who is also Puspanita's advisor, emphasised that women are no longer just supporters but are agents of change and capable, respected leaders.
'It's not an exaggeration to say that empowering women today isn't only about preserving a legacy of leadership - it's about expanding their reach and strengthening their opportunities,' he said.
Shamsul Azri also expressed hope that Puspanita would align its new direction with national development goals through the upcoming PUSPANITA Strategic Plan 2026–2030.
'One key area Puspanita must continue to prioritise is welfare and volunteer programmes,' he added, citing Puspanita's recent on-ground support for victims of the Putra Heights gas pipe explosion as an example of meaningful engagement that brought real impact to affected communities.
Also present at the event were Puspanita president Puan Sri Maheran Jamil, Prime Minister's Department senior deputy secretary-general Datuk Abd Shukor Mahmood, and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) deputy editor-in-chief Nasriah Darus.

Kota MADANI To Offer Savings Of Up To RM1,000 A Month For Civil Servants
PUTRAJAYA, June 26 (Bernama) -- The Kota MADANI smart city project here is expected to help civil servants save up to RM1,000 a month in living costs, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. She said that through this project, civil servants would be able to reside in government quarters at minimal cost, with salary deduction for housing totalling only around RM400 per month. 'Their children's schools are nearby and accessible on foot. They can go to and return from school safely as the area is equipped with an advanced security system. 'Fuel costs can also be saved. So they can set aside money for the future,' she said in her speech at the launch of the Kota MADANI development project in Putrajaya's Precinct 19, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today. Dr Zaliha said the government is developing the MADANI concept grounded in reality, not merely as a slogan. Responding to claims that the project would replace Putrajaya, Dr Zaliha clarified that Kota MADANI covers only 0.8 per cent of the entire area of Putrajaya and is a small part of a larger urban planning initiative. 'Putrajaya was built as a symbol of modern and planned administrative capital. Kota MADANI is a continuation and realisation of this vision, with emphasis on a liveable, inclusive, and secure ecosystem,' she said. Kota MADANI is designed as a 'walkable' development with short distances between buildings, integrated with MADANI and CHASE principles — namely integrated development, pedestrian-friendly environments, artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and sustainable and inclusive growth. According to Dr Zaliha, 10,000 units of quarters for civil servants will be built under the project to address the acute shortage currently faced.

MCMC among targets in red-tape reduction drive, says Fahmi
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is among several agencies targeted for reducing bureaucratic red tape, said Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. The Communications Minister announced this following praise for the Communications Ministry's success in cutting red tape through reforms. "I have requested that efforts to overcome bureaucratic red tape be intensified and continued not just within the ministry but also among other agencies and statutory bodies under it," he said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting press conference on Thursday (June 26). He added that one key area under review is the licence approval process within the MCMC. "We will closely examine the application process for licence approvals submitted to the MCMC," he said. He did not provide further details on the proposed reforms or a timeline for implementation. In a Facebook post on Wednesday (June 25), Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar praised the Communications Ministry for initiating reforms. The ministry was among three that received special certificates of appreciation for achievements in reducing red tape. The Communications Ministry reduced approval time for foreign film scripts from 30 days to just seven, saving RM2.4mil per production. The Housing and Local Government Ministry was recognised for speeding up approval times for Electric Vehicle Charging Bay Plan Certifications from 28 days to three. The Fire and Rescue Department expedited approval for non-system-based technical plan certifications from 30 days to seven. Meanwhile, the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) made financing in the aerospace sector more accessible. This move generated RM17mil in regulatory savings for about 50 small and medium enterprises by increasing their production capacity by up to 30%. Fahmi also revealed that his ministry succeeded in reducing bureaucratic red tape involving the Central Agency for Application of Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal). He said the agency used to take a long time to process applications but improved and expedited the process this April. He said this made the application process for concerts and filming activities easier for both local and foreign artists or film companies.

'I don't want them to just show up two months before the election, and start kissing babies, walking into local warungs and stalls, making house visits. I want to put an end to that culture,' he said. Anwar said the Malaysia MADANI approach is not a political gimmick, but a genuine focus on addressing the needs and livelihoods of the majority, especially low- and middle-income groups. 'That's why, every Friday, I make it a point to eat at a local warung or stall for 15 to 20 minutes before Friday prayers. 'It's the only way to see for the (level of) cleanliness, accessibility, and conditions that directly affect 80 per cent of the country's population,' he explained. The Prime Minister also reiterated that Kuala Lumpur no longer needs more iconic skyscrapers, given the presence of landmarks such as the Merdeka 118 Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers.
