Paddy Pimblett: 'I get laughed at for it, but I know I beat Ilia Topuria'
Laugh all you want, but Paddy Pimblett is adamant he can beat Ilia Topuria.
Pimblett (23-3 MMA, 7-0 UFC) sees a fight with fellow UFC star Topuria (16-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) as inevitable. What started as a scuffle in London in March 2022 has now led to potentially one of the biggest fights the UFC could make. Topuria recently went off on Pimblett and said he'd be open to fighting because he "hates" him.
Pimblett is on the cusp of title contention after a dominant finish of Michael Chandler at UFC 314, and Topuria will battle Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight belt in the UFC 317 headliner on June 28.
"If Ilia wins and says he wants to fight me, the UFC will make that fight," Pimblett said of Topuria on Aspinall's YouTube channel. "Because they know it's a money fight. That's one of them fights where they'll do a f*cking world press tour like McGregor-Aldo."
Topuria has never lost in his professional MMA career. After starting out with seven consecutive submission wins, Topuria has leaned on his striking during his UFC featherweight title run. He is coming off back-to-back knockouts of Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway.
"I know I'd beat him," Pimblett said of Topuria. "Funny because I get laughed at for it, but I know I'd beat him. We've already talked about game plans to beat him, and I know how to beat him. No one goes for his weaknesses when they fight.
"Everyone just decides to have a boxing match with him. I'm not going to come out and have a boxing match with him. I am going to beat him with my all-around MMA game. As I said, I know I'd beat him, and I reckon I'd proper hurt him and just shut everyone up even more like I love to do."

Nassourdine Imavov abandons UFC 319 backup role, turns attention to Caio Borralho
Nassourdine Imavov abandons UFC 319 backup role, turns attention to Caio Borralho No backup anymore. Conditions changed. You wanted to talk son, I'm here, I'm gonna break you @BorralhoCaio 🤓 ⏳ — Imavov Nassourdine (@imavov1) June 17, 2025 Nassourdine Imavov says he's no longer the backup for the UFC 319 middleweight title fight. Instead, Imavov (16-4 MMA, 8-2 UFC), the UFC-ranked No. 1 middleweight, wants a scheduled fight of his own against Caio Borralho. The 29-year-old French fighter did not explain why he's abandoning the backup role for Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev, which serves as the UFC 319 main event at United Center in Chicago. "No backup anymore," Imavov wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "Conditions changed. You wanted to talk son, I'm here, I'm gonna break you @BorralhoCaio." Imavov has changed his tune on Borralho (17-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC), after initially dismissing his callout. In April, Borralho claimed Imavov turned down a fight offer, which prompted the Brazilian to sound off. At the time, Imavov didn't see an upside to fighting Borralho, who is further down in the rankings. In the latest MMA Junkie/USA TODAY Sports middleweight rankings, Imavov holds the No. 4 spot with Borralho not too far behind at No. 8. Currently riding a four-fight winning streak that includes wins over Roman Dolidze, Jared Cannonier, Brendan Allen, and former champion Israel Adesanya, Imavov is knocking on the door of a title shot. Borralho is rapidly climbing the ladder at 185 pounds as well, as he is undefeated through seven UFC bouts, including back-to-back bonus-earning performances in his most recent fights against Paul Craig and Jared Cannonier.

Former wrestling champion Ben Askren may need lung transplant, wife says
Former Missouri NCAA Division 1 champion wrestler and UFC fighter Ben Askren is being evaluated for a lung transplant, his wife revealed Tuesday, after he was hospitalized with severe pneumonia. File Photo by Bill Greenblatt/UPI | License Photo June 17 (UPI) -- Former UFC fighter and wrestling champion Ben Askren is in the process of being evaluated for a possible lung transplant, his wife revealed Tuesday, as he is "still fighting" for his life. Askren, 40, was hospitalized in critical condition earlier this month in Wisconsin with a severe case of pneumonia, caused by a staph infection. He is currently sedated on a ventilator and ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation). "I haven't shared an update because Ben has been in limbo for a while and I was hoping to have him wake up and be the one to decide what to share," Amy Askren wrote Tuesday on Facebook. "Ben is still on a ventilator and ecmo to support him while he heals. There are good days and bad, but on the good, they have been able to wean his sedation enough for him to open his eyes and squeeze hands," his wife added. "His body can't handle coming off sedation too much yet. I'm still praying for a miracle with his current lungs, but they are currently starting the evaluation process for lung transplant," she said. "I know transplants are such a blessing and I'm overwhelmed at the thought of him receiving a gift like that. No one would take better care of that gift than Ben." Askren retired from MMA in 2019, but returned for a boxing bout vs. Jake Paul in 2021. He was a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team and was a two-time NCAA Division I champion in wrestling. "Ben is the healthiest guy I know and I never could have expected this," his wife added. "Please pray for his continued healing, and if transplant is the solution, that he can get on the list quickly and easily." Athletes, wrestlers and the UFC have offered their thoughts, as Askren remains hospitalized, and prayers as he undergoes evaluation for a lung transplant. "We here at the UFC certainly join in sending all our support to Ben, his wife Amy and their kids as they stay strong through this difficult fight."

Chael Sonnen suggests Kamaru Usman fight welterweight 'alpha male' to earn UFC title shot
Chael Sonnen suggests Kamaru Usman fight welterweight 'alpha male' to earn UFC title shot Chael Sonnen would like to see Kamaru Usman earn his title shot by facing the original No. 1 contender at welterweight. After rebounding against Joaquin Buckley in Saturday's UFC on ESPN 69 headliner, Usman (21-4 MMA, 16-3 UFC) called out the winner of welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena vs. Islam Makhachev, which is expected to take place later in the year. While Sonnen isn't totally against the idea of Usman being next in line, he suggests the former champ take on Shavkat Rakhmonov (19-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC), who was meant to fight for the title at UFC 315 before withdrawing due to injury. "I think one strategy, because I do believe Shavkat to be the true No. 1 contender," Sonnen said on "Good Guy/Bad Guy" with Daniel Cormier. "I do believe when Shavkat comes back, he's probably going to walk right into a title fight, and I do believe between Islam and Jack, I think Shavkat is the alpha male in that room. I just think he's the right size, and I think he matches up really well. I offer you that, because I think that Kamaru could come out publicly and start going after Shavkat, saying let me fight him. 'Let me fight him for a No. 1 contendership,' of which if he won, I think he would be granted. "But even absent of getting that fight, should Shavkat walk right into a title fight, Usman's now still aligning himself with one of the top two guys. I think strategy-wise, if he could align himself properly with Shavkat, and nobody's going to ask for that job. Nobody out there's going to ask to fight Shavkat. If he could come in and somehow get some business with him, it could pay off big." Rakhmonov emerged as No. 1 contender after defeating Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision last December at UFC 310. He was unable to make UFC 315 to challenge then-champion Belal Muhammad and was replaced by Della Maddalena, who defeated Muhammad to claim the belt.
