One of the most Big Ten knowledgeable national college football writers unfortunately has the Spartans as one of the worst teams in the league next year.
Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports released his post-spring Big Ten power rankings earlier this week, and it was not good news for the Spartans. Fornelli had Michigan State coming in at No. 15 out of 18 teams in the league in his power rankings.
Here's what Fornelli had to say about the Spartans:
"A little peek behind the curtain for you all. If I were to break these power rankings into tiers instead of individual slots, everybody from No. 8 USC to Michigan State down here at 15 would be in the same tier. All of these teams have similarities and are a breakthrough player away from leapfrogging plenty of teams. For Michigan State, that player is quarterback Aidan Chiles. The Spartans will go as far as he's capable of taking them."
At least Fornelli stated that the gap between Michigan State and USC at No. 8 really isn't that big if he's putting them all in the same tier. But it is still alarming to see the Spartans this low in the Big Ten power rankings, especially, with this being such an important year for Michigan State in its efforts to get things back on track in football.
Michigan State opens the 2025 season in a home non-conference matchup against Western Michigan on August 30.

FOX Sports names Notre Dame safety Adon Shuler a breakout candidate for 2025
Notre Dame continues to rack up preseason accolades. As the 2025 college football season nears, FOX Sports ranked its Top 10 breakout candidates, and Fighting Irish defender Adon Shuler made the list. The redshirt sophomore safety was a big part of Notre Dame's stout defense on its journey to the College Football Playoff national championship game. He became a first-year starter in former coordinator Al Golden's defense, and it was a unit that finished 11th in total defense, fourth in scoring defense and fourth in pass defense. Shuler, a former four-star recruit, played 768 snaps—third-most on the team—and recorded 59 tackles with three interceptions, including a Pick-Six against Georgia Tech. The safety will now be a veteran presence in the secondary under new DC Chris Ash, especially with Xavier Watts and Jordan Clark now in the NFL. This is a Fighting Irish secondary that expects to be among the nation's best this fall. Notre Dame makes offer to wide receiver/cornerback Duvay Williams
The Fighting Irish could use Williams' ability to play more than one position Duvay Williams has received an offer from Notre Dame. The cornerback/wide receiver is class of 2027 out of Junipero Sierra in Gardena, Ca. and he stands six-foot-two and weighs 170 pounds. He's been a Polynesian Bowl All-American. He's also a five-star recruit. Notre Dame has been recruiting hard this offseason, with some exciting commitments. A run to the national championship game will do that. And while this is just an offer, not a commitment, the Irish could probably use a player with two-way skills like Williams. He could either bolster the passing game -- which probably does need bolstering -- or be a part of a defense that has been lockdown of late. We'll see what he chooses. Texas A&M football lands massive commitment from four-star offensive tackle
Let's have a day up front 🙌Welcome to Aggieland, @zadenkrempin 👍 The massive day continues for the big guys up front, as Texas A&M offensive line coach Adam Cushing landed a commitment from the program's second four-star linemen of the 2026 recruiting cycle. Head coach Mike Elko hit the gold mine in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as 6-foot-5 and 280-pound offensive tackle Zaden Krempin pinned College Station as his next stomping ground on Wednesday afternoon. The standout lineman from Prosper High School has formulated a reputation for being one of the most dominant players in the country, and he will now look to further establish himself with the Aggies. On tape, it does not take long to find Krempin among the carnage on the offensive line. Chances are that you will likely witness him driving opposing players into the dirt, which has become a standard for the No. 19 IOL in the country, per 247 Sports Player Rankings. His athleticism and technical ability are two of his strongest attributes that make him one of the most dangerous offensive linemen in his class. Krempin received offers from 53 schools, including the likes of storied and elite programs like Michigan, Texas, LSU and Alabama, just to name a few. Above all those, he chose Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies. Many believed he narrowed his choices down to the Wolverines, Longhorns and Tigers, but it was Cushing and company that got the nod for the second offensive linemen commitment of the day. His announcement to stay in Texas and play for the Maroon and White marks the 21st commit of the 2026 cycle for Elko. While the program currently ranks as the No. 2 recruiting class according to media outlets like On3 Sports and 247 Sports, the continuous onslaught of commitments could very well propel Texas A&M to the No. 1 spot in the rankings soon.
