"For The First Time, I Could...": Foreigner After Visiting India's Cleanest City

NDTV6 days ago
India has become an increasingly popular destination for foreign vloggers eager to explore its vibrant culture, rich heritage, and diverse landscapes. However, many tourists arrive with preconceived notions - one of the most common being India's struggle with cleanliness. Images of crowded streets, open dumping grounds, and pollution often dominate expectations, while the idea of a spotless, well-managed city rarely comes to mind. But for one foreign content creator, a visit to Indore completely changed that perception.
After learning that Indore had been declared India's cleanest city, Instagram blogger Victoria decided to see it for herself. What she found left her pleasantly surprised. In her video, she highlighted Indore's remarkably clean streets and well-organised infrastructure. "After Delhi's heatwave, Indore felt fresh and green," she said. "For the first time in India, I could move around freely and safely," she added.

Social media users were quick to react with enthusiasm after seeing the blogger's video on Indore. In just a few hours, the video accumulated more than 63,000 views and over 2,200 likes.
Notably, Indore retained the top position among the cleanest cities for the eighth time in a row, followed by Surat and Navi Mumbai in the government's annual cleanliness survey. In the category of 3-10 lakh population category, Noida emerged as the cleanest city, followed by Chandigarh and Mysore.
This year's survey, the ninth edition of Swachh Survekshan, assessed over 4,500 cities using a rigorous framework of 10 parameters and 54 indicators, with a focus on sanitation, waste management, and service delivery. The overarching theme was 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle', reflecting the government's push for sustainable urban development.
Indore's continued dominance earned it a place in the newly introduced Super Swachh League, a category created to recognise cities that have consistently ranked in the top three over the past three years and remain in the top 20 per cent of their population category.

Passenger on India debut: I would love to work in a Bollywood film

Though he's visited India quite a few times as a tourist, his week-long sojourn this November is extra special. Passenger aka Mike Rosenberg is looking forward to marking his music debut in India with a three-city tour. 'India has always been close to my heart. I've been to Kerala so many times and the place is magical. But I never got a chance to travel to other parts of the country. During my week-long musical trip to India, I wish to soak in the magic and culture of the beautiful place,' says the multi-award-winning English singer-songwriter, who will be performing Passenger India 2025 across Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The tour has been produced and promoted by Bookmyshow Live. Passenger(Photo: Instagram) As he speaks to us from the UK, he admits that he's aware of the kind of love his music receives in India. 'Thanks to social media and other music platforms, I get to gauge the love Indians shower on me and my music. Since I'm a lot into indie folk, I know Indians resonate with that kind of work. I can't wait to take the stage and offer all that I have to my fans during my India tour. I want my concerts to be the best Indians have seen. People spend money and invest so much time and emotions in attending a concert, and I make sure I make my gigs interactive so that they feel a part of it,' says Passenger. The 41-year-old, who calls himself 'lazy' when it comes to educating himself with music from other countries, says he's aware of the kind of popularity Indian musicians such as AR Rahman command globally, and he hopes to learn more about such artistes and their works. The singer, best-known for his chartbuster Let Her Go, shares, 'I would love to work in a Bollywood film. Though my trip is really packed, I hope to catch up with some artistes and explore the possibility of collab. I feel I can connect with Indian audiences, as the themes for my music - love, loss and introspection- are something Indians resonate with.'

Leon Draisaitl and Celeste Desjardins' elegant French wedding On August 2, Leon Draisaitl and Celeste Desjardins exchanged vows in Les Baux-de-Provence, France, a picturesque location known for its scenic landscapes and historic architecture. The ceremony was dripping with elegance, attended by family, close friends, and fellow NHL stars. Although the wedding was a private affair, the celebrations were not. Another showed Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl walking through quaint streets, while Lauren and Celeste enjoyed some lounging by the shores. Lauren's white dress and Connor's laid-back beige-and-white getup carried the laid-back yet chic vibe of the trip. The chemistry and relationships of the couples from the two hockey powerhouses sparkled amidst candid moments, with Lauren wrapping her arm behind Connor's back, or Celeste letting loose with laughter next to Leon. These acts of grace slid together, inching to find a sort of reunion with everyone--or rather, with everything. Lauren kept her captions poetic in their brevity so they need not say anything: the pictures did all the talking.
