Man arrested after fiery 5-vehicle Gardiner crash in early July: police
Police said they arrested a 26-year-old man from Caledon, Ont., after he turned himself in this week. He has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
Just after 5:30 p.m. on July 8, police were called about a multi-vehicle collision on the Gardiner Expressway near Lower Jarvis Street, Toronto police said in a news release Thursday.
Three of the five vehicles caught fire following the crash. One of the cars that became engulfed in flames also flipped on its side against a highway barrier, police said.
The driver of one of the vehicles, a 68-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Four people were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while two others were treated by paramedics at the scene.
The accused was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Tuesday, police said.

10 cops arrested for corruption in Edenvale over cigarettes, cash and Panado theft
Ten officers from the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) were arrested on Monday for alleged corruption. News24 confirmed that of those arrested, six are from the EMPD and four are from the Tsakane police station. Man in hospital after karaoke bar shooting in North York: police
One man is in hospital following a shooting at a karaoke bar in North York early Monday. The incident happened near Victoria Park Avenue and Sparks Avenue at around 12:45 a.m., Toronto police said in a social media post. Police arrived at the scene and located a man with gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital with serious injuries, paramedics said. Police said the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
