A man has been arrested in connection with a fiery, five-vehicle crash that killed one person and injured several others earlier this month, Toronto police say.
Police said they arrested a 26-year-old man from Caledon, Ont., after he turned himself in this week. He has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
Just after 5:30 p.m. on July 8, police were called about a multi-vehicle collision on the Gardiner Expressway near Lower Jarvis Street, Toronto police said in a news release Thursday.
Three of the five vehicles caught fire following the crash. One of the cars that became engulfed in flames also flipped on its side against a highway barrier, police said.
The driver of one of the vehicles, a 68-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Four people were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while two others were treated by paramedics at the scene.
The accused was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Tuesday, police said.
Anyone with more information about the incident is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
