Pacers vs. Bulls stats, box score: How did Johnny Furphy, Kam Jones do?
Here are three observations.
Johnny Furphy had just three buckets in the first half of Monday's game, but all of them were loud.
The 6-9 wing from Australia by way of Kansas drilled a 3-pointer from the right elbow with 4:03 to go in the first quarter and immediately followed that up by stealing the ball from Chicago's Matas Buzelis, threw the ball ahead and then ran down the floor and threw down a tomahawk dunk.
Then in the second quarter, Furphy had an even more impressive dunk. He grabbed a defensive rebound, put the ball behind his back around the 3-point line, cocked the ball back almost to his hip and threw down over top of Bulls rookie Noa Essengue, the Frenchman the Bulls picked with the No. 12 pick in this year's draft.
Furphy scored more in the second half and finished with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. He had a few mishaps, twice fouling Buzelis on 3-point shots with the Bulls forward converting one of those into a four-point play. However, he's still showing speed in transition, sharp movement off the ball in the halfcourt and physicality on both ends as he tries to put himself in the conversation for rotation minutes this season.
The Pacers' No. 38 overall pick in the draft Kam Jones had a relatively quiet first two games, but he responded Monday with his strongest performance to date.
The former Marquette star is known as a streaky shooter, but in this case he was positively streaky as he knocked down four of his five 3-point attempts. He's also known as a crafty scorer in the lane and in particular around the rim and he showed that off with some particularly smooth finishes in that area of the floor.
Jones finished with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting. He also dished out six assists and recorded three steals. He had some issues with turnovers, committing six, but he showed signs he could be a bucket-getter off the bench.
Enrique Freeman is going to have to fight to keep his two-way contract and Taelon Peter is giving him a run for his money, but the former Akron star posted his second-straight double-double. The Summer League game obviously gives him a better shot of not being overpowered as he tends to be undersized in the frontcourt during NBA games, but he is taking advantage around the rim on offense and on the glass on defense.
Freeman scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, knocking down 2-of-3 3-point shots, and grabbed 10 rebounds including eight on the defensive end. He also dished out two assists, recorded a steal and blocked two shots showing good activity on the defensive end. He'll have to keep fighting to keep his spot, but he's making a good case for himself in the past two games.

NBA rumors: Ben Simmons' expected decision amid Knicks, Celtics interest
The post NBA rumors: Ben Simmons' expected decision amid Knicks, Celtics interest appeared first on ClutchPoints. NBA veteran Ben Simmons is looking at what is next as an unrestricted free agent. At this point, the New York Knicks are expressing interest in snatching him up. Among the teams expressing interest in Simmons are the Boston Celtics and the Phoenix Suns. At this point, the Knicks and Celtics have the greater interest in Simmons, per Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. Reportedly, Simmons is expected to narrow his decision sometime soon. Furthermore, Siegel believes that Simmons will likely end up with the Knicks. Simmons is 29 years old and still has productive years ahead of him. Although his skills have diminished due to injuries and a back problem, he has played for the Brooklyn Nets and the LA Clippers. Last year, Simmons averaged 5.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists while playing in 51 total games. Since 2016, Simmons has become a recognizable presence in the NBA after being drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers. In 2018, he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year. Simmons was an NBA All-Star in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Ben Simmons and his potential with the Knicks At first glance, the thought of Simmons joining the New York Knicks may seem perplexing to some, considering the vulnerabilities he brings. Nevertheless, he also possesses a particular skill set that could be beneficial to Coach Mike Brown. After all, Brown emphasizes the importance of defense, which is where Simmons can step up and contribute. In addition, the Knicks are loaded with talent coming off an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals. They have a solid core of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Josh Hart. From a name standpoint, Simmons can fit right in. However, there may be limited opportunities for Simmons to get the ball due to being prone to injuries, as well as wanting to get the most out of these key players. Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns gives scoop on 2-hour Mike Brown dinner
The post Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns gives scoop on 2-hour Mike Brown dinner appeared first on ClutchPoints. In his first public appearance since the hiring of new head coach Mike Brown, New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns opened up about a pivotal offseason moment. Towns had a two-hour dinner with Brown in Las Vegas, setting the tone for the upcoming Knicks season. Appearing on 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony, Towns emphasized the importance of the meeting, saying it was the first real conversation between the two. 'We have a chance to win a championship and that's only going to happen if everyone's connected,' Towns said. Towns went on to describe the dinner as an opportunity to gain insight into Brown's philosophy on basketball, practices, and team culture. That level of communication is significant for a Knicks team looking to take the next step after reaching the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in over two decades. Following their playoff loss to the Indiana Pacers, New York stunned many by firing Tom Thibodeau and bringing in the two-time Coach of the Year. Brown, who has a proven track record of building systems around playmaking bigs like Draymond Green and Domantas Sabonis, now takes over a roster led by Towns and All-NBA guard Jalen Brunson. Karl-Anthony Towns and the Knicks could reach a new level under Mike Brown Towns, who averaged 24.4 points and 12.8 rebounds while shooting 42% from three last season, could see his role evolve under Brown. While he's never been the primary playmaker, Brown may look to involve him more from the elbow or high post, helping keep Towns mentally engaged and easing the burden on Brunson. With offseason additions like Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele bolstering a once-thin bench, and elite role players like OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart rounding out the rotation, expectations in New York are higher than ever. The key, as Towns said, will be chemistry. ' [When] you have locker rooms that are that connected, you can't be bothered by any of the outside noise and stuff, that's when you have a championship team,' Towns shared. 'Because at the end of the day, people will talk. [But] as long as everyone in that locker room believes in each other and this goal we have, ain't none of that sh*t matters on the outside.' Bulls leaning into Michael Jordan nostalgia for 2025-26
Bulls leaning into Michael Jordan nostalgia for 2025-26 originally appeared on The Sporting News The Chicago Bulls are going all-in on their Michael Jordan glory days ahead of yet another doomed season. The Bulls haven't been even in sniffing distance of legitimate championship contention in a decade. They responded to a 50-win 2014-15 season and a hard-fought second-round playoff exit by firing head coach Tom Thibodeau. It was the first in a series of boneheaded decisions that ultimately cost Chicago everything. Now, Chicago is a perpetual play-in tournament team, too semi-competent to totally tank and thus get the best odds for an elite lottery pick, but too bad to actually make the playoffs. The Bulls have made three such futile postseason runs, and have missed the playoffs in seven of the last eight seasons. The only moves of note that Chicago made this offseason were flipping oft-hurt reserve point guard Lonzo Ball for former Cleveland Cavaliers 10th man wing Isaac Okoro, re-signing free agent guard Tre Jones, selecting raw forward Noah Essengue with the No. 12 pick in this year's draft, and trading down for the draft rights to big man Lachlan Olbrich, the No. 55 pick. So ahead of what's likely to be another uninspiring season in 2025-26, Chicago is doing its darnedest to remind fans of what it once was. MORE NEWS:Dwyane Wade blames LeBron James for ruining planned Bulls superteam Per Anthony Gharib of ESPN, the Bulls are bringing back the black-and-red pinstripe jerseys they first donned during their 72-10 championship season in 1995-96. They're now dubbed Chicago's "Statement Jerseys" for this season. Per Gharib, the Bulls have also worn the threads in 1996-97 (when they won another title), 2008-08 and 2012-13. Chicago itself showed off the return to the red pinstripes on its X account, bringing in Hall of Fame former Bulls power forward Dennis Rodman, who won three consecutive titles alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen from the 1995-96 season through 1997-89, to model the duds. Although the 2025-26 Bulls roster likely doesn't sport any future Hall of Famers, it is talented enough to not be, say, the 2024-25 Washington Wizards. Still, it makes sense for a team that effectively doesn't have a traditional power forward on its roster and is overloaded with guards to lean into a starry past — and to look beyond a sad present.
