The Sacramento Kings have a hole to fill at the lead guard position. This feels odd considering the collection of guards they just had in the building during prior seasons.

The Kings send franchise point guard De'Aaron Fox to his next destination before this year's NBA trade deadline. Fox can now look forward to a partnership with Victor Wembanyama in 2025-26.
A few seasons before that move, the Kings also had Tyrese Haliburton in house. They chose Fox over him and shipped Haliburton away to the Indiana Pacers. Now, they can only watch as their former point guard enjoys an NBA Finals run with his new team.

In the spirit of trading away guards, the Kings were predicted to send away Malik Monk this summer. However, this time, the circumstances are a little different.

Will Zimmerle suggested a trade idea with the Toronto Raptors. The following package would land the Kings a franchise point guard once more.
Sacramento Kings Receive: Immanuel Quickley.
Toronto Raptors Receive: Malik Monk, Jonas Valanciunas.
Zimmerle noted, "Scott Perry was the GM who originally drafted Quickley in New York. If he wants to reshape the roster to his vision, bringing in someone he trusts to run the ship at the point guard position feels like a strong way to start that transition."
It feels difficult to understand where the Raptors' motivation to execute this deal would be. Quickley just received a new contract from the team last offseason, implying that Masai Ujiri values the shifty guard as an important part of his core.

The Raptors guard has appeared in some trade rumors this offseason. However, that has been for the likes of Kevin Durant.
The Kings would be wise to call the Raptors about the availability of Quickley this summer. However, they would likely be forced to a package stronger than the one suggested above.

Shane Steichen on where Colts' QB battle stands going into 2nd preseason game

Following the Indianapolis Colts' joint practice with the Green Bay Packers, head coach Shane Steichen still isn't ready to put a timeline on when a decision at quarterback will be made. "We'll work through that," Steichen said via "We had today, we got a preseason game (Saturday), we have some practices next week and we'll work through that. I don't have an exact timetable on it, but sooner rather than later would be nice." Steichen added that he wants to see how Saturday plays out and see where things go early next week. Perhaps part of the difficulty here is that from the outside looking in, it doesn't look like either quarterback has seized control of the starting job. Anthony Richardson has certainly improved on his short to intermediate throws, an area that was a priority for him during the offseason. His decision-making has gotten better as well. However, as ESPN's Stephen Holder put it in a recent article of his, Richardson has still been "somewhat boom-or-bust" -- able to generate the big plays but still missing some easy throws he has to make. On the flip side, Daniel Jones has been an efficient passer throughout his career but has struggled to create explosive plays down the field. If Steichen truly does view this quarterback competition as close, my guess would be that Richardson gets the nod, but that still remains to be seen. Deciding who will start Week 1 isn't only about completion rate either. As Steichen has said, he's looking for consistency, and that goes across the board. "I think it all matters, it all counts," Steichen said. "Every rep matters. Every walkthrough matters. Every meeting matters. It all matters. So, everything's being evaluated." From the sounds of it, Saturday's preseason game will be a crucial part of this decision-making process. This article originally appeared on Colts Wire: Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones? Hawthorn player tipped as potential target for Eagles in AFL trade with Harley Reid

West Coast are confident they can keep Harley Reid at the club as he is tempted by huge offers in Victoria and Hawthorn have entered the race for the youngster with their ruckman reported to be part of the potential trade. Eagles Coach Andrew McQualter has revealed he is optimistic Reid will remain in Perth with the 20-year-old enjoying his time at the club. The Eagles offer is rumoured to be about $24 million over 11 years - composing of an initial two-year deal with a trigger for the remaining nine. A number of Victorian clubs appear to be interested in throwing huge money at Reid to bring him back to his home state. This week St Kilda coach Ross Lyon attempted to shut down links between his club and Reid after rumours swirled the club was tossing up a $25 million deal for the Eagles player. However, now it appears Hawthorn could be at the front of the queue for Reid. Speaking on Nine News, reporter Tom Morris feels the Hawks are primed to grab Reid if he wants a move. "He's the big fish among the contracted ones to watch. If he asked for a trade, I firmly believe Hawthorn is at the front of the cue," Morris said. And Morris claimed a player that could be used in a trade for Reid, if he wants to move, could be Hawthorn ruckman Ned Reeves. The 26-year-old has not featured much for Hawthorn in recent years and is contracted until 2026. And Morris feels he could be used in part of a trade if it comes to it. "Ned Reeves could easily head to the Eagles as part of a possible Harley Reid trade," Morris added. Despite speculation mounting around where Reid will end up, coach McQualter is pretty confident the 20-year-old midfield superstar won't be going anywhere. West Coast confident in Harley Reid deal While Hawthorn may be looking at a trade deal for Reid, coach McQualter has praised the 20-year-old's attitude and feels he will want to remain in Perth. "I'm really confident Harley will be here," McQualter said on Thursday. "Every day Harley turns up to work, he's incredibly invested in this team, this club. So yeah, I'm really optimistic that Harley will be here." McQualter claimed it wasn't just for next year, but was confident Reid would stay for the long-haul. "I'm talking for a long time," he added. "The young man is really invested. He's working hard to make us become better, to get himself better. He cares about the group, cares about the club. So there's signs that point to me that he's really invested." When asked about whether $2 million a season was reasonable to spend on one player, McQualter doubled down. "Money's different to what it used to be," he added. "When I played, I got paid $48,000. So if you're asking me would I have taken $2 million - the answer is yes, I would have. Was I worth it? No, I think that's pretty obvious. "But I think that's just where the game's trending. It's going up. It'll happen eventually - someone will be that player. There was a time when no one was a million dollar player, and that broke a record. So that'll just be what happens, and it will keep moving like that in the future."

Arch Manning doesn't make Manning Award watch list

Arch Manning is the preseason Heisman Trophy favorite, but he's not officially on the radar of the award named after his family. Yet. The watch list for the 2025 Manning Award, which recognizes the nation's top quarterback, was released Thursday with 27 different quarterbacks making the cut. Manning, whose family is the namesake of the award, wasn't one of them. Manning entered the Texas program as one of the most hyped recruits in college football history and is taking over the starting job after two seasons of backing up Quinn Ewers. He was the favorite to go first overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, until his grandfather Archie said he expected him to stay at Texas for his senior season. There is a reason for Manning not making the Manning Award watch list, though. Every quarterback who made the cut saw significantly more action last year than the 21-year-old, who appeared in 10 games but started only two for Longhorns. The Manning Award's announcement makes clear that additional quarterbacks will be added to the watch list as the season progresses, and you would figure that Manning will be an easy choice if he performs as expected. And if he is one of the frontrunners, we'll see how he does with a voting panel that includes multiple family members. The Manning family might even be in on some kind of joke here, as Archie is directly quote in the release saying they will review the newcomers: "We're looking forward to another exciting year of college football," said Archie Manning. "I'd like to thank the Sugar Bowl for continuing to build the tradition of the Manning Award which now has over 20 years of honoring the top quarterbacks in the country for the entire football season. This year we have another great group on our preseason Watch List; in October, we'll review the transfers and other newcomers and then boost the Watch List with the best from that group." If you're curious, here's the full list of quarterbacks on the preseason watch list, which includes Penn State's Drew Allar and LSU's Garrett Nussmeier, the new favorites to go first overall in the draft next year.
