PM-KISAN payout helps farmers buy diesel for tractors in State

New Delhi: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, farmers in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on Saturday expressed gratitude, saying the scheme has significantly helped them buy diesel for tractors, and pay wages to labourers. The PM-KISAN scheme has been a crucial support for farmers during difficult times. In Karnataka's Dharwad district, farmers said that the PM-KISAN initiative is making a positive impact on their agricultural activities. The funds help not only in purchasing seeds and fertilisers but also in managing household expenses, including school and college fees for their children. The scheme, launched by the PM Modi government, aims to provide income support to small and marginal farmers across the country. Under PM-KISAN, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments directly into their bank accounts. Speaking to IANS, farmers shared how the scheme has improved their lives. Nagappa Ganiger, a farmer from Dharwad, said, 'The PM-KISAN scheme has been a great help during tough times. It has enabled me to buy diesel for tractors and pay wages to labourers on time. So far, 20 installments have been credited to my account without fail. I am thankful to Prime Minister Modi.' Another farmer, Basavaraj Gunjal, added, 'With the aim of doubling farmers' income, Prime Minister Modi has introduced several farmer-friendly initiatives. The Rs 6,000 annual support through PM-KISAN has been a real benefit. On behalf of all farmers, I express my sincere thanks to him.'

Iconic Charbagh station wheeling towards a modern makeover

Come 2026, the railway's architectural gem will get two massive concourses, which will handle a rush of up to 10,000 passengers daily and offer a bouquet of facilities to travellers. The iconic Charbagh railway station building is a testament to Lucknow's cultural tapestry, weaving together Awadh's regal charm and British architectural finesse. Since its inception in 1926, this architectural gem—known for its unique design that muffles the clamour of trains—has been a bustling gateway for travellers. Now, it's poised for a major transformation, as the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has laid out a Rs 420 crore redevelopment project to turn Charbagh into a world-class transit hub that blends heritage with cutting-edge functionality. A Vision for the future The project encompassing both the Northern Railway and North Eastern Railway zones will accommodate a staggering 1.40 lakh passengers daily while ensuring seamless connectivity, sustainability, and passenger comfort. The station's redevelopment is a delicate balancing act—preserving its historical essence while introducing modern amenities to meet the demands of a rapidly growing city. At the heart of the transformation are two massive concourses: a 120 metres x 115 metres structure for NR and a 75m x 30m concourse for NER, designed to handle peak-hour crowds of up to 10,000 passengers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? 'The idea is seamless movement,' said a rail official. The western FOB will link directly to the Lucknow Metro's Charbagh station, connecting both NER station and NR concourses, with escalators and lifts for accessibility. The eastern FOB will tie Station Road and Kanpur Road directly to platform No. 1 and further. Elevating the passenger experience A sprawling ground plus six-floor building spanning 45,270 square metres at the rear will house airconditioned waiting areas, food courts, dormitories, and commercial spaces. New blocks on the east and west will enhance accessibility and aesthetics, while dedicated drop-off/pick-up zones and widened roads will ease traffic congestion. Parking facilities for 900 two-wheelers and 900 four-wheelers will cater to the station's bustling traffic. Passenger amenities are at the core of the design. Retiring rooms, cloakrooms, medical facilities, CCTV surveillance, baggage scanners, and smart signage systems will elevate the travel experience. The NR zone, which currently has nine platforms, will get two more — all 11 platforms to be accessible via the elevated concourse. This concourse will double as a vibrant hub with waiting areas, shops, and other facilities for travellers. Sustainability and innovation Sustainability is woven into the project's core. Rainwater harvesting systems, stormwater management, and landscaped public spaces reflect a commitment to environmental stewardship. The use of pre-engineered buildings, modular construction, and building information modelling ensures precision and efficiency, minimizing waste and maximizing durability. Progress amid challenges The transformation is well underway, with over 84% of the rear station building structure complete. Platform panel casting is finished, and external development is progressing. An integrated running room with 326 beds and a new workshop store are ready for handover. However, the journey hasn't been without hurdles. The rear entry project, initially slated for completion by Dec 2025, has been delayed to May 2026 due to challenges like the Kumbh Mela rush, the relocation of railway assets, and land availability issues. A 56-day block is currently in place to develop the concourse over platforms 2 through the rear entry is complete, railway operations will shift to the southern side, freeing up the northern front for Rail Land Development Authority to begin work on the station's iconic facade. Existing railway offices, rest houses, and utility structures are being relocated to make way for these new developments. Honouring a legacy Charbagh's historical significance is not lost in this transformation. The redevelopment respects its 1926 design, celebrated for muffling train sounds legacy, blending timeless elements with modern aesthetics that reflect Lucknow's evolving identity as a vibrant metropolis. A new chapter by 2026 As the project races toward its anticipated completion in the last quarter of 2026, Charbagh railway station is poised to emerge as a beacon of progress, a transit hub that honours its storied past while embracing the future. Modi's Swadeshi push amid global uncertainty

Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi onSaturday called on citizens to adopt the spirit of "Swadeshi" and support locally-made products, stressing that true service to the nation lies in promoting indigenous goods, especially amid "global economic uncertainties". Addressing a public meeting in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi, Modi said, "As we talk about economic progress, I want to draw your attention to the current global scenario. "The world economy is facing instability and uncertainty. In such times, countries are focusing solely on their own interests. India, too, is on the path to becoming the world's third-largest economy and must remain alert to its own economic priorities." The Prime Minister's renewed push for 'Swadeshi' (indigenous) comes amid the US announcing tariffs on exports from about 70 nations, including India. According to the White House order, India now faces tariffs of 25 per cent for its exports to the US. Emphasising that farmers, small industries and employment for youths are the top-most priorities for the government, Modi said, "The government is doing everything possible in this direction. But as citizens, we too have responsibilities." Calling for a national movement to support local products, the Prime Minister said, "This is not just about Modi saying it, every Indian should say this -- if we want India to become the third-largest economy, every political party and every leader, keeping aside their hesitations, must work in the nation's interest and awaken the spirit of Swadeshi among the people." He also urged people to be conscious consumers, saying, "Whatever we buy, we should ask ourselves -- has an Indian toiled to make this? If it has been made by the sweat of our people, with their skills, that product is Swadeshi for us. We must adopt the mantra of 'Vocal for Local'." Making a special appeal to traders and shopkeepers, the Prime Minister said, "At a time when the world is going through uncertainty, let us take a pledge to sell only Swadeshi goods from our shops and markets. Promoting made in India goods will be the truest service to the country." With the festival and wedding seasons approaching, the prime minister encouraged people to ensure that all new purchases are made in India. He recalled how many citizens who were planning to hold wedding events abroad shifted them to India after his earlier appeal. "The feeling of Swadeshi in every action will define our future. This will also be a true tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Only through collective effort can we fulfil the dream of a developed India," Modi said. The prime minister was addressing a massive public gathering on Saturday in Banauli village, Sevapuri, Varanasi. During his one-day visit to the city, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 52 projects worth around Rs 2,200 crore. He also transferred Rs 20,500 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.70 crore farmers under the 20th installment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme. A short film showcasing the success and impact of the scheme on farmers was also screened during the event. The PM highlighted the government's farmer-centric policies in detail. He said the government is constantly working for the well-being of farmers. Under previous governments, promises made in the name of farmers were rarely fulfilled, but the BJP government delivers what it promises, he said. He cited the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi as proof of the government's firm commitment and recalled how opposition parties like the Samajwadi Party and Congress had spread rumours in 2019, claiming the scheme would stop after elections or the money would be taken back. "Has a single installment stopped over the years? The PM-KISAN scheme is running without any break," he said. Presenting data, he shared that nearly Rs 3.75 lakh crore has been transferred directly to farmers' accounts so far. In Uttar Pradesh alone, 2.5 crore farmers have received over Rs 90,000 crore, while farmers from Kashi have got Rs 900 crore. Modi emphasised the transparency of the scheme, saying there are no cuts, commissions or middlemen. "We have created a permanent system where there's no leakage and no one can steal the rights of the poor," he added. Referring to his development mantra, "the more backward someone is, the higher the priority", the PM spoke about the newly approved PM Dhan Dhanya Agriculture Scheme, which will focus on underdeveloped districts with lower crop production and income.
