Texas Longhorns QB commit, probable Arch Manning replacement, wins Day 1 MVP at Elite 11
Arch Manning's probable heir apparent is making a name for himself this week in Los Angeles. Texas Longhorns quarterback commit Dia Bell has shined at the Elite 11 Tuesday. Bell was named the MVP of Day 1 of the nation's premier quarterback camp.
Since 1999, the Elite 11 has launched several NFL careers, including Andrew Luck and Trevor Lawrence. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida five-star showed off his strong arm on Tuesday for scouts and fans at Mira Costa High School in LA. He displayed a quick release and confident motion that makes his throws look effortless.
Bell, who was named the Florida Gatorade Player of the Year, currently sits in first place at the event, after having the best day of all of the QBs in the camp. The son of former NBA shooting guard Raja Bell battled Tennessee commit Faizon Brandon throughout Day 1, but scouts felt Bell had better zip on his throws to go along with elite accuracy.
"Throughout the night, the most consistent for my money was Bell. He rarely missed a throw and looked smooth in his footwork and delivery snap after snap after snap. He also showed off an even more elite arm talent than we initially anticipated, and constantly placed the ball in the right windows with impressive zip and accuracy." - Matt Galatzan of SI
The hype around the future Texas QB continues to grow. Bell is the No. 2 ranked QB in the 2026 recruiting class according to On3's Industry Composite Rankings.
The five-star prospect wowed onlookers with fluid mechanics and pinpoint accuracy. His ability to deliver precise throws across all levels of the field, particularly near the goal line, left scouts and analysts impressed.
"Texas commit (Dia Bell) was outstanding all night, threw beautiful passes to every level of the field and spun it as well as anyone. As the night wore on, Bell's arm didn't tire at all, he kept great pace on all his passes and looked like a five-star contender. Whether it was during a station near the goal line or throwing the deep ball to the outside, Bell was on the money on almost every throw and looked really comfortable doing it." - Adam Gorney of Rivals.com
During his junior year at American Heritage High School, the 6-foot-2 QB threw for 2,597 yards and 29 touchdowns, completing 70.6% of his passes. While his production was impressive, his smooth mechanics and feel for the game have evaluators believing Bell might be the most complete quarterback in the class.
'Dia Bell hasn't played a whole lot of football. But when he has been playing, Raja Bell's kid has been absolutely throwing darts. Can he do it? I mean, this is a guy that people compare to Jordan Love - Green Bay Packers' Jordan Love, not necessarily Utah State Jordan Love.' - RJ Young on Adapt & Respond podcast
Bell's season was cut short due to a serious leg injury during Florida's state playoffs, where he had to be carted off the field. But his performance at Elite 11 should put to rest any fears that the injury would impact Bell's longterm outlook.
'The Elite 11 is a huge thing for quarterbacks, so it is an honor for me to be in the Finals this week. I have been going to camps since I was in middle school, trying to get my name out there and being in this event was always a goal for me. Being invited and being able to compete means a lot. You want to be a top guy, and this is where you show it.' - Bell told On3's Chad Simmons
Day 2 will feature a simulated pro day that will have each quarterback going through the same 20-throw script.

Micah Parsons contract dispute timeline: Why Cowboys star's frustration boiled over after failed offseason negotiations

Micah Parsons was apparently gearing up for his "Last Dance" season with the Dallas Cowboys when he tweeted a "one last time" GIF on Thursday. Parsons tweeted out the image while responding to a photo of him with Trevon Diggs at team training camp. In doing so, Parsons seemed to imply this will be the last season he and Diggs will be teammates on the Cowboys. Sure enough, Parsons released a statement on Friday saying he has requested a trade from Dallas. It was a culmination of a tense back-and-forth between Parsons and the organization that stretches back to the 2023 offseason, when Parsons said he first got in touch with the team about an extension. Things escalated this offseason, eventually leading to Parsons' trade request. How, exactly, did things reach this point? Here's a rough timeline of Parsons' failed negotiations with the Cowboys. Before 2024 season: Micah Parsons reaches out about extension In Friday's statement, Parsons said contract negotiations stretched back to before the 2024 NFL season. He said that was the first time his agent reached out to the team about a new deal for the star pass rusher. At the time, the Cowboys reportedly told Parsons they didn't want to start contract talks at that point. Parsons said he was fine with that decision and turned his focus to the 2024 season. Parsons was limited to 13 games in 2024 due to an ankle injury, but turned in another excellent season. He racked up 12 sacks and 23 quarterback hits despite missing time. That performance earned Parsons his four-straight trip to the Pro Bowl. After 2024 season: Micah Parsons reaches out to Cowboys again At the end of the 2024 NFL season, Parsons said he told his agent to reach out to the Cowboys to negotiate a new contract. Parsons' agent advised Parsons to wait until other defensive stars signed new contracts, as that would likely raise his asking price. Parsons said he knew he would leave money on the table, but told his agent to reach out to the team anyway. Parsons claimed the team did not respond to his agent's requests at the time. March 2025: Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons meet With the contract situation still unresolved, Parsons met with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to "talk about leadership," per Parsons. During that meeting, Jones reportedly started talking to Parsons about a new contract. Parsons said he engaged in that conversation, and let Jones know what he was seeking in a new deal. Parsons said he did not consider that meeting "a formal negotiation." At the end of that meeting, Parsons reportedly said his agent would reach out to "get things done." When Parsons' agent got in touch with the team, it did not respond. April 2025: Micah Parsons shows up to voluntary workouts Parsons surprised some when he showed up to voluntary workouts in April. At the time, Parsons explained he felt it was important to support new head coach Brian Schottenheimer and to be a leader for the rest of the club. June 2025: Micah Parsons says he'll report to training camp Months after his meeting with Jones, Parsons still did not have a deal with the Cowboys. When asked about the situation, Parsons said he planned to report to training camp even if both sides couldn't agree on a contract before then. He put the pressure on Jones to get it done, saying, "It's in the owner's hands." A few days later, Parsons let some frustrations show, telling reporter Clarence Hill Jr. that the Cowboys were costing themselves money by waiting to sign Parsons to a new deal. A number of star defensive players inked new contracts over the offseason, raising the bar for what Parsons could demand in negotiations. By June, both Maxx Crosby and Myles Garrett had already signed new deals that made them the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Pittsburgh Steelers standout T.J. Watt had not signed a new deal yet, but was almost certain to reset the market with a record-breaking contract once both sides reached an agreement. July 2025: Parsons reports, both sides 'further away' from a deal As predicted, Watt signed a three-year, $123 million extension with the Steelers, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL and setting the bar even higher for Parsons' next contract. Parsons reported to team training camp at the end of July. He opted to sit out of practices, citing a back injury. When asked about his contract situation, Parsons said his agent contacted the team and was waiting to hear back. At the time, Parsons also told reporters, "I want to be here. At the end of the day, they sign the checks. Let's see if they want me to be here.' The situation really took a turn for the worst at the end of July, when ESPN's Adam Schefter claimed negotiations between Parsons and the Cowboys were "further away" than expected. Schefter said both sides had "gone backwards, not forward" and added that negotiations didn't seem to be happening at that time. Aug 2025: Micah Parsons requests a trade from Cowboys Just days after Schefter's report, things reached a boiling point. Parsons posted a GIF implying it was his final season in Dallas and then officially requested a trade a day later. In between those two events, at least two Cowboys defenders changed their social-media avatars to include pictures featuring Parsons, a sign of solidarity between the players. CeeDee Lamb, who went through his own round of contract negotiations with the team last offseason, also showed support for Parsons on Friday, telling the Cowboys to "just pay the man." Where does Micah Parsons go from here? Despite Parsons' trade request, the Cowboys reportedly have no intention of dealing Parsons, according to Diana Russini of The Athletic. Parsons has the track record to justify a record-breaking new contract. He's made the Pro Bowl in each of his first four seasons and is a two-time first-team All-Pro. While he's never won the Defensive Player of the Year award, Parsons has finished in the top three for the honor three times. Whether that deal comes with the Cowboys is now a major question. While it's possible cooler heads prevail and the situation is salvaged, Friday marked an ugly point in the relationship, one that could lead to Parsons playing for a new franchise next season.

Dallas Cowboys players show support for Micah Parsons amid star's trade request

Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons publicly requested a trade, on Friday and voiced frustrations with how the franchise has handled his contract negotiations. 'Unfortunately I no longer want to be here,' Parsons wrote in a post to his X account. 'I no long want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me.' Advertisement While Parsons may be at odds with the Cowboys' front office, the Dallas locker room has loudly shown it's with him, as several of his teammates took to social media to show support for the perennial Pro Bowler. Several players changed their profile pictures on X, formerly Twitter, to photos of Parsons in a show of support. #NewProfilePic — DeMarvion Overshown (@AGENT0__) August 1, 2025 #NewProfilePic — Juanyeh Thomas (@STG_Yeh1) August 1, 2025 Others like CeeDee Lamb bluntly called for Parsons to receive a new deal. 'Never fails dawg,' Lamb wrote in a post on X. 'Just pay the man what you owe em. No need for the extra curricular.' Lamb was in a similar situation prior to the 2024 season, as he held out of training camp while he negotiated his contract extension. Parsons has been present at Cowboys training camp but has not participated in drills or workouts. In his message posted on Friday, he said he offered to negotiate a contract earlier this year despite his agent advising him to wait until other players at his position got new deals with the hope of landing a larger sum, but that the Cowboys were not receptive. Since then, Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro edge rusher T.J. Watt signed a three-year, $123 million contract extension making him the NFL's highest-paid non-quarterback at $41 million per season. Parsons said shortly after Watt's deal was done that it was discouraging to see some many other players at his position land new contracts while he saw little progress being made on his own. 'When you go around the league and you see these other teams taking care of their best guys, T.J. got taken care of, Maxx (Crosby) got taken care of, Myles (Garrett) got taken care of, and he's got two years left on his deal. You see a lot of people in our league getting taken care of and you wish you had that same type of energy,' Parsons said in July.

Inside The Troubled Road To Micah Parson's Trade Request

After constant offseason rumblings of displeasure about his contract situation, Micah Parsons officially demanded a trade from the Dallas Cowboys via an online post on X. Parsons made it known at 1:16 central time in the form of a three-page iCloud notes segment posted to his X account. In it, he vividly described how he wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy but that the relationship fractured due to closed door negotiations without his agent David Mulugheta present and narratives created and spread to the media. According to Parsons, he reached out to the Dallas Cowboys about getting a deal done following his third season with the team. Dallas refused to do so, but Parsons obliged and decided to focus on the upcoming 2024 season. Last season, Parson posted his third consecutive double-digit sack season at 12.o despite missing four games due to a Grade Three high ankle sprain. It was the first time the four-year pro ever missed NFL time due to an injury. Following that campaign, Parsons recalled telling his agent David Mulugheta again about reopening contract negotiations with the Cowboys. Mulugheta advised him to wait for other fellow pass-rushers to reset the market first with their paydays before his client pursued his, but Parsons refused. The Penn State standout only wished to secure a lengthy deal with the team that drafted him as soon as possible. 'I knew I would be leaving money on the table, but again I was okay with that,' Micah stated. Parsons advances were met with organizational silence by the Cowboys front office. It wasn't until March when the four-time Pro Bowler met with Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones to have a conversation about leadership that contract talks officially began between he and the Dallas front office. 'Yes I engaged in a back and forth in regard to what I wanted from my contract, but at no point did I believe this was supposed to be a formal negotiation,' Parsons stated. 'I informed Mr. Jones afterward my agent would reach out thinking things would get done, but when my agent reached out and spoke to Adam, he was told that a deal was pretty much done.' Adam is Adam Prasifka, the senior director of salary cap/player contracts for the Dallas Cowboys. According to Parsons, his agent went to the team's money man to get the ball rolling on an extension just for Prasifka to say a deal was already being finalized. 'My agent of course told him that was not the case and also reached out to Stephen Jones,' Parsons said. 'Again, the team decided to go silent.' Dallas's best defender decided to put the ball back in the Cowboys front office's court to initiate negotiations with him and Mulugheta. According to Parsons, not a call, text or email was sent to his agent. 'Up to today, the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract,' Parsons said. 'Not one demand has been made by my agent about money years or anything else. Still, I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys.' While Parsons made the trade demand public to the entire sports world, he himself stated that he submitted his formal trade request personally to Stephen Jones. During the 'Opening Day Ceremony' at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, California, Dallas fans erupted with chants saying 'Pay Micah' as their team's best player was left without a deal. Team owner Jerry Jones was in attendance and was asked by ESPN to comment on the anxious declarations made by his organization's fanbase. "I heard it light, but not compared to how I heard them say, 'Pay Lamb (last year),'" Jones told ESPN, comparing the Parsons situation to CeeDee Lamb's extension last offseason. "That was a faint little sound compared to the way they were hollering last year, 'Pay Lamb.' Whoever's not in, you can count on a few hollering that. But it was a big loud chant last year on Lamb." Last season, wideout Ceedee Lamb received a four-year $136 million contract following his league-leading reception campaign in 2023. This was also around the time Parsons voiced to Jones he was open to wait on his deal while ownership figured out payments for Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott. Time has passed since then and Parsons has voiced his desires for an extension that starts at 40 million-plus annually. However, Jerry Jones has made various comments since the spring that he wants to pay Parsons on his own desired terms. There was Jones dismissing Mulugheta's presence at the negotiating table and advocating to just speak to Parsons on a owner-player type setting. He also voiced the importance of staying healthy in order to desire a long-term deal which was a direct shot at Parsons' recently injured-marred campaign. "Contracts are four, five years, OK? There's a lot of water under the bridge if you step out there and do something in the first two or three," Jones said in early July. "You can get hit by a car, seriously. So there's a lot to look at over a lot of years that could make a big difference. Have you ever heard of any clubs committing to players and then they didn't pan out after they committed to them? We have." Through four seasons, Parsons has posted 52.5 sacks, 9 forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries as a member of the Cowboys. In the process, he's collected three All-Pro nods and a Defensive Rookie of the Year for his career endeavors.
