Depleted England clinical against the Pumas in La Plata
Argentina beat the Lions 28-24 in Dublin two weeks ago for the first time and left most of the team intact for its first test at home this year.
But Argentina's failure to score any points in a first half it dominated came back to bite it as England opened the new half by suddenly running the ball and scoring three tries in seven minutes.
The Pumas came back with two tries to forwards Pablo Matera — his 110th appearance tying Agustin Creevy's national caps record — and Pedro Rubiolo.
But that's all England allowed in an impressive show of depth and ruthless efficiency.
It even finished with a flourish. Replacement wing Cadan Murley scored the fourth try and co-captain George Ford, who became the eighth man to play 100 England tests, capped off a surprisingly emphatic win with 15 points and a try assist.

The second-year player has yet to attempt a pass at this level, but head coach Marcus Freeman fully believes that the grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr has what it takes to put points on the board for the Irish. Mark Schlabach broke down the pick noting that he'll have help in the backfield with running backs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price along with a 'good offensive line.' However, there will be more than a few things that Carr will need to do to be successful, as Schlabach points out 'he'll have to avoid turnovers and make good decisions while running the offense.' The same can be said about any quarterback across the country, but it's much more significant with the presumed first-time starter. While Carr has yet to officially be named the starter, many, including ESPN, believe that he will ultimately win the job. If Freeman didn't think he could handle the position, he surely would have brought in a transfer, but for the first time since 2022, Notre Dame will have a starting quarterback that began his career in South Bend. Hopefully Carr is the X-factor that guides the Irish to a return trip to the College Football Playoff and beyond.

The team went out and acquired Za'Darius Smith ahead of the trade deadline, but he has yet to re-sign this offseason and is still a free agent. Adding more depth is still a need for the Lions. Keeping that in mind, they have been connected as a top potential suitor for an eight-time Pro Bowl pass rusher late in free agency. That player is none other than former Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills star Von Miller. CBS Sports analyst John Breech made the potential connection between Detroit and Miller. "If you take one look at the Lions' schedule, you'll see why adding Miller might help. During the 2025 season, Detroit will be facing Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Jordan Love, Jalen Hurts, Matthew Stafford and Dak Prescott. If you're facing a gauntlet like that, you need pass rushers," Breech wrote. "The Lions do have Aidan Hutchinson, but they don't have much outside of that. Last season, the Lions pass rush absolutely disappeared after Hutchinson suffered a season-ending injury that saw him break his tibia and fibula. This year, Hutchinson will be coming back from that brutal injury so the Lions could certainly use some help just in case he's not quite 100% right away." Instead, he would be able to come in and focus on pass rushing downs. During the 2024 NFL season with the Bills, Miller played in 13 games. He racked up 17 tackles and six sacks. While he may no longer be the elite superstar that he once was, Miller is still capable of making an impact. The Lions may not have interest in him, but he would be a good addition on a one-year deal to provide depth and pass rushing ability. Notre Dame's Aamil Wagner chosen as a nominee for the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
There have been numerous instances during this offseason alone in which Notre Dame football players have given back to the community, and now one particular player is being recognized for his efforts. Junior offensive lineman Aamil Wagner has been chosen as a nominee for the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, an honor that recognizes one's commitment to community service and leadership off the field. The Ohio native is one of 197 nominees for the honor. The final list for the 2025 Good Works Team will be announced in September and will consist of 22 football student-athletes and one honorary head coach. In 2024, Fighting Irish linebacker Jack Kiser was selected to the Good Works Team, while Marcus Freeman was named the team's honorary head coach for their efforts in the community. On the field, Wagner has developed into an anchor on the offensive line at right tackle and will continue to be a key piece to a team looking to return to the College Football Playoff.
