‘Sh*thole': American expat delivers brutal verdict on major Aussie city
Drew Mork, a 26-year-old personal trainer and fitness enthusiast, has been living in Melbourne for just seven months – but says the city hasn't lived up to his expectations.
'I wanted to love Melbourne so bad but I'll be honest – it's a sh*thole,' Mork said in a recent social media post.
'A city is only as good as its people and the Melbournians are bitter. No one wants to be happy, it's exhausting,' he added.
He went on to describe the average mood in the city, wondering if there was something in the air that made people so unhappy.
'I feel like I'm constantly walking on egg shells – everyone can snap at any second.'
'It's definitely the most easily offended city I've ever been in,' he said.
But it's not all bad reviews for the rest of us.
'When I visited Sydney, everyone was so happy and smiling,' Mork said.
'People in Sydney are just happy to be there.'
Surprisingly, most Melbourne residents weren't feeling up to defending their city in the comment section.
'As someone from Melbourne I can agree to this,' said one viewer.
'I have to agree about the bitterness from experience,' said another.
'As a Melbournian you're not wrong,' said a third.
Undoubtedly chuffed Sydneysiders were more than happy to chime in, praising their 'attractive' city.
'Sydney is the best city on earth!' wrote one proud viewer.
'Come to Sydney, don't waste any time there,' suggested another.
'I've lived in both cities and Sydneysiders are way nicer,' said a third.
Despite Mork's less-than-glowing review, Melbourne continues to attract international praise – and plenty of new residents.
Just this year, it was ranked the fourth most liveable city in the world, beating out Sydney, which came in sixth.
The city is known for its world-class coffee, buzzing night-life, and its sport calendar.
Don't be too down, Melbournians. At least you have Revs.

The pair have quickly settled into the community, with the couple agreeing Alma Park 'the best dog park in Melbourne. 'It's just five minutes from home we also take regular visits to our local favourite The Wall on Carlisle Street for coffee,' Ellie said. 'Darcy's away a lot with football and I've never felt unsafe here. And with Melbourne tipped for a market upswing in the coming years, she expects St Kilda East's time could be soon. 'When Prahran and Armadale get to that point where buyers are priced out, they'll come here,' Ellie said. 'We're a long way off upsizing, but I know when the market catches on, this will be the perfect springboard for our next property.'

Commuters warned of peak hour delays as backlog of Sydney trains with uncertain wait times after track signal repairs
Sydney commuters have been hit with another public transport dilemma after being advised to seek alternative transport arrangements ahead of peak hour this afternoon. Transport for NSW said passengers should allow extra time on the T2 Inner West, T3 Liverpool and T8 Airport and South lines due to urgent repairs required between Town Hall and Central stations. Trains earlier today came to a halt at around 10am as a result of the issues with track signals at Town Hall, which saw services backed up all the way to Ashfield. Some services left passengers stranded on the track for close to an hour before being resolved just before midday. However, a Transport for NSW spokesperson said customers this evening are set to feel the residual effect of the delay with services confirmed to be pushed back in a backlog with unknown wait times. Some services have also been cancelled or adjusted to limited stops. 'Buses have been requested to supplement trains on the T8 Airport & South Line between Central, Domestic Airport and International Airport, as well as between Campbelltown and Macarthur,' the spokesperson said. Passengers have also been advised to check ongoing information and listen to announcements before boarding any services. The delay comes the same day as Minister for Transport John Graham celebrated one year of the Metro train service from Sydenham station, a transport service that has gained in popularity since the extension to the line was opened.
