Kuching City off to flying start with big win over TRW

KUCHING: Kuching City FC's 4-0 victory over Kelantan The Real Warriors (TRW) in their opening Super League match last night not only secured three valuable points, but also served as an early morale booster for Aidil Sharin Sahak's squad to face the challenges ahead.
Kuching City FC assistant head coach Firdaus Morshidi, however, acknowledged that the triumph at the Sarawak Stadium did not mean the team could rest on their laurels, as there were still many aspects to improve on, given that several players were new and still adapting to the team's style of play.
"Overall, they played well. On the field they gave 100 per cent, as they did in training before this match.
"This win was indeed part of our plan to give the squad a positive momentum," he said at the post-match press conference.
Commenting on preparations for their next match, Firdaus said the team's focus is now on the FA Cup clash against Brunei DPMM on Aug 16, before returning to Super League action against Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) on Aug 24.
"We will take it step by step... Next, we focus on the FA Cup first, then meet JDT. Changes to the starting line-up for the next match will depend on the players' fitness and injury status," he said.
He also expressed optimism that the Cats could go far in the FA Cup and Malaysia Cup if they maintain their performance momentum.
"God willing, if we can go further, all the better. If we reach the final, Alhamdulillah. The target remains to win," he said.
In last night's match, Wanja Ronald Ngah scored twice in the sixth and 71st minutes, while Joao Pedro (17th minute) and Ramadhan Saifullah (injury time) sealed a stylish victory for the Cats over Elavarasan Elangowan's squad. — BERNAMA
