George And Mildred star Norman Eshley has died at the age of 80, his agent said.

The actor and writer, who had been living with cancer, died on August 2 at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with his wife Rachel Eshley by his side, his agent Thomas Bowington told the PA news agency.

Mr Bowington said: 'It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of our client actor Norman Eshley.

'A warm, kind and grounded man with a great voice that I will miss not hearing over the phone again.'
His wife Rachel said: 'Although our time together wasn't long enough I will be forever grateful for the wonderful times we shared. He was my husband and best friend and my heart will always be with him.'

Eshley was educated at Bristol Grammar School and completed his training as an actor at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
Born in Bristol on May 30 1945, Eshley began his career in Shakespearian plays, later performing in West End productions.
He made his film debut in Orson Welles 1968 drama The Immortal Story and featured in TV shows including Canterbury Tales, an adaptation of Chaucer's famous stories, and Warship, which followed life in the Royal Navy aboard fictional ship HMS Hero.

He became most known, however, for playing snobbish neighbour Jeffrey Fourmile in the popular ITV sitcom George And Mildred, starring opposite Brian Murphy and Yootha Joyce.
The show was a spin-off of Man About The House, which he also appeared in as two different characters.
In later years, he turned his hand to writing and co-authored a sequel to Charles Dickens classic Oliver Twist, called The Dreamtime Of The Artful Dodger, which re-imagined the life of the character after his transportation to Australia.

But unbeknownst to Celebrity Big Brother star, the man ended up being jailed, with Donna spotting his picture in the newspaper. Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Donna opened up about her dating past, saying: "Mine is a disaster, I don't think I've had a nice date. "I've been in two long-term relationships and when I got out of that I went on a date and they ended up being a murderer. "A real life murderer! "He's in jail though, so that's nice. "It's been quite tricky, so it's nice to put my life in the agents hands and ask them to get me some dates. Discussing her biggest red flags since the nightmare date, Donna said: "I'm aware of red flags and aware of boundaries and not giving the benefit of the doubt too much. "My biggest red flag is to ask if they're a murderer!" Donna admitted there were times during the agency where she made an early escape after failing to hit it off with her match. Watch shock moment Mickey Rourke 'weight shames' Donna Preston just hours after formal warning over homophobic slur Donna said: 'There's me trying to find my perfect person and who knows. I always say don't put all your eggs in one basket. "I always believe we shouldn't waste anyone's time, if we're not feeling it we should just go because there's a pile of washing up to do at home. "Yeah there were moments I did leave. "We're not always going to connect with everyone." While Donna also admitted she wanted all the free therapy she could get at the celebrity agency. She told us: "It's a really quiet place in there and it's quite intimate as well. Ultimately we want to get things from the agents, it's not just a job, they're professionals, so for me I wanted to get as much as I can because they're very expensive on the outside world." The Sun revealed in May that Donna was a late signing to the new series of E4's Celebs Go Dating. Donna will appear alongside The Chase's Mark Labbett, S Club 7's Jon Lee, Love Island's Olivia Hawkins, Sam Prince from Made In Chelsea and Too Hot To Handle's Louis Russell. She completes the line-up following the exit of Christine McGuinness, who, after a few days, realised she wasn't yet ready to date in the public eye. Donna said: 'I'm buzzing to be joining the show and to finally crack the code on what men really want, besides snacks and not being asked what they're thinking. 'I'm intrigued to meet new people, but let's be honest, if a date's boring, I won't waste anyone's time. "Life's too short to sit through tales of someone's coin collection, I'll be gone before the starter arrives.' The Apocalypse Wow host was previously tipped to take part in the E4 dating show before joining Celebrity Big Brother last month. An insider told me at the time: 'Donna was toying with dipping her toe in the dating pool on TV and had been in talks with bosses on the E4 show, but then she was also offered CBB. 'She felt it was the better career move.'

Katie Price reaches out to ex Peter Andre after years of not speaking as she vows to heal ‘rift' over Princess

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) KATIE Price has held out an olive branch to ex husband Peter Andre as she vows to heal the "rift" over their daughter Princess. All this week, viewers have been watching the rising star find her own path in the world of showbiz in her reality show, The Princess Diaries. But Katie has now insisted that she's a "bloody good mum" to her five children and wants to sit down with Pete to discuss their issues once and for all. The TV personality said on the latest episode of her Katie Price Show podcast: "There's no reason why both parents just can't be there to support her. Now this isn't about me. I have to clarify this. "I don't care that I'm not in Princess's show. "I don't need to raise my profile by being on Princess's show, I do enough stuff. "All what I want to do, is just whatever my daughter does, and it's the same with Junior, I don't care if I'm in the background, but I want to watch her do her photo shoots, I wanna watch her do her signings, because that's what I did. "And my mom and you and Nan used to come along and support, and I'm proud of her. "And I just wanna be there with her because I now I feel that I've missed out on so much." Katie said she believes that she and Pete needs to come to hash things out to make life easier for their two kids - Princess and Junior, 20. "It's so not fair to bring princess piggy in the middle. So I think it's about time all of us adults just sit down and talk about what their beef is with me and just get over it," Katie said. Princess Andre snubs mum Katie Price from intimate dinner as she reveals her birthday party guestlist "Life would be more at peace because I don't have a problem. "I just think life would be a better place. "Well, I'm not saying we all have to be best buddies, best friends, but come on. "For the sake of the children, there's room for everyone to support your kids. "Do you know what I mean? I'm not saying I have to stand with them and play happy families." Katie's suggestion of a meet-up comes after the star admitted she's feeling left out of certain parts of her children's life. She continued: "Like, I've missed out so much with Princess. "I haven't watched the show, but, people have told me how proud I should be of the kids and how they Princess does talk highly of me all the way through it so although I'm not in the show she speaks about me all the time which is really sweet but why wouldn't she because she lives with me and this is another thing I need to clear up, the kids have never lived just with Pete, we've shared the kids. "I am a bloody good mum. People can even see that with Harvey. "Like, I am a good mum and it's so much easier, I have found out, when you have a child on your own without the other half involved because I've never had a problem with Harvey. "It's just been me, the family, and Harvey. And I hate it that when people split up, it always gets messy and the kids shouldn't be used." Katie concluded: "But I am absolutely proud of of Princess. Me and Princess are so, so close. "We've never ever ever had an argument till this day, and we still text and ring each other every day." It was previously reported that there was a big fall out after Katie wasn't allowed to go to Princess' 18th birthday party, hosted by her ex, and her daughter's dad, Peter. In part one of the fourth episode of The Princess Diaries, Princess was asked by her famous father who she wanted at her party - and it appeared to not include Katie. Princess turned 18 back in June, and at the time Katie claimed she wasn't invited because she had been banned from appearing in The Princess Diaries. Speaking on her The Katie Price Show podcast at the time, she said: "Everyone knows she's doing this documentary - and I'm not in it. "Certain people don't think it's good for Princess to be seen with me. Certain people that used to look after me." Her sister Sophie chipped in: "You aren't on brand Katie. You are too risky Katie that's why." Katie then said: "It's pathetic. I'm her mother. "I'm just saying, Princess was like 'I'm having a party'. And I wasn't invited because it was for 'filming.'" Sophie added: "Oh of course it was! I wonder what restaurant did that for free." Continuing the rant, Katie said: "The fact is there's stuff my daughter is doing and I'm not allowed to be seen at any of it." The Sun revealed how the documentary has caused a huge rift between Princess and her famous mum. Katie previously vented about those working with her daughter after The Sun revealed her secret heartache about being cut out of her TV show. She even vowed not to watch her daughter's reality show, after feeling left out of such an important thing in Princess' life. Earlier this week, Katie shared a cryptic message saying "your mum is not your enemy". Sharing a quote on her Instagram stories, Katie urged that as a mum she is "not trying to control" but instead "trying to protect" The quote also acknowledged how she "may not be perfect" but is "the only woman in this world" who wants the best for her children.

Netflix has Harry & Meghan over a barrel – it's talk about royals & divorce or get NOTHING, claims expert

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry have extended their Netflix deal - but bosses are hoping they will have some 'juicy royal tea to spill', according to experts. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have signed a new "multi-year, first look deal for film and television projects" with Netflix, the couple has announced. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 5 Meghan and Harry's Netflix deal has been extended Credit: Getty 5 Netflix viewers will get a second season of With Love, Meghan, plus a Christmas special Credit: JAKE ROSENBERG/NETFLIX However, speaking on this week's The Sun's Royal Exclusive show, broadcaster and journalist Esther Craichu said the Sussexes' deal is simply a 'retainer'. She claimed: 'It's a retainer in case they [Meghan and Harry] decide to accidentally do something entertaining again. 'That's basically it. So there's no commitment. 'They've put no money behind this. It's basically the right to first refusal. 'So if they come up with something that doesn't have to do with their whole kind of sermonising about how to save the world, then Netflix might be like, yes. 'I mean, to be brutally honest, what they've done is they've said, 'unless you have some juicy tea to spill on the royal family, or you get divorced and want to give us a documentary, probably not.' 'But if they have something juicy to say about the royal family, like the king sent me a potted plant, which turned out to be poison ivy, or that 'H my fox' just didn't hold me the way I wanted to, and so we've had to consciously uncouple, then maybe. 'That's basically it.' Esther claimed that the deal is the 'best of both worlds' and claims Netflix has been "clever in that sense.' She added: 'These people [the Sussexes] are a household name. They're annoying, but they're a household name. Harry & Meghan were 'not in a strong position' & signed Netflix deal for 'much less'… TV giant 'did it for publicity' 'If they do anything interesting, we have to be first in the queue, because it would be a blockbuster. 'Everyone would be covering it. It'd be a huge media storm. But at the moment, given their track record, absolutely not. 'We're not committing five quid to this.' Five years ago, Harry and Meghan secured a lucrative contract, thought to be worth more than 100 million dollars (£74million), with Netflix after quitting as senior working royals in 2020. It is not yet known how much the new extended deal will bring in for the couple, or how long it will last. 5 The couple has signed a new 'multi-year, first look deal for film and television projects' with Netflix Credit: Netflix IDEAL OUTCOME? royal reporter Bronte Coyne said the new deal is the 'ideal outcome for both parties.' She explained: 'We've talked about what was going to be next for Harry and Meghan in their Netflix business arm for a long time now, because we knew that this five-year deal was going to expire this year. 'What was going to be the ideal outcome? 'OK, they're not going to sign a deal anything like the one that was signed in 2020, because they don't really exist anymore. 'The landscape has changed completely for TV, but streaming services in particular. If they [Meghan and Harry] do anything interesting, we [Netflix] have to be first in the queue, because it would be a blockbuster Esther Craichu 'So it did seem likely that there would either be a downgraded deal or an expiration of the deal. 'Now, the fact that both parties can say we've reached a new agreement, it was never going to be what it was before, but it is a new agreement. 'I think that an argument could be made on either side that it's a PR win, because the deal wasn't cancelled, as had been speculated for some time. 'It's a first-look deal.' NEW RELEASES 5 Experts have claimed that Netflix is hoping the couple will reveal more 'juicy royal secrets' Credit: PA Announcing the deal, Meghan said in a statement: 'We're proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As Ever brand. "My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.' On top of Season 2 of With Love, Meghan - which will drop later this month - they will also do a "Holiday Celebration" Christmas special this December. "Join Meghan in Montecito for a magical holiday celebration," the announcement reads. "Together, friends and family deck the halls, create holiday feasts, craft heartfelt gifts, and share lots of laughs – with simple how-tos to follow at home. It's a holiday wonder with warmth, tradition, and a generous dose of joy." There will also be a short film called "Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within". SUSSEX NETFLIX HISTORY It was previously thought that the Sussexes' £74million deal with the streamer was not going to be renewed. Harry's Polo series, about the sport, was watched by just 500,000 people. It was also understood that bosses were mildly infuriated by Meghan making her As Ever brand a priority. 5 Prince Harry's Polo series did not hit the top viewing spots Credit: Netflix Lifestyle and cookery show With Love, Meghan only ranked at number 383 in Netflix's six-monthly engagement report this year, with just 5.3million viewers across the globe. It was beaten by reruns of the first four seasons of legal drama Suits, which also starred the Duchess in her pre-royal days. Meghan was filmed for her show making ladybird-shaped canapes from cherry tomatoes and mozzarella balls. The show is a smash hit compared to her husband's docuseries Polo. In the first six months of the year the programme attracted 500,000 views globally, ranking it at number 3,442 out of around 7,000 shows.
