Netflix's latest addition is an epic fantasy drama series that has been captivating viewers with its blend of supernatural elements, enchanting magic, and a timeless love story set against the backdrop of high stakes.
Originally launched in 2018, the show enjoyed three seasons and is now finding a new legion of fans who are discovering its charms for the first time, reports Surrey Live.

The series has quickly climbed into Netflix's top 10 global shows, a testament to its "addictive" narrative that keeps audiences hooked.

Fans have taken to Rotten Tomatoes to express their thoughts on the series, with one viewer writing: "I'm not drawn to Witch stories generally, I lean toward Vampires.
'However, I took a chance on this and was drawn in by the great writing, acting and character development.

Product Description
'The series lets you know right away what the plot is centered around but the mystery around this unfolds throughout the entire movie offering up many unpredictable scenarios. I'm pleased the ending paid off, I hate an ending without an ending [sic].'
Another fan left a glowing five-star review, saying: "What the Twilight books wished it could've been, had it been well written with far better actors."

A third chimed in with: "While slowly paced and highly dependent upon relationship drama, this story almost feels like Twilight if the story was actually... good," and another agreed: "This is Twilight but with adults."
One more viewer shared their experience: "I stumbled across the first series recently and became absolutely absorbed in it and totally addicted!".

Another glowing five-star review read: "Love it. Read the books, once before seeing this series and again afterwards.
"The casting is great, the series differs from the books, but both work well and I look forward to the next season. Minor flaws.........overall a wonderful watching experience [sic]."
A Discovery of Witches, currently streaming on Netflix, is a captivating adaptation of Deborah Harkness' All Souls novel trilogy.

The series centres around historian and witch Diana Bishop (portrayed by Teresa Palmer), who discovers an ancient manuscript filled with secrets and spells about the magical world in Oxford University's Bodleian Library.
With the assistance of the mysterious vampire and biochemist Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode), Diana starts to unravel the mysteries of the ancient artefact.

Despite the historical tension between vampires and witches, Matthew and Diana form an uneasy alliance as they attempt to extract secrets from the manuscript.
Their quest for knowledge puts them in danger from other magical beings.
Adding to the intrigue is the forbidden love between Diana and Matthew, despite their different species. Their relationship could potentially spark a full-blown war.
However, the couple is determined to overcome any obstacle to be together.

Divisive horror movie full of 'grotesque monsters' now streaming on BBC iPlayer

If you fancy making your weekend a gruesome one, look no further than a 'grotesque' horror movie from 2019 that's been added to BBC iPlayer. Directed by Andre Ovredal and co-written by Guillermo Del Toro, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was released in 2019 and became a box office success. Made on a budget of $25million (£18.5m), it performed better than expectations on its opening weekend six years ago and made back $104.5m (£77m) in total. Starring Zoe Colletti and Michael Garza, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is based on the book series of the same name, written by Alvin Schwartz, who died in 1992. The film follows the story of Stella, Auggie, and Chuck, who visit a haunted house and find a book of horror stories written by a long-deceased author named Sarah Bellows. Bellows' stories soon come to life, and the scary monsters and creatures they contain emerge in the real world, putting Stella, Auggie, and Chuck in more danger than they realise. In 2019, critics watching the film in its early weeks after release were broadly positive, with its current Rotten Tomatoes rating sitting at 78%. Fans received Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark positively as well, with 72% of Rotten Tomatoes users saying they would give the film a score of 7.0 out of 10 or more. On X, user @Muesquehere said that the introduction in the film of the creature known as The Pale Lady was among the most disturbing scenes of any horror film. @English_Shamar said: 'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a really good movie to watch' when another user asked for the scariest horrors their followers had seen before. On Letterboxd, film critic Matt Singer said the movie was proof that 'it is possible to make a genuinely scary PG-13-rated horror movie'. User Tom Bowen also commented: 'The period setting is cool, all the kids are great performers, and I was surprised by just how creepy it was with some eerie designs and disturbing sequences.' Joining the cast of the 2019 film were Breaking Bad star Dean Norris, who played Hank Schrader, and Orange is the New Black actress Lorraine Toussaint, who played Yvonne in the Netflix series. The books upon which the film is based were released in 1981, 1984, and 1991 and were published shortly before author Schwartz's death at the age of just 64. More Trending In 1981, the first book was titled Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, while later editions were titled More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was famously illustrated by artist Stephen Gammell, whose drawings of 'grotesque monsters' became iconic among horror fans. As of 2017, the stories had sold a collective total of seven million copies and have appeared on numerous bestseller lists for children's and young adults' fiction. Unlikely UK TV star admits love of WWE ahead of tonight's Money in the Bank show

The wrestling brand has gained millions of new fans since its move to Netflix - including national treasure Stephen Fry who went to this year's WrestleMania with his husband Elliott Spencer Since WWE signed their multi-billion pound deal with Netflix, more British viewers have been watching wrestling than ever before. But potentially joining other fans in settling down to watch tonight's Money in the Bank, which sees John Cena take the next high profile step on his retirement tour as well as setting the agenda for the next few months of high-flying action, is an unlikely national treasure. High-brow star Stephen Fry explained he too has started watching WWE in an interview released this week. Chatting with Rylan on the BBC podcast How to Be in Love, Fry made rare comments about his life with his husband, comedian Elliott Spencer. The couple have an age gap of 30 years with Fry candidly saying that the difference meant he had been introduced to things he might not have experienced otherwise. Speaking of his husband, Fry said: "So much of what I love in music and literature and so on is not necessarily from this century. He teaches me things I just didn't know. He introduced me to Kendrick Lamar, which was a great thing to do because Kendrick Lamar, I've decided, is a great poetical spirit. "He also has a great affection for – and I guess you could call it ironic, but it's real – WWE. And I just don't know if I can reveal this extraordinary truth, but I bought a couple of tickets to WrestleMania in Las Vegas." Who knows if the famous pair will be settling down to watch tonight, but either way tonight's event, as the first Money in the Bank shown on Netflix, will have the biggest ever audience for the annual institution. The show starts at midnight in the UK and is the latest premium live event that Netflix subscribers, whether direct or who watch for free as part of their Sky TV bundles - can see without actually paying an extra penny. No matter what the final results are tonight, British fans can have a ringside seat on the drama that unfolds once the iconic briefcases have been won. WWE is holding a huge pay-per-view event in Paris in late August and the UK is hosting several 'Road to Clash in Paris' live shows in the run-up. As well as shows in Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds and Cardiff, Dublin's 3Arena will host the city's first ever Friday Night SmackDown. Meanwhile, Birmingham will host their first Monday Night Raw in almost a decade. Tickets are available for all shows via Ticketmaster here. Meanwhile fans who want to push the boat out can get VIP hospitality packages via Seat Unique with a host of perks including free food and drink and priority seating. WWE Money in the Bank 2025 final card and start time Unlike many of the other premium live events in WWE's calendar, Money in the Bank has relatively few matches as the two titular clashes for the iconic briefcases take centre stage. Confirmed for tonight at the show, which starts streaming on Netflix at 12 midnight UK time, are: The Men's Money In The Bank Ladder Match - Solo Sikoa vs LA Knight vs Penta vs Seth Rollins vs Andrade vs El Grande Americano Women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match - Alexa Bliss vs Roxanne Perez vs Rhea Ripley vs Giulia vs Naomi vs Stephanie Vaquer Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso vs John Cena & Logan Paul in a tag team match Lyra Valkyria vs Becky Lynch for the Women's Intercontinental Championship

'Exquisite' Amazon Prime show cancelled after only one series

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Amazon Prime Video have cancelled the TV series Étoile in spite of its impressive 85% fresh critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. Helmed by Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, Étoile had initially been greenlit by the streaming service for two seasons. Debuting in April this year, its story followed the directors of two rival ballet companies as they attempted to save their institutions from collapse. In a last-ditch effort to save these world-renowned institutions, they hatch a plan to switch leading ladies, swapping their most talented stars in an ambitious gambit. Starring Luke Kirby and Nymphomaniac star Charlotte Gainsbourg as the ballet companies' directors, it was released to strong word of mouth and favourable reception from viewers. However, that apparently hasn't been enough to save Étoile, which has reportedly been axed after only one series. Fans reacted to the news with dismay on social media, with many writing of their disappointment that another show had met its end so prematurely. 'Amazon keeps cancelling the few shows on Prime I enjoy. Such shame for Etoile,' wrote marsjfields. 'Amazon Prime u are DEAD to me (My Lady Jane, Wheel of Time and now Etoile?????)' said suvanias. 'Étoile on Amazon Prime Video is reportedly being cancelled according to Deadline. Hard to believe this is not a stunt to attract more viewership. The show is phenomenal. Heartbroken if true. Loved the show,' commented danpavacic. Those reacting with disappointment are in sync with its positive Rotten Tomatoes score – having garnered an 85% 'Fresh' approval rating from critics on the review aggregator. 'Étoile is one of the most perfect, and I don't use that term lightly, pilots I've ever seen,' wrote Neely Swanson of the Beverley Hills Courier. 'As ravishing as it feels radical,' said Joey Moser of The Contending. Contributing a 76% score, audiences were just as full of praise, with the user Madison J describing it as a 'fabulous show with exquisite talent, a great story line and gorgeous scenes.' In April, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino weighed in on whether the second series would come to pass, telling Variety: 'You'll have to ask Amazon.' 'It's pending,' agreed husband and co-creator Daniel. Sadly, it looks as though that second series never will come to pass, unless Amazon, for some reason,n decide to pirouette on their decision to axe. The ballet comedy-drama was the latest collaboration from Gilmore Girls duo Amy and Daniel, who subsequently worked together on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. More Trending Their most beloved hit ended in 2007 with a follow-up miniseries in 2016, but fans remain hopeful that the Gilmore girls might one day return. Last year, star Lauren Graham reunited with screen mum Kelly Bishop, giving fresh hope that Friday night dinners might one day resume service. Series creator Amy weighed in on the chances of another revival, telling Variety: 'It would be delightful. We love the actors, we love the world, we love writing those characters. The time just has to be right. It's alchemy.' View More » Series One of Étoile is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video. Got a story?
