FURIOUS locals have blasted brazen tourists who pitched a massive tent right by the roadside along the iconic NC500 route.
Dubbed Scotland's Route 66, the North Coast 500 attracts thousands of visitors each year, but locals say the tourism boom is fueling antisocial behaviour and overtourism.

Residents in Ross and Cromarty, in the Highlands, were left raging after spotting a giant family-size tunnel tent set up on a grassy verge at Lael Forest car park.
Pictures shared on social media show the tent directly behind a Forestry and Land Scotland sign which reads 'No overnight parking' and 'No fires'.
But locals claim a fresh fire pit was still smouldering on the grass when they snapped the shocking scene.
One outraged resident took to Facebook to slam the reckless campers, branding their actions "disgraceful".
Posting on the NC500 The Land Weeps page, they ranted: "This is the biggest tent I've ever seen on the roadside. At Lael Forest carpark this morning. Fresh fire pit still smouldering on the grass, which will leave a scar. Cans of Strongbow on the park bench."
Others flocked to the comments to slam the reckless behaviour.
One commenter wrote: "That's an utter disgrace. Hope you got registration and reported."
Another joked: "Hopefully the midgies and clegs are hungry."
A third added: "That's just ridiculous."
The NC500 has become a hotspot for tourists seeking stunning views and adventure, but locals are growing increasingly frustrated with visitors ignoring rules and leaving behind a trail of destruction.
'Absolutely disgusted', complain Nc500 locals as they blast BBC over Landward scene
We previously told how another Highlander was forced to erect a warning sign after campers repeatedly left piles of poo near his doorstep.
The "utterly disgusting" behaviour of some tourists, leaving "little toilet paper bonnets over human poop" just metres from his property, has pushed one resident in Strathy, Thurso, to his limit.
He resorted to lugging heavy rocks across a nearby campsite to deter vile visitors from defecating on it and even put up a sign politely asking people to bury their waste.
Meanwhile, other residents hit out at tourists who left a much-loved beauty spot in a shocking state.

Terrifying moment tourists scream as fighter jet performs nail-biting low passes and aerobatics over Spanish beach

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THIS is the terrifying moment tourists screamed in horror as a fighter jet skimmed frighteningly close to a packed Spanish beach. Shocking footage shows a Spanish Air Force EF-18 Hornet roaring over San Lorenzo Beach, its nose diving towards the sea before pulling up just metres from sunbathers. Holidaymakers lounging on the beach can be seen grabbing their phones to film the heart-stopping stunt, with several screaming in shock as the jet thundered overhead. In another clip, groups of spectators watching from a nearby hill can be heard raising their voices in alarm as the supersonic beast tore through the air. The hair-raising display took place during the nineteenth edition of the Gijón Air Festival, held on Sunday over San Lorenzo Bay in Asturias. Around 250,000 people flock to the annual event, which has been wowing crowds since 2006 and is considered one of Spain's biggest aeronautical spectacles. After its perilous near-miss, the fighter jet continued its flight away from the crowded shoreline, leaving shaken tourists staring in disbelief. But online, viewers were divided over whether the death-defying maneuver was intentional — or a risky slip-up. 'Very risky maneuver... is that allowed?' one user asked on TikTok. Another on Reddit suggested: 'For me it looked like he lost too much height during the roll and pulled up too hard, making him lose a lot of speed, unintentionally. 'Could be the perspective, too.' Shock moment beachgoers surrounded by smoke as raging wildfires in Italian hols hotspot Others, however, were left awestruck. One thrilled festival-goer declared: 'I witnessed that live and it was one of the best things I've seen in a long time.' It comes as terrified beachgoers in Sardinia were forced to flee when a raging wildfire tore across the popular Punta Molentis coastline. Holidaymakers dropped towels and sunbeds as smoke engulfed the golden sand, with flames creeping right up to the water's edge in the blistering 34C heat. More than 100 people had to be rescued by sea after escape routes were cut off, while firefighters battled the inferno with Canadair water bombers, helicopters and even an Italian Air Force aircraft. Cars parked by the shore were left reduced to twisted metal after the blaze ripped through a beach parking area, torching around 200 vehicles and a kiosk. Local media said a 'jewel' of the Sarrabus coast had been destroyed, with footage showing families scrambling to safety as thick plumes of grey and black smoke filled the sky. The Sardinia fire is the latest in a series of Mediterranean infernos, with Turkey enduring a deadly 50C heatwave that has already claimed four lives and forced 3,500 people to evacuate. Greece has also been ravaged, with wildfires sweeping villages near Athens and scorching parts of the Aegean islands after a week-long heatwave pushed temperatures beyond 45C. A blaze even tore through a northern suburb of Athens at the weekend, forcing panicked residents to flee their homes. 5 The combat aircraft was seen spewing puffs of black smoke Credit: X

The Glasgow to Budapest route replaced Edinburgh, launching in 2023. Holidaymakers will have to travel to the capital to fly to Budapest, with Ryanair offering direct flights. A Wizz Air spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Wizz Air will discontinue flights from Liverpool John Lennon and Glasgow International Airport to Budapest starting this Autumn. "Wizz Air continuously monitors the performance of its routes to allow for the most popular destinations to have the lowest possible fares." Wizz Air's Glasgow-Budapest route will end on October 25. It comes just weeks after the airline confirmed that all operations of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi would cease in September. The airline cited ongoing airspace closures and instability as the reason. Wizz Air CEO József Váradi said the airline would instead invest more in central and eastern Europe instead, calling it their "bread and butter". He added: "We have been underinvesting in this market over the last few years.
