Dubbed Scotland's Route 66, the North Coast 500 attracts thousands of visitors each year, but locals say the tourism boom is fueling antisocial behaviour and overtourism. Pictures shared on social media show the tent directly behind a Forestry and Land Scotland sign which reads 'No overnight parking' and 'No fires'. But locals claim a fresh fire pit was still smouldering on the grass when they snapped the shocking scene. One outraged resident took to Facebook to slam the reckless campers, branding their actions "disgraceful". Posting on the NC500 The Land Weeps page, they ranted: "This is the biggest tent I've ever seen on the roadside. At Lael Forest carpark this morning. Fresh fire pit still smouldering on the grass, which will leave a scar. Cans of Strongbow on the park bench." Others flocked to the comments to slam the reckless behaviour. One commenter wrote: "That's an utter disgrace. Hope you got registration and reported." Another joked: "Hopefully the midgies and clegs are hungry." A third added: "That's just ridiculous." The NC500 has become a hotspot for tourists seeking stunning views and adventure, but locals are growing increasingly frustrated with visitors ignoring rules and leaving behind a trail of destruction. 'Absolutely disgusted', complain Nc500 locals as they blast BBC over Landward scene We previously told how another Highlander was forced to erect a warning sign after campers repeatedly left piles of poo near his doorstep. The "utterly disgusting" behaviour of some tourists, leaving "little toilet paper bonnets over human poop" just metres from his property, has pushed one resident in Strathy, Thurso, to his limit. He resorted to lugging heavy rocks across a nearby campsite to deter vile visitors from defecating on it and even put up a sign politely asking people to bury their waste. Meanwhile, other residents hit out at tourists who left a much-loved beauty spot in a shocking state.

NC500 locals blast ‘entitled' campervan driver for ‘pathetic' parking attempt

LOCALS living on the North Coast 500 have blasted an "entitled" campervan driver for their "pathetic" parking attempt. Residents on the tourist route have often been left frustrated by motorhome visitors passing through. 2 Locals in Ullapool were left furious with the motorhome's parking Credit: FACEBOOK: NC500 The Land Weeps 2 Motorhomes are a real issue for locals on the popular route Credit: Getty The 516-mile route attracts thousands of tourists every year, but many still end up on the wrong side of people living there. There are constant rows erupting during tourist season about the behaviour of visitors - especially those in campervans. A common gripe is that the mobile homes are not being parked correctly along the Highland roads. And one incident of bad parking this week has left residents in Ullapool unimpressed. A large motorhome was spotted sitting stationary across four parking bays outside a shop on a road. And locals were furious because it meant that three other motors were stopped from using any of the spaces. Tell me you can't drive your hired motorhome without telling me you can't drive your hired motorhome Facebook comment Many slammed the driver after a photo of the motorhome was shared in the Facebook group NC500 The Land Weeps. The post was captioned: "Outstanding parking." At first, many tried to give the tourist the benefit of the doubt by pointing out that the large campervan would not fit in a single parking space. But others explained that a few meters down from where they stopped was a car park specifically for motorhomes with larger bays. Locals fury at NC500 pranksters Users quickly flocked to the comments to hit out at the driver, with one person saying: "Selfish prat." Another added: "Tell me you can't drive your hired motorhome without telling me you can't drive your hired motorhome." Someone else wrote: "Pathetic and selfish driving!!!" While a fourth simply posted: "Entitled!!" And a fifth chimed in: "Please don't make excuses for this selfish act, I see someone says a few yards away there's a car park for camper vans. Self entitled/do what they please yet again". It comes after councillors decided to move to impose an overnight ban on campervans using council car parks along the NC500 route earlier this year. The decision followed complaints from locals about waste dumping and anti-social behaviour. Highland Council's Sutherland County Committee unanimously agreed to recommend the ban at two key car parks where overnight stays are currently permitted. At present, these car parks, located in Durness and Golspie on the NC500 route, allow campervans to stay overnight for £10 per night. Visitors are currently restricted to a single night's stay and are prohibited from returning within 72 hours. While daytime parking would remain unaffected, the council's parking enforcement team would begin policing overnight stays.

‘Turn the sprinklers on' cry NC500 locals as camper blasted for ‘really rude' act

It follows constant rows about the behaviour of tourists embarking on the hugely popular 516-mile journey CAMPER FURY 'Turn the sprinklers on' cry NC500 locals as camper blasted for 'really rude' act A LOCAL living along the North Coast 500 route has hit out at a camper over their "really rude" behaviour. The furious Ullapool resident was left unimpressed after discovering a tourist had set up camp for the night beside someone's house and garden. 1 An image shared online shows a blue tent erected near someone's house Credit: NC500 The Land Weeps It follows constant rows about the behaviour of tourists embarking on the hugely popular 516-mile route. Taking to Facebook group NC500 The Land Weeps, the local wrote: "Camping by duck pond, right by someone's house/garden. Hanging clothes on someone's garden fence. "Top-notch campsite a few hundred meters away." Fellow locals flocked to the comments to react to the "rude and inconsiderate" behaviour. One fumed: "Turn the sprinklers or garden hose on the fence or go out and paint it and their clothes." Another said: "Disgusting and disrespectful. If I were that homeowner, I'd be playing very loud music at 2am." A third weighed in: "Above the law. 'Entitled' to do as they please." A fourth put: "How does anyone think this is ok! A fifth added: "Hope the property owner has had a word or two with them." A sixth blasted: "How did they even find their way down there? The tent must be pitched on the drive." Locals fury at NC500 pranksters Over the years, NC500 tourists have been accused of cramming car parks with motorhomes and overpopulating small areas, causing damage to the local environment. There are also concerns that the single-track roads "cannot cope" with the increasing volume of traffic. Meanwhile, a report revealed that cases of people doing their business in laybys and elsewhere has doubled in two years. The Highlands get more than six million visitors a year - including day-trippers, overseas travellers and cruise passengers. Fresh calls have recently been made for a tourist tax on campervans trailing along the route. Some NC500 residents are unhappy that the roads are clogged with campervans, and many have had to deal with tourists doing the toilet outside their homes. Meanwhile, Rangers in the Highlands have been forced to call in cops to deal with outbursts of extreme aggressive behaviour from visitors.
