Makeover of KGMU, Daliganj intersections to ease traffic
Lucknow: Commuters traversing through Daliganj trisection and Medical College Crossing will get relief from daily traffic snarls as LDA has initiated a remodelling project to ease congestion.
The redesign will focus on reducing the diameter of existing rotaries. The central islands and road dividers will be restructured, and traffic islands will be modified. In addition, road markings and signboards will be installed to guide motorists. The estimated cost of Daliganj Tiraha project is Rs 87 lakh and Rs 72 lakh for Medical College crossing. LDA VC Prathamesh Kumar on Wednesday conducted an on-site inspection and directed officials to complete the work by Sep.
Kumar said: "These junctions witness heavy peak-hour traffic, causing daily inconvenience. Surveys showed large rotaries were worsening flow. We're reducing their size and widening medians to improve circulation, cut wait times, and ensure smoother movement without affecting the area's heritage aesthetics."
He emphasised the importance of inter-departmental coordination between traffic, power, and surveillance departments to ensure timely shifting of traffic signals, electric poles and CCTV infrastructure.

NHAI will start issuing ATPs from Aug 15 NEW DELHI: The Centre will roll out an 'Annual Toll Pass' (ATP) for private car owners that will let you drive through toll plazas without having to stop and pay - either by cash or through FASTag - on national highways and expressways that are managed by NHAI (National Highways Authority of India). The pass does not replace FASTag but is a parallel system in which you make a one-time payment and accounting is done on the basis of trips you make, not the balance on your card. Only private cars will be eligible for ATPs, not taxis or any other commercial vehicle. When can you get an ATP? NHAI will start issuing ATPs from Aug 15. An ATP can be bought for Rs 3,000 and will be for a year from the date of purchase. Within this period, an ATP holder will be eligible for 200 trips on the NHAI network. Once the trip limit is breached, you can renew an ATP for a year. Alternatively, you can pay through FASTag. Buying an ATP won't be mandatory to drive on the NHAI network. Those who want to keep using FASTag can continue to do so. How does ATP define a trip? Crossing one toll plaza will count as one trip on an ATP. This is how ATP will work on an open tolling system, which is any highway other than access-controlled ones. For highways that have a closed tolling system, which means you pay only at point of exit, the journey will count as one trip. For example, on roads such as Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway or Eastern Peripheral Expressway, if you're travelling end to end, it's counted as one trip. However, if you exit midway and re-enter the road at another point, the trip count will increase to two. Do you save if you have an ATP? If you are a frequent inter-state traveller, an ATP will be cheaper. Similarly, ATP will work on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (NHAI) but not Mumbai-Pune expressway and Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg (state govt). Since no state toll plaza will read an ATP, you will continue to be charged through FASTag when you drive through these. How do you get an ATP? The Annual Toll Pass will be available for purchase through NHAI's Rajmargyatra mobile app and on its website. It will not be available for sale or activation through any other portal, third-party website, offline store, or bank websites. After verification of application, NHAI will issue a pass in two hours. ATP will not be a separate card or tag but will be linked to your existing FASTag. NHAI has advised users to avoid purchasing pass from unauthorised sources to prevent fraud. Applications for ATP will open mid-July. NHAI helpline1033 will also provide information on ATP and guide callers. To activate an ATP, an applicant will need to provide consent to Rajmargyatra app to retrieve the mobile number registered with the FASTag from the respective bank for sending SMS alerts and other related communications. Can you use an ATP on 2 cars? No. Just like FASTag, ATP will be valid only for the car for which it is issued. ATP will be non-transferable. Use on another vehicle will result in deactivation. Uttarakhand: Kedarnath Yatra witnesses 11.4 lakh pilgrims till June 18
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 18 (ANI): In the 48 days since the doors of Shri Kedarnath Yatra were opened, the number of devotees arriving for the pilgrimage as of Wednesday has crossed 11 lakh 40 thousand. The Kedarnath Yatra doors for the year 2025 were opened for devotees on May 2. According to an official release, local hotels, restaurants, traders, and small businesses like horse-mule, heli, and dandi-kandi services collectively did business of about three billion. The local traders, women self-help groups, taxi operators, and people associated with any kind of business are getting full benefits of the pilgrimage, it added. Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Ashish Rawat said, 'Till June 18, 2,27,614 pilgrims have reached for darshan through horses and mules, which has generated an income of Rs 66 crore 73 lakh 90 thousand 350.' He also mentioned that this year about 8,000 horses and mules are registered. Due to the infectious disease equine influenza virus, horse-mule operations were also affected for a few days. The heli services play a very important role in the Kedarnath Yatra, as they give devotees who are unable to walk to complete the Yatra an opportunity. This service also generates income. Emphasizing this, District Tourism Officer and Nodal Heli Service official Rahul Chaubey said that this year eight heli companies are operating from nine helipads. Till June 18, 49,247 devotees have reached Baba Kedarnath Dham through heli services, which has generated an income of about Rs 60 crore, he added. Chaubey also appealed to devotees to book heli services only through the official website of IRCTC. The operation of dandi-kandi, which is considered safer for small children, has also generated Rs 2 crore till June 18, the press release mentioned. This includes challans and fines of Rs 4,17,000 imposed on various establishments for spreading dirt and violating other rules, it added. Additional Chief Officer of District Panchayat Rudraprayag, Sanjay Kumar, also highlighted that more than 7,000 dandi-kandi operators are registered for this year's Yatra. Assistant Transport Officer of Rudraprayag, Kulwant Singh Chauhan, said that this year 225 vehicles are registered for shuttle service in the Shri Kedarnath Dham Yatra, the release mentioned.
