SCaT Fair 2025 a catalyst for future-ready Sarawak youth, says deputy minister
KUCHING (July 5): The Sarawak Career and Training (SCaT) Fair 2025 stands as a testament to the state government's commitment to youth development through a holistic and technology-driven approach, said State Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh.
Len, who is also Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas) chairman, said this year's edition not only brings together educational and career opportunities but also highlights emerging technologies and future-ready fields.
Among the key initiatives featured are the Sarawak Blockchain and Crypto Programme, which focuses on Web3 and the digital economy, and the 'CAN-SAT Roketeer Sarawak Challenge' – a rocket and satellite technology competition held in collaboration with UiTM-MTC, Centexs, and Sarawak Skills.
'The technological landscape is evolving rapidly. Sarawak must not be complacent or left behind.
'Our youth need access to knowledge, training and industrial support in order to remain competitive,' he said during the official opening today.
The fair also featured an open interview session organised by Social Security Organisation (Perkeso), offering a total of 1,561 job vacancies from over 40 employers across various sectors.
SCaT Fair 2025 was further enlivened by activities such as the Youth Icon Speaker's Corner, STEM Playground, skills workshops, the Sultan Iskandar Planetarium Dome experience, and exhibitions by higher learning institutions and training agencies.
To ensure rural communities are not left behind, Len announced that the 'Projek Impian Tercapai Roadshow Programme (Pro-DR)' will resume at the end of July, reaching 14 rural locations across Sarawak.
The programme aims to deliver direct access to information on education, training, and financial assistance to students and families in the interior.
Len expressed hope that SCaT Fair 2025 will continue to serve as a catalyst for positive change and provide young Sarawakians with the tools and opportunities to shape a brighter future.
'I urge our youth to seize every opportunity offered and make SCaT Fair 2025 the starting point for shaping their future,' he said.

Sarikei Festival 2025 showcases river's role in culture, sports
Len receives a memento from Datu Michael Ronnie Langgong. SARIKEI (Aug 4): The mighty Rajang River continues to be more than a natural waterway – it is the lifeblood of Sarikei's economic, cultural, and social identity and now serves as a world-class venue for water sports events. Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, said the river's iconic role makes it the perfect stage for international-standard events such as the Power Boat Race 2025, which concluded on Saturday in conjunction with the Sarikei Festival 2025. 'Rajang River is not merely a river flowing from upstream to downstream – it is the heartbeat of Sarikei's growth and connectivity,' he said. 'It has witnessed the movement of fishermen's boats, passenger sampans, agricultural traders, and now serves as the arena for world-class water sports events,' he added. Len officiates the flag-off for one of the boat racing categories on the final day of the competition. Speaking at the festival's closing ceremony at Terminal Penumpang 1, Len noted that the former Pineapple and Fruits Festival has now been rebranded as the Sarikei Festival, with a renewed vision to position the district as a destination for vibrant, competitive, and inclusive aquatic sports and tourism. This effort, he said, symbolises a fresh revival of the festival, blending Sarikei's traditional heritage with modern elements to appeal to both local and international visitors. He further explained that the rebranding signifies more than just a name change; it reflects a broader transformation across Sarikei's tourisn, economy, and community development strategies. 'Sarikei is rich in multi-ethnic cultural heritage, living traditions, and breathtaking landscapes – from paddy fields and plantations to rivers and forests – all enriched by the warmth of its people,' he added. Also present at the closing ceremony were Sarikei Division Resident Datu Michael Ronnie Langgong, Sarikei District Officer Louis Yeo Soon, and Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin. lead Len Talif Salleh Rajang River Sarikei Festival water sports

Abdul Karim: Sarawak yet to be briefed on federal tourism investment zones under RMK-13
Abdul Karim fields questions from reporters. — Photo by Galileo Petingi KUCHING (Aug 3): Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he will need to learn more details about the special tourism investment zones announced under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13). The Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts said he was still in the dark about the initiative, which was introduced by the federal government. 'I'm still trying to learn and understand where these tourism zones are, as far as Sarawak is concerned. For me, there are already many areas we've been promoting as our tourism products, and from the state's perspective, we don't have such zonings. 'That's why I need to learn more. Perhaps under the federal Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac), they might have created imaginary zoning areas where more tourism promotion is to be carried out. We'll see how we can be part of that,' he told reporters. He was speaking after officiating the closing ceremony of the eMpowering Youth Across Asean Cohort 5 (eYAA) Youth EdXchange Programme at TEGAS Digital Village here this afternoon. Abdul Karim said Sarawak has long been promoting its diverse tourism offerings without the need for formal zones. Should the federal government proceed with the tourism investment zones, he said the state would need to review the proposal and be officially briefed on it. 'As it is, we're still doing what we've been doing; we can see the number of tourists coming in and its very good as we're targeting 5 million visitors this year, and every month our tourism receipts exceed RM1 billion. So this is a successful effort done by the state. 'Probably the tourism zones that they mentioned already fall within the areas that we are also doing a lot of marketing such as Mulu, Niah, and apart from that the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF), Kuching Delta Geopark. 'If that's what they mean, then perhaps we're already on the same page. It's just that we haven't been briefed yet,' he added. On July 31, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the special tourism investment zones tabled in the RMK-13. Saying that this will be developed in Sarawak, Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan, he said this would involve collaboration between Putrajaya, state governments, the private sector and cooperatives. 'These zones will serve as catalysts for the creation of new tourism products, including those based on artistic, cultural and heritage assets, as well as natural attractions,' he added.
