While listening to this discussion, I read the two posts by Professor Khan (' Video: Is Ali Khan Mahmudabad's peace appeal seditious? '). I am stunned by what Justice Surya Kant wrote in the operative part of his order: that in order to 'holistically understand the complexity of phraseology' of those two posts, he is directing the director general of police, Haryana, to constitute a Special Investigation Team.
Is the English language used in those two posts beyond the comprehension of a learned judge of the Supreme Court?
Will the police officers who constitute the SIT be experts in the English language? This judge, who appoints police officers to interpret the English language for him before he does justice to a 'bail application', is in line to be the next chief justice of India.
Under such a judge, 'sedition', 'disrespect to women', 'danger to the sovereignty of the country', are terms that can be 'suitably moulded' as prevailing majoritarian sentiments, courtesy of the police officers.
Police officers will hereafter act as experts in English language in one case. In the other case, the Hindi language speech of the BJP minister in Madhya Pradesh shall also be interpreted for the learned judge. Who are these wise men holding the constitutional posts in the Supreme Court who are capable of understanding neither English nor Hindi? God save this motherland. – Onkar Singh
Ali Khan Mahmudabad can never be loyal to India. His grandfather actively participated in the movement for Pakistan. He has come to India only due to the advantage of a soft government and the generosity of Hindus, to jihad. He is at best a Pakistani agent bent upon destroying India. – GD Sharma

Supreme Court refuses to reduce sentence of advocate who abused woman magistrate in 2015
The Supreme Court Tuesday decided not to interfere with a Delhi High Court order which refused to reduce the sentence awarded to an advocate for outraging the modesty of a woman judicial officer in 2015, and granted him two weeks to surrender. A bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan recorded that it is 'not inclined to interfere with the orders' passed by the Delhi High Court against advocate Sanjay Rathore and dismissed his plea. In October 2015, the complainant judicial officer was serving as a metropolitan magistrate in the Karkardooma court when Rathore, enraged by an adjournment in his matter in his absence, verbally abused the officer, including using gendered abusive language. An FIR was subsequently lodged at the Farsh Bazar police station. Rathore was sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment under Indian Penal Code Section 509 (intending to outrage modesty of a woman), three months under Section 189 (injury to public servant), and an additional three months under Section 353 (assault or criminal force against public servant to deter them from their duty). It was directed that the sentences should run consecutively, thereby resulting in a total sentence of two years. The Delhi High Court, while refusing to reduce the sentence, however, modified it so that the sentences could run concurrently instead of consecutively. As a result, Rathore was sentenced to a total of one year and six months in prison. The high court, in its order of May 26, emphasised that acts threatening or intimidating a judge, especially through 'gender-specific abuse, is an assault on justice itself, and must be met with firm accountability'. While refusing Rathore any relief, it further recorded in its order, 'The act of outraging the modesty of a judicial officer while she was presiding over court proceedings, seated on the dais and discharging her solemn duty of dispensing justice, in this court's opinion, attacks the very foundation of judicial decorum and the institutional integrity.'

U.S. reaffirms strong support to India in fight against terrorism: State Department
The U.S. reaffirmed its strong support for India's fight against terrorism and the bilateral strategic partnership during the visit of an Indian all-party parliamentary delegation last week, the State Department said. The multi-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor met the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau last week in Washington. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said at a press briefing on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) that Mr. Landau reaffirmed the U.S.' strong support to India in the fight against terrorism and the strategic partnership between the two countries. The delegation visited the U.S. as part of the government's global outreach efforts after Operation Sindoor. India launched the operation in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Responding to a question, Ms. Bruce said that a Pakistani parliamentary delegation led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met officials of the State Department, including Under Secretary for Political Affairs Allison Hooker, during its visit to Washington last week. Ms. Hooker reiterated the U.S. support for the ongoing cessation of on-ground hostilities, '— as you might imagine, thank God — between India and Pakistan', Ms. Bruce said, adding that they also discussed important issues about the U.S.-Pakistan bilateral relationship, including counterterrorism cooperation. 'So that meeting occurred.' When asked if the U.S. received any assurance from Pakistan that it will take action against terrorists, Ms. Bruce said she was not going to discuss the details of those conversations. In response to a question on President Donald Trump offering to 'mediate' on the issue of Kashmir, Ms. Bruce said, 'Well, I — obviously, I can't speak to what's on the mind or the plans of the President. What I do know is that I think we all recognise that President Trump in each step that he takes, it's made to solve generational differences between countries, generational war." Ms. Bruce added that it should not "surprise" anyone that he would want to "manage" something like that. 'So, while I can't speak to his plans, the world knows his nature, and I can't speak to any details of what he might have in that regard…But it is an exciting time that if we can get to a point in that particular conflict..," Ms. Bruce said adding that it is a "very interesting time'. India has rejected any mediation related to the dispute on Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan and maintains that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are and will always remain an "integral" part of the country.

Centre attempting to ‘suppress' glory of ancient Tamil civilisation unearthed at Keeladi: Vaiko
Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) alleged that the Union government appears to be attempting to 'suppress' the ancient Tamil civilisation unearthed at Keeladi, while actively searching for a 'non-existent Sanskrit civilisation.' Mr. Vaiko's remarks came against the backdrop of Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat's recent observation that the reports submitted to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) by archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna, who headed the first two phases of excavations at Keeladi in Sivaganga district, are not technically well-supported and that further scientific studies are required to validate the findings. In a statement, Mr. Vaiko said the BJP government at the Centre is making every effort to 'suppress' the glory of Keeladi. 'The BJP and RSS that seek to impose the dominance of Hindi and Sanskrit culture under the guise of 'one language, one culture,' are opposed to the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of India… It is the duty of the Tamil people to resist these fascist forces that attempt to suppress the Tamil language and the ancient history of the Tamil people through various conspiracies,' the MDMK leader said.
