Global Village summer closure 2025: Final day to visit announced
Packed with plenty of things to see, do (and eat), Global Village is an affordable day out perfect for entertaining families.

The sprawling complex is famously packed full of tastes and sights from around the world, but Global Village isn't open 365 days a year. Like many top attractions in Dubai, it temporarily closes for the summer.
When will Global Village close for summer?
Dubai's family fun destination shuts its doors every summer season due to the scorching temperatures, and this year, the park's final day of season 29 will be Sunday May 11.
That means you have less than two weeks to enjoy Global Village and all its glorious offerings.
Global Village has yet to release its reopening date, but it normally falls in October when boiling temperatures begin to drop.
The multicultural destination is open daily from 4pm and closes at midnight between Sundays and Wednesdays and until 1am from Thursday to Saturday.

When you purchase a ticket, you get access to the park, 30 cultural pavilions, an authentic Emirati heritage area and the Road of Asia.

UAE passports can now be renewed one year in advance instead of six months
The United Arab Emirates has issued an important update to its passport rules. Starting Monday August 18, Emirati citizens will now be able to renew their UAE passports up to a year in advance of the expiry date. This important update means that UAE citizens will no longer have to wait until six months before their passport is due to expire to renew. The change was announced on Thursday August 14, by the Federal Authority for Identity, Nationality, Customs and Port Security (ICP). It will allow Emirati citizens greater freedom when it comes to planning trips abroad, completing transactions and broadening the use of official digital documents, as currently many services are restricted if your passport is due to expire in six months. The ICP says that the extension of the renewal period will be a significant boost to the passport issuance and renewal system and serve as a pioneering model for other countries in the region and across the world. The change in policy is part of the UAE's Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme, which aims to cut red tape and save people time. The UAE passport is considered one of the world's most powerful as it allows holders to jet off to 184 countries and territories without the hassle of pre-arranging a visa. A UAE passport is not an easy one to get, however, as you need to be an Emirati national. While it is possible for foreigners to acquire Emirati nationality, only a very select few will qualify. Categories of foreigners who can be nominated for UAE citizenship include: Investors Doctors Specialists Inventors Scientists Intellectuals Individuals with creative talents These categories were outlined in the UAE Government's 2001 amendment to the Executive Regulation of the Citizenship and Passports Law. If you are a dependent wife of an Emirati citizen, you may also qualify for a UAE passport. And, finally, if you are a newborn baby (and what newborn baby isn't reading this?) of UAE citizens, then you can also get a UAE passport. Now don't get us wrong… we're all about the cool underrated non-tourist trap spots in the city, but sometimes when you go to Dubai, you want to go to Dubai. We're talking truffle-topped pizzas in a place with Burj Khalifa views, shawarma served at 3am on Sheikh Zayed Road post-clubbing and, of course, brunch. No elaboration needed. So get hungry, charge your phone (you're going to want photos) and let us guide you through the must-hit restaurants every Dubai first-timer needs to tick off. 1) Arabian Tea House Famous Dubai restaurants you have to try. Credit: Arabian Teahouse Of course, we had to start with Arabian Tea House – the ultimate Dubai rite of passage. Tucked away in the historic Al Fahidi district, this charming courtyard café is all white rattan chairs, swaying curtains and laid-back vibes. Come for the tea (there are loads), stay for the delicious Emirati breakfasts, tanoor bread and Arabic coffee with serious kick. Since 1997, it's been a peaceful escape for celebs, locals and first-timers alike. Whether you're refuelling after a culture walk or just want somewhere to sip in style – this is heritage with heart (and very good hummus). Opening in its original form in 1995, Barasti is the city's original beach club, bar and pub, all in one. And it's still one of the most popular. Though when it opened, Barasti was far from the sprawling venue it is today. Back in the '90s, it was a swimming pool beside the beach with a hut where live musicians would play acoustic sets by the sunset. Today, the beach bar is open every day and attracts people from all walks of life. If you're looking for a laid-back bar to wear your flip-flops (or heels), Barasti is your go-to. Sprawling out across three restaurants and a large outdoor terrace, this is one for the Dubai bucket list. Famed for its huge spread of food, it's excellent quality, especially given the scale of it. Whether you want freshly shucked oysters and a slap-up roast dinner, stir-fries made in front of you, fragrant curries or fish and chips, you're in the right place. Or if you just want to go all out at the cheese station, well, we wouldn't persuade you otherwise. There are plenty of drinks stations, live music, entertainment for the kids and more. Glitz and glamour are certainly off the menu at this fairly basic eatery, but turn up for a bite to eat and you will join a lengthy queue full of hungry hordes who know all about Bu Qtair's reputation for seafood excellence. The price depends on the type of fish and how much your order is, but satisfaction is pretty much guaranteed to follow, regardless of what you get. Helmed by celebrity chef Mohamad Orfali and his siblings Wassim and Omar, the menu here is fresh, fusion and with plenty to talk about, with the Orfali bayildi, umami éclair and OB croquettes being just three of the incredible creations that are in store. It's one of the most famous (infamous?) party brunches in Dubai.
