Attack, attack and attack as Chester start with victory
The Blues started their National League North tilt with a thrilling 3-2 home triumph against Peterborough Sports. Boss McIntyre told Chester FC TV: 'Really happy with the three points. Really pleased for the players, really pleased for the supporters. 'You work very hard during the pre-season period to be geared up for the season and part of that is the opening day, and that will be the first time in a very long time - certainly the first time in my time here - that we've taken three points from the opening day. 'Loads to be pleased about. Loved our attacking intent. Loved how we kept attacking, even right at the end, making bad decisions to try and score a fourth goal, rather than kill the game in possession. 'Says a lot about who we want to be.' It was an all-action first half in front of a crowd of 2,383 at the Deva Stadium. New signings linked up in the 20th minute for the opener, as Offrande Zanzala laid the ball into the path of Fin Roberts who slotted past Peter Crook with ease. The visitors hit back immediately through Josiah Dyer, while there was a blow for Chester when Zanzala was forced off through injury, replaced by Dylan Mottley-Henry. He made an immediate impact to head the Blues back in front, while Dyer's second of the contest made it two-apiece prior to the interval. Understandably, the second half started at a slower pace than the first and Chester had their winner in the 54th minute. Mottley-Henry took advantage of a gap in the defence to grab his second of the afternoon. McIntyre said: 'You know, the three goals at home again, it says a lot about who we want to be for the coming season. 'But, I don't like the imbalance and the trade-off of being that easy to score against.' McIntyre added: 'So, delighted with the result, delighted with seeing three points next to our name after played one. 'Really pleased with showing everything we did with the ball. All type of goals. 'But, we can't have that imbalance where we're only doing one facet of the game properly, because... at this level, you can't be easy to score against the way we were.' John Rooney began life as Macclesfield manager with a victory. Rooney, the former Wrexham and Chester midfielder, led his side to a 3-1 home triumph against Worksop. Fylde, relegated from the National League last season, started with a 3-2 success at home to Oxford City. Merthyr, newly promoted into the division, are up and running thanks to a 2-0 outcome against Southport. Other results: Bedford 2 Alfreton 2; Buxton 2 Radcliffe 1; Curzon Ashton 1 Leamington 1; Darlington 2 Chorley 3; Kidderminster 1 Scarborough 0; King's Lynn 1 Telford 1; South Shields 1 Marine 0; Spennymoor 2 Hereford 0.

They're a huge outfit in terms of size, great resources and really well established at the level," Cowan told BBC Radio Northampton."We wanted to fathom the level and understand where we were and what we were doing. First win, first clean sheet bodes well for the future." A crowd of just over 1,200 watched the game at St James Park, Brackley's home since 1974."What an unbelievable moment for us to be playing in the National League - somebody was saying they watched us in the Hellenic League and now, all of a sudden, we're in the National League. For the supporters, I was overjoyed," Cowan added. "The message to the players is to make sure they go and replicate that. We've set a standard and you can't just take your foot off the gas. It's a relentless season and a relentless league."Eastleigh have a team of big, strong pros and that's what we're going to be up against all year. We've got to compete with that week in and week out."Brackley make their EFL Trophy debut on Tuesday with a home game against Blackburn Rovers Under-21s, but must then wait until 20 August for their second league fixture, when they will be away to Yeovil Town."I've got two hats on. I understand the magnitude of where we are and where we've come from and from a community perspective, a supporters' perspective, the people that love this club, just being here is incredible," Cowan added."But professionally, my job isn't to settle for that, my job is to pit our wits against the big clubs at this level, Eastleigh being one of them."
