#SHOWBIZ: Yusof Haslam donates RM380k to Putra Heights gas explosion victims
KUALA LUMPUR: Motivated by sympathy, Datuk Yusof Haslam is donating RM380,000 to assist victims of the gas pipe explosion in Putra Heights, Selangor, which occurred early last month.
The prominent producer and director revealed this pledge was linked to the performance of his latest Skop Productions film, Blood Brothers: Bara Naga.
Speaking at a recent open house event, Yusof explained, "When this film was about to be screened, the gas explosion tragedy just happened. I sympathise, some of my friends' houses were affected."
He added that seeing the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, aiding the victims further inspired him.
"I discussed with my wife the intention that if the collection of this film is more than Sheriff: Narco Integriti, we will make donations," he told BH Online.
That condition has been fulfilled.
Blood Brothers: Bara Naga had earned RM62 million in 20 days, surpassing the record set by Sheriff: Narco Integriti.
Yusof confirmed the donation details: "We will contribute RM380,000 as my sincere donation.
"God willing, we will implement it at the end of this month," potentially using platforms like a TV3 fund or local authority channels.
Yusof, known for directing hits like Sembilu, believes strongly in sharing success.
"When God gives us rezeki, it's not just for us. We have a social responsibility," he reflected, noting past instances where he provided aid to those facing hardship who sought his help.
"We help them sincerely," he said.

If it's true that I have only RM500 in savings, how is it possible for me to pay close to RM1,000 monthly for my car while also giving my family around RM1,000?" he argued.

#SHOWBIZ: Syed Saddiq secures RM100k for Muar students' SPM prep at edu roadshow
KUALA LUMPUR: Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman recently teamed up with prominent personalities, including singers Nabila Razali and Bella Astillah, for the "Mula Awal Skor A+ SPM" educational roadshow. The roadshow, aimed to boost students' performance in the SPM examinations, was held at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam and generated considerable excitement among 4,000 SPM candidates. The celebrities shared their personal experiences, offered valuable advice, and motivated the students preparing for the upcoming examinations. Syed Saddiq also received an educational sponsorship of RM100,000 from the event's organiser, PTTI Tuition Centre. This significant contribution is earmarked to assist underprivileged SPM students in Muar, Johor, providing them with access to tuition classes and improved learning facilities. Syed Saddiq emphasised that this initiative represents a crucial investment in the future of Malaysian children from low-income families. "I must express my deepest gratitude to the PTTI team for their huge contribution," he said. An additional sponsorship of RM20,000 was channelled directly to the former Youth and Sports Minister. Orang Asli villagers bridge gap to kids' studies
Compiled by BENJAMIN LEE, and ORANG Asli villagers from Pos Balar in Gua Musang, Kelantan, have taken it upon themselves to build a temporary bridge to cross the torrential Sungai Balar as school holidays draw to an end, reported Berita Harian. The new bridge, made out of wood, was built with a team of 57 villagers with the primary goal of enabling their kids and teachers from the nearby villages to attend the nearby SK Balar across the river with the first term holidays ending on June 9. Orang Asli Village Development and Safety Committee chairman Hanan Anjang said the temporary bridge took nearly eight hours to complete and was the third one built at the exact crossing location. He said the bridge was a temporary measure as plans for a new permanent bridge have finally been announced to be in the works. 'We were informed that the construction of a new bridge will begin this month but while waiting for the new bridge to be completed, residents still need to cross the river to get to school. 'So, we rebuilt the temporary bridge for the third time to ease access for parents and teachers,' he said. Previously in March, a permanent steel suspension bridge crossing for the river was destroyed after heavy rains resulted in extremely strong currents that left Pos Balar villagers isolated. On June 1, the Orang Asli Development Department announced the construction of a new RM400,000 bridge for Pos Balar. > Actress Amira Othman has denied talks of her potential marriage to fellow actor Fattah Amin, Kosmo! reported.
