Mets Make Decision on $75 Million Star Pitcher
This past offseason, left-handed starting pitcher Sean Manaea signed a three-year, $75 million contract to return to the New York Mets. This came after a dominant 2024 season in which he threw 181.2 innings and had a 3.47 ERA. He also accumulated 3.0 bWAR and had a 12-6 record.
Manaea played an integral part in the Mets making it to the NLCS last season, and as a result, he was a priority for New York in free agency. But unfortunately, Manaea would be shut down during Spring Training after a right oblique strain and has yet to pitch a game in Queens this season.

As Manaea continues to progress, the Mets have made a cautionary decision on his ramp-up process to ensure his long-term health.

According to MLB's Anthony DiComo, 'Sean Manaea received an MRI today that showed improvement, and he resumed playing catch off flat ground. He will not, however, progress beyond that over the next 10 days. The Mets want to make extra sure he's fine before pushing him.'
The Mets are not going to rush Manaea back to the mound, as they want to make sure he is fully healthy for their playoff push later in the season. Despite his absence, New York has rallied to produce the best pitching staff in MLB this season. In 15 games entering Monday, they led the majors in ERA while allowing the fewest home runs.
They have powered the Mets to an early 11-5 record which sits atop the National League East division.
