Patriots rookie Will Campbell shuts up critics with newest PFF stat

USA Todaya day ago
New England Patriots offensive tackle Will Campbell has had a stellar preseason up to this point, and the latest metrics from Pro Football Focus prove it.
Campbell is the only offensive tackle with an 80-plus pass blocking and run blocking grade, according to PFF. The Patriots' rookie first-round pick has an 87.6 run blocking grade and an 80.1 pass blocking grade so far this preseason. While PFF's metrics don't tell the whole story, they do indicate that Campbell is finding early success in the NFL.
This statistic is great news for a Patriots team hoping their investment in Campbell to be their long-term franchise left tackle pays off. The position was a revolving door of players who struggled to protect quarterback Drake Maye and help out in the run game last year.
Campbell could help bring stability to the Patriots' offensive line for years to come. A top-five draft pick ideally is capable of making an impact right away, and it appears Campbell is in line to do exactly that.

Why do the Raiders insist on giving IOL Alex Cappa 1st-team reps?

Las Vegas Raiders interior offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson split his time between playing left guard and center last season. Despite it being pretty obvious that Powers-Johnson's best fit was at center, first-year head coach Pete Carroll has made changes to the offensive line this offseason. Jordan Meredith is starting there, and Powers-Johnson has seen the majority of his reps at right guard. It's somewhat of a controversial decision. Coach Carroll believes Meredith is among the Raiders' five-best offensive linemen, and his undersized frame is best utilized at center. Even if you don't necessarily agree with sliding Powers-Johnson to guard, you at least understand Carroll's reasoning, as he continues sorting through the best up-front combinations. What doesn't compute is pretending Powers-Johnson isn't a surefire starter, however. That has occasionally happened at practice. At Wednesday's session, veteran guard Alex Cappa rotated in at right guard with the first-team offense, per reports. Cappa signed a two-year contract worth $11 million with the Raiders earlier this offseason after being released by the Cincinnati Bengals. The former Humboldt State standout hasn't been consistently healthy, having missed multiple practices at training camp. The veteran Cappa struggled last year, earning a pass-blocking grade of 39.7 from Pro Football Focus. Meanwhile Powers-Johnson is one of the young building blocks on the roster. The Raiders are insisting on making camp difficult for Powers-Johnson. Not only is the former Oregon performer not playing his best position, but he's also "competing" with an underperforming veteran. Coach Carroll should end the facade and anoint Powers-Johnson as the clear-cut starter.

Bills' Dion Dawkins on Keon Coleman Improvement: 'The League Better Get Ready'

National Football League Bills' Dion Dawkins on Keon Coleman Improvement: 'The League Better Get Ready' Published Aug. 21, 2025 11:23 a.m. ET share facebook x reddit link The Buffalo Bills could use an emergence on the outside, and in the eyes of left tackle Dion Dawkins, that player will be second-year wide receiver Keon Coleman. "It is night and day, or a sunny day and a storm," Dawkins said on Wednesday about the difference in Coleman from last year to this year, according to 13WHAM. "Keon is not the same player from last year, so the league better get ready. He is not the same guy, and as a teammate, I am so glad that he picked it up so early because he is not the same player. And I'm just glad that Josh [Allen] has him, as well as the Buffalo Bills. Keon has showed up from training camp to being on time, to checking into dinner, to checking into lunch, to being available. "He's been a fully changed Keon, and I'm happy to be his teammate and for him to just keep learning, because he is going to be special, and he already is. This is Keon's time, and you'll see it." Buffalo selected Coleman with the No. 33 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Florida State, with whom he led the ACC with 11 receiving touchdowns in 2023. In his rookie season (2024), Coleman totaled 29 receptions for 556 yards (19.2 yards per reception) and four touchdowns. He then had three receptions for 22 yards in the playoffs. The 6-foot-4 Coleman ranked 60th among wide receivers with a 68.8 overall grade, according to Pro Football Focus. The Bills averaged 227.9 passing yards per game, good for ninth in the NFL, in a season that saw Allen win the NFL MVP Award. That said, Allen also threw for just 3,731 yards, his lowest output since 2019. The 2024 season was the Bills' first without star wide receiver Stefon Diggs, whom they traded to the Houston Texans in the 2024 offseason and was a Pro Bowler in each of his four years with the franchise (2020-23). ADVERTISEMENT On the wide receiver front, 2024 mid-season pickup Amari Cooper remains a free agent, while Mack Hollins signed with the New England Patriots. Buffalo signed receivers Josh Palmer (three-year, $29 million deal), Elijah Moore (one-year, $2.5 million deal) and Laviska Shenault (one-year, $1.2 million deal), while selecting Maryland receiver Kaden Prather with the No. 240 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Bills extended wide receiver Khalil Shakir, who led Buffalo with both 76 receptions and 821 receiving yards last season, on a four-year, $53 million deal. Meanwhile, Dawkins, a Pro Bowler in each of the past four seasons, is one of the best left tackles in the sport. Last season, Dawkins ranked 16th among offensive tackles with an 81.2 pass-blocking grade, 33rd with a 72.9 overall grade and 44th with a 68.7 run-blocking grade, per PFF. Coleman, Dawkins and the Bills close out their 2025 preseason on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday night and host the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 7 to kick off their regular season. What TV channel is Patriots vs. Giants on today? Time, schedule for NFL preseason game

The New England Patriots close out their 2025 preseason run with a road trip to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Giants on Thursday. It will be the battle of the unbeatens in the exhibition games with the Patriots coming off back-to-back wins over the Washington Commanders and Minnesota Vikings, while the Giants knocked off the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. This will be the final time for roster bubble players to earn a spot on the 53-man roster, so we might not see much playing time, if any, given to starters in this matchup. However, the Patriots might get a sneak peek at Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, who could end up being the starter when the two teams meet for real on Monday Night Football in Week 13 on December 1.
