'Racist' first-class passenger threatened to gang rape air hostess after binge
Salman Iftikhar, 37, was travelling first class when he told the air hostess she would be dragged from her hotel room, gang raped and set ablaze on the Virgin Atlantic flight from London Heathrow to Lahore.
Another passenger, who captured a brief video of one of Iftikhar's 100 tirades, can be heard saying 'holy s--t' as Iftikhar repeatedly brands the air hostess a racist and declares: "You called me a p-ki in front of everybody."
Iftikhar was travelling with his wife and three children at the time of the mid-air mayhem at 39,000ft on February 7, 2023, Isleworth Crown Court heard, reports the Mirror.
"Mr Iftikhar was seen drinking champagne at the onboard bar, where he was talking to cabin crew," said prosecutor Abdul Kapadia. "During the defendant's first meal service, the defendant was seen helping himself to ice, leaning over bar he was drinking at, and taking ice with his hands.
"When told to stop, the defendant became irate, and started to film cabin crew with his phone, telling them: 'Do not tell me what to do you bitch'."
When asked by the cabin crew to return to his seat, he then said: "'Don't tell me what to do you racist f--king bitch. I know where you are from in Cardiff.'" The pilot was then alerted, and switched on the seat belt lights, which Ifitkhar blamed on the stewardess again, calling her a "f*****g b***h".
Mr Kapadia stated: "The defendant's behaviour became worse. The cabin crew discussed a diversion to Turkey. The defendant was informed of this possible diversion, to which he replied: 'I don't care. F**k it, go to Turkey. I have contacts.' The defendant then sat down, but his aggressive behaviour continued. His wife was ashamed. His three children were also on-board, and other crew members were called to assist, but the defendant continued shouting and swearing.
"He was slurring his words, with his voice raised. He shouted at the cabin crew: 'Do you know who I am?' The defendant's wife went to the food bar and tried to talk to cabin crew, but the defendant pushed his wife away, and shouted at her not to talk to crew. A crew member stabilised the wife's arm to prevent her from falling when she was pushed.
"The defendant then got up, and threatened to fight the cabin crew. He grabbed one flight attendant, named Tommy Merchant, and told him to shut up and go away. He told Mr Merchant: 'Do you know who I am? F**k off. You should know who I am. Come on you heard me. Let's go right now. Staff tried to calm the defendant down. The defendant was asked if there was anything the cabin crew could do."
But then, the court heard Iftikhar leaned forward and grabbed the woman's hand and squeezed it before calling her a "f*****g white Welsh c**t".
Mr Kapadia added: "The defendant also threatened to blow up the floor of the Avari Lahore Hotel, where the cabin crew were due to stay. The defendant knew the specific hotel, but also the hotel room numbers, and threatened the cabin crew with this. He told [the stewardess]: 'You will be dead on the floor of your hotel'."
'Iftikhar shouted at [her] and said: 'The white sheep sh*****g b***h will be dead. The floor of your hotel will be blown up and it will disappear.
He told [her]: 'You will be dragged by your hair from your room and gang raped and set on fire'. The defendant said this while his three young children were crying and pleading for him to stop."
"The hotel details proved to be accurate, and [the victim] was forced to stay there overnight, unable to sleep," Mr Kapadia revealed.
Mr Kapadia explained that when the aircraft touched down in Pakistan, no measures were taken against Iftikhar, but he was eventually detained at his €1M detached property in Iver, Bucks, on March 16, 2024.
The victim appeared in court alongside her sister, who is also a Virgin Atlantic flight attendant, both wearing their uniforms.
She revealed how she was forced to take 14 months off work in a victim impact statement read to the court. She said: "I am a strong brave, happy stewardess, and loved my job. I am well known within the company. I have been flying with Virgin Atlantic for 37 years. I was working when all flights were grounded on 9/11, and I've even flown into a warzone. But this incident has broken me.
"I was doing everything in my power to protect passengers and the crew from him. I felt exposed and vulnerable, especially as we were 39,000 feet in the air. There was nowhere for me to go.
"Never in my entire career flying for 37 years have I not been sure what to do. I have had the best career in the world for 37 years. But he has taken that away from me."
Iftikhar, from Iver, Buckinghamshire, pleaded guilty to making threats to kill and racially aggravated harassment in connection with the cabin crew member.
He was acquitted of assault by beating and threats to kill regarding Mr Merchant.
Defence barrister Ben Walker-Nolan claimed Iftikhar was experiencing 'amnesia blood loss', which played a part in what occurred.
Iftikhar has six prior convictions stemming from 15 offences, including common assault in 2004 and drink driving in 2008.
Relatives broke down in tears as Ms Recorder Annabel Darlow KC sentenced him for the "appalling incident".
His LinkedIn profile shows he is director and founder of recruitment company Staffing Match. In a statement, a spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic said: "The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our top priority, and we take a zero-tolerance approach to any disruptive or abusive behaviour on board our aircraft.
"We will always work closely with the relevant authorities and will not hesitate to seek prosecution for those individuals that cause disruption onboard through unacceptable behaviour.
"We're incredibly grateful to [the victim] and our cabin crew onboard who dealt with this distressing situation in a calm, courageous and professional manner.
"We are proud of [the victim] for her bravery in court and we will continue to offer her our full support."

Entire family of five killed in horror rental car crash in Portugal
Four members of the one family have tragically lost their lives in a head-on collision in a hire car they had just rented at Faro Airport, Portugal. The victims include 20 year old twins, their 55 year old father and their 51 year old mother. The 19 year old girlfriend of one of the siblings also perished in the horrific accident, which claimed the life of a Portuguese man travelling alone in the other vehicle involved in the crash. It's believed the group was heading north from the Algarve towards Mourao in the district of Evora, near the Spanish border, around 1.40am this morning when disaster struck on the IP2 main road in Castro Verde, roughly halfway to their final destination. It comes on the same day a man in his 60s lost his life in single vehicle road traffic collision in Co. Tipperary. Police sources close to the investigation confirmed that all four family members killed were British passport holders, despite the parents of the twins originally hailing from Mourao and returning to the municipality for holidays. They added that the twins were both born in the UK, despite Mourao Town Hall describing all four as originating from the municipality but residing in Britain. The girlfriend of one of the boys is believed to be of Polish origin but also lived in the UK, reports the Mirror. The family's residence in Britain or when they emigrated from the UK remains unknown, but the man travelling alone in the other car has been identified locally as Ruben Goncalves. The Irish Mirror's Crime Writers Michael O'Toole and Paul Healy are writing a new weekly newsletter called Crime Ireland. Click here to sign up and get it delivered to your inbox every week Mr Gonclaves is understood to have been from a town in Portugal called Almodovar. He was travelling south on the IP2. The circumstances surrounding the fatal accident are currently under investigation by the local GNR police force, it has been confirmed. Mourao's town hall officials have declared two days of mourning starting from tomorrow. A spokesman stated: "The Municipal Council of Mourao has decreed two days of municipal mourning, effective from tomorrow, Sunday, following the death of five family members involved in a traffic accident last night on the IP2, near Castro Verde. "The Municipality, in coordination with the family and law enforcement authorities, namely the local GNR Post in Castro Verde, obtained the number plate of the vehicle they were travelling in and confirmed the identity of the passengers at 3:35 p.m today. "There were four occupants in the car, all from Mourao, and a young woman with ties to the family. Residents of England, they were travelling from Faro to Mourao for their usual and well-deserved holiday. "It is with great sadness that the Municipality announces this information, offering its condolences to the families and friends of the victims. "We inform you that all activities and events organised by the Municipality are cancelled for the entire weekend." He was finally caged for 15 months at Isleworth Crown Court on Tuesday after admitting making threats to kill and racially aggravated harassment. One of Iftikhar's two wives has now posted a cryptic message appearing to defend her disgraced husband. Supermodel and actress, Abeer Rizvi, 37, begged people to "be human" and understand the pain behind every person's story. Rizvi said on Instagram: "Mental health is not a joke. Behind every story there is pain you don't see. "Before judging, try understanding. Be kind. Be human." The popular Pakistani actress has over half a million followers on social media where she often shares clips of her husband. But Iftikhar lives in the UK with another woman who is also the mother to his children. Iftikhar, Erum Salman, 38, and their three children all live in a £2million six-bedroom home in Buckinghamshire. The couple run a London-based staffing company that provides training to businesses working in customer service and manufacturing. Shock footage shows passenger slap woman for refusing to give up seat at airport sparking mass brawl Salman and the children were all forced to watch on in horror during the flight from hell. Iftikhar's vile rant was spouted on an eight-hour flight from London Heathrow to Lahore, Pakistan, on February 7 2023. Prosecutor Abdul Kapadia said Iftikhar was drinking champagne at the onboard bar and leant over to get his own ice. He said: "When told to stop, the defendant became irate, and started to film cabin crew with his phone, telling them: 'Do not tell me what to do you b***h. "When asked by the cabin crew to return to his seat, he then said: 'Don't tell me what to do you racist f***ing b***h. I know where you are from in Cardiff." He continued to call Ms Walsh a "f***ing b***h" before his escalating behaviour sparked a possible flight diversion to Turkey. Mr Kapadia added: "His wife was ashamed. His three children were also on-board, and other crew members were called to assist, but the defendant continued shouting and swearing. "He was slurring his words, with his voice raised." 9 Rizvi's Instagram post from today Credit: instagram/@abeeriftekhar 9 Angie (left) was supported by sister Claire Walsh (right) at Birmingham Crown Court Credit: Central News 9 Iftikhar with his second wife Erum Salman, 38, and their three children Credit: Facebook The out-of-control passenger then told cabin crew he would blow up the floor of their hotel. No action was taken against Iftikhar when he stepped off the aircraft in Pakistan. He was only arrested at his expensive detached home in Iver after his holiday. The judge also took into account Iftikhar's six previous convictions, including a common assault - a record she described as "lengthy and appalling". Iftikhar was living a life of luxury before his jail stint. He boasts a range of expensive cars on his driveway in Buckinghamshire including a Range Rover, Bentley and Rolls-Royce. In one photo, he is seen posing in front of a royal blue Rolls-Royce kitted out with a white leather interior. Other extravagant snaps show a number of his pricey motors parked outside the home of the Buckinghamshire property. A neighbour of Iftikhar, who asked that their identity remain anonymous, told the Daily Mail: "He's definitely very flash, someone who likes to flaunt his wealth. "How he made his money is beyond me, he ran a recruitment consultancy but I didn't really tend to see him leave for work. He was around the house most of the time. Angie Walsh's gut-wrenching impact statement IN an impact statement, Angie Walsh said she was forced to take off 14 months and the altercation "changed my life enormously". "I can't quite believe that one passenger has had this much of an impact on my, my job, my career and my life," she said. "I am a strong brave, happy stewardess, and loved my job. I am well known within the company. "But I had to take 14 months off work. "I have been flying with Virgin Atlantic for 37 years. I was working when all flights were grounded on 9/11, and I've even flown into a warzone. But this incident has broken me. "But I don't feel strong enough anymore. I was abused for eight hours and 15 mins. It has broken me. It was a very personal attack. "I was doing everything in my power to protect passengers and the crew from him. I felt exposed and vulnerable, especially as we were 39,000 feet in the air. There was nowhere for me to go. "There was one moment where I felt I could not cope. I went into the cockpit and had a meltdown. I said to the captain I don't know what to do. "I was traumatised by the threat of being gang raped. Never in my entire career flying for 37 years have I not been sure what to do. "I have had the best career in the world for 37 years. But he has taken that away from me." "One thing he did like was cars. He owned a Bentley and Range Rover, but he'd also drive different cars on a temporary basis - usually expensive looking ones." The neighbour added that Iftikhar would sometimes come back in the night "revving the engine of his car and blaring music" after going out. Another local said: "He'd usually tear down this road in a Range Rover or some other powerful car. He was a bit of a poser when it came to cars and his house." Despite his apparent wealth, a failed business venture left the recruitment boss millions of pounds in debt. The business mogul previously owned an aviation recruitment business, however it went into administration owing more than £11million to HMRC and £6.885million to HSBC. 9 The dad often shows off his lavish lifestyle online Credit: Instagram

Top BBC presenter accused of showing 'penis picture' to junior staff member
The BBC has reportedly been hit with another scandal, after a top female presenter is alleged to have shown a 'penis picture' to a junior member of staff - leaving them in tears. The star is alleged to have revealed an image of a man's penis on her phone during a casual conversation where she asked the producer if she "liked d*** pics". Insiders claim the star, who is listed among the BBC's 50 highest-paid employees, asked the young staff member an inappropriate question before showing her the picture, reports The Mirror. The young producer was said to have been "horrified and in tears" over the encounter. It is unknown whose private parts were in the picture. Bosses were alerted about the encounter, and the presenter was brought into a private meeting where she was told to apologise for her actions. The crisis has been described as a "ticking time bomb" by staff at the BBC, fearing there could be a widespread fallout if the presenter's identity became public. A source claimed to The Sun: "This incident goes beyond ordinary workplace banter. The staff member felt intimidated and upset, believing the act was meant to shock under the guise of a joke. "There's a sense that if this had involved a male presenter, the repercussions would have been immediate and severe. The fact that it's a woman at the centre of this makes the situation even more striking." The insider claimed the conversation was meant 'to be jokey, locker-room type banter' but it resulted in the young producer crying about it. A BBC spokesperson said: "While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously." The BBC has been hit with a number of scandals in the last year, with the axing of a number of Strictly Come Dancing stars over their behaviour, as well as Gregg Wallace and John Torode being fired from MasterChef in recent weeks. The BBC also came under fire for its coverage of the Glastonbury Festival. This year, Welsh presenter Wynne Evans was axed from his radio job at the BBC over allegations about his conduct. The One Show host Jermaine Jenas was also sacked by the corporation for sending inappropriate messages to two female colleagues. Meanwhile, Huw Edwards pleaded guilty to having indecent images of children and was spared jail when he admitted three charges of 'making' indecent photographs after he was sent 41 illegal images by a convicted paedophile over WhatsApp. The former BBC presenter was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for seven years. The Mirror have reached out to the BBC for comment.
