A witness described how the car stopped suddenly on the wrong side of the road before Mr Leggate and a man wearing a mask both got out of the vehicle.The man "appeared to run after" Mr Leggate before changing direction, the court was told.The prosecution allege Mr Algar was the hooded figure who was spotted on CCTV walking towards Mr Leggate's car just a few minutes before he left his place of work.When arrested the next day he admitted being in a relationship with Mrs Leggate, but denied being the masked man caught on camera or being in the car. Child dies as 20 hospitalised after school trip bus slipped 20ft down embankment
The school coach slid 20ft down a bank after it flipped onto its roof. A child has died after a bus crashed on its way back to school after a day trip. More than 20 people have been taken to hospital after the major incident - including two children who were conveyed to hospital via air ambulance. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed in a press conference at 9pm that one child that at the scene and that several others are being treated for serious injuries. A bus carrying between 60 and 70 people crashed around 3pm on the A396. Earlier, the force declared a major incident and emergency services continue at the scene. The coach is believed to have been returning to Minehead Middle School after a day trip when it crashed. Most of the people onboard were able to get off the bus. The police force has confirmed that fire crews were called to the scene to free a number of people from the wreck. Those who have not been taken to hospital have been taken to a rest centre in Wheddon Cross. Parents have been asked to head to the school where officers are there to help. Somerset Live reports Avon and Somerset Police added: "The road remains closed. We'd please ask people avoid the area so emergency services' response to this incident is not impacted. "We also ask for the public's patience at this time. This is an ongoing incident and we will provide further updates as soon as they become available." An off-duty firefighter travelling behind the coach was able to start freeing passengers immediately, Gavin Ellis of Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said. 'We were mobilised to a major incident of a coach that had overturned onto its roof and slid approximately 20ft down the embankment,' he told reporters. 'Our crews carried out a number of extrications and rescues in extremely difficult circumstances, and they also supported our ambulance colleagues with casualty treatment. 'This was a very complex and technically difficult incident for our crews to deal with, and I'm grateful for the tireless effort and actions of the crews in doing everything they could for those who were trapped and as quickly as safely as possible. 'I'm also grateful to the off-duty firefighter who was traveling behind the coach at the point of the crash who was able to start to release those casualties from the bus.' Wayne Darch, deputy director of operations for the South Western Ambulance Service said: "We declared a major incident that has since been stood down. "We sent 46 resources to the scene, including 20 double-crewed ambulances, three air ambulances, a command team and two hazardous area response teams. We treated several patients at the scene and conveyed 21 patients to hospital via land and by air."

Stab victim ‘gave grief' to murder-accused's friend over £20 debt, trial told
Hartle, also known as Charlie, was 17 at the time of the alleged attack. The defendant, of Station Road, Stanley, Derbyshire, pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article in a public place but denies murder. Marcus Coleman, a friend of Hartle's who was 'feet away' from the attack, went with two other friends and the defendant to buy cannabis from Mr Smedley that evening. Mr Coleman, who was 17 at the time but is now 18, denied that there was animosity between him and Mr Smedley because of an incident months earlier. Peter Joyce KC, defending Hartle, cross-examined Mr Coleman, who gave evidence from behind a screen at Derby Crown Court on Thursday, and said: 'Noah had been causing you… some grief about a £20 debt of cannabis a little while before.' The witness replied: 'It was a separate incident that happened months prior, it had nothing to do with this incident.' Mr Joyce said: 'I suggest it was on this night you saw Charlie for the first time in four months, that's when you told him about the problem with Noah. 'You told him that Noah was giving you grief. Noah had really annoyed you, irritated you, hacked you off.' Mr Coleman said it was 'not really a problem'. Mr Joyce said: 'There was no need at all for four of you to go and meet Noah was there? Unless there was a second purpose that required all four of you to go, namely to give him a bit of a slapping. 'For the next four hours the three of you are together at your home aren't you? The three of you instead spent between nine o'clock and one o'clock… doing a number of things. One, smoking weed. Two, talking about what had happened and, I suggest, agreeing your stories.' Mr Coleman replied: 'No sir.' Mr Joyce asked: 'Did you decide you would not say the three of you had a grudge against Noah?' The witness said no. Mr Coleman said: 'We weren't really talking about anything sir, we were shocked. We were trying to distract ourselves with the cannabis and I think I was on my PS5 at the time, trying to distract myself from the situation.' When asked why he left the scene with his friends after Hartle ran away instead of helping Mr Smedley, Mr Coleman said he was 'scared' and added: 'I still regret it to this day.' Mr Joyce said: 'You ran away from Noah in the opposite direction and you took a roundabout route to get away so you would not be seen. 'I'm going to suggest that the reason for all of that was that all four of you – you three and Charlie – had agreed earlier that Noah was to be given a bit of a slapping.' Mr Coleman replied: 'No, not true sir.' The trial continues.

Edinburgh Victoria Street targeted by vandals as police investigate
At least 10 shops on Victoria Street in Edinburgh's Old Town had graffiti tags sprayed on their windows, stone walls and doors over the weekend. Police Scotland said it had received a report of the vandalism and inquiries were ongoing. Victoria Street is popular among tourists and influencers for its colourful buildings and cobblestone pavement. Shopkeepers have said that the street, which links George IV bridge and the Grassmarket, has been "wrecked" after the "absolutely mindless" vandalism. Andrew McRae, who owns three shops on Victoria Street, told BBC News: "I've been doing business in the Old Town for a number of years and I've never seen anything on this kind of scale before with one street being so badly targeted and damaged. Another shop owner, John Bowman, told the broadcaster: "I was annoyed like everyone else would be when I saw the graffiti. I've had to buy paint to cover it up as it won't clean off. "It's not good for tourism. The authorities should do something about it but they won't." Part of the graffiti attack at the weekend saw the 900-year-old St Giles' Cathedral targeted as well as other monuments and stone buildings in the Old Town, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Removing graffiti from historical buildings is a difficult task and can require specialist equipment and knowledge to do so without damaging the building. READ MORE: Warning not to swim in two Fife beaches due to pollution Stephen Jenkinson, City of Edinburgh Council's environment convener, said: "First and foremost, defacing any building with graffiti is a criminal offence and I'd encourage anyone with any information on the culprits to contact the police. "This type of mindless behaviour damages the local environment for everyone, whether they be residents or visitors, and wastes time and money on removing it. "We've invested in a dedicated graffiti team who will be happy to offer advice to private owners on how best to deal with it and, if requested, to remove it (on a cost recovery basis)."
