The initiative introduces a suite of innovative and integrated services designed to enhance the well-being, dignity, and independence of elderly citizens and long-time residents.
Key components include the National Housing Specifications Guide for Senior Citizens, free housing design options via the 'Darak' platform, and voluntary engineering consultations in energy, electricity, and construction through the 'Aounkom' initiative.
Dedicated advisors with experience in social services and fluency in local dialects have been appointed at MoEI service centres in Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah.
They are tasked with delivering tailored assistance and managing exceptional cases with sensitivity.
Gender-specific services
The initiative also introduces gender-specific enhancements. For elderly women, the 'Leen Babek' service enables home-based transaction processing to ensure privacy and comfort. For men, increased mobility support includes reserved parking, smart service desks, and personalised assistance through to the completion of services.
A 'Golden Counter' has also been launched at service centres to prioritise senior citizens' transactions, alongside workshops aimed at increasing digital literacy among the elderly and offering direct support with digital services when needed.
We Are Your Support to empower senior citizens and residents
Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, said the initiative aligns with the leadership's commitment to providing personalised, human-centred public services.
'We believe that serving the elderly is not just a duty, but a privilege and a gesture of gratitude toward a generation that contributed to building the nation,' Al Olama said. 'The 'We Are Your Support' initiative was designed to be a model of empowerment and care, delivering an exceptional service experience that reflects the appreciation they deserve.'
He added that the initiative is part of a broader government strategy to eliminate bureaucracy and deliver proactive, seamless, and smart services that reflect the values of inclusion and respect for all community segments.

Dubai: Flydubai extends flight suspension to Syria, resumes some daytime operations

[Editor's Note: Follow the KT live blog for live updates on the Israel-Iran conflict.] Flydubai on Monday extended flight suspension to Syria till June 20 but announced resuming some daytime flights to Jordan and Lebanon from June 17 due to the ongoing Israel-Iran military conflict. 'Our flight schedule continues to be impacted by the ongoing situation in the region, resulting in flight cancellations, rerouting and delays due to congestion in air corridors. Flydubai flights to Iran, Iraq, Israel and Syria remain suspended until June 20. We are also closely monitoring the situation in Jordan and Lebanon, and flights to these destinations will resume as daytime operations from 17 June,' the Dubai-based carrier said in an update on Monday. The UAE and other carriers around the world have been suspending and re-routing flights due to the Israel-Iran conflict, which started on Friday morning. Both countries have targeted each other's military installations, nuclear sites, oil depots and other strategic locations during the night. But the situation more or less remains normal during the day hours, giving a window of opportunity to airlines to operate short-haul flights during the day. 'We have reinstated flights across our network where conditions permit and we continue to monitor and review our operations as the situation evolves. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to our passengers and appreciate their understanding during this time. The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority,' flydubai said in a statement to Khaleej Times. It said flydubai flights to Minsk and St. Petersburg remain suspended until June 17.

UAE: No fines for small companies on late registration of Emirati employees

Some UAE companies will be exempted from fines for late registration of Emirati employees. The initiative, which targets small businesses employing four or fewer UAE nationals, will be granted a waiver from additional amounts incurred due to delays in registering insured employees or failing to process end-of-service cases within the required timeframes. The move by the General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) will benefit approximately 1,906 small private-sector employers and cover fines incurred between January 1, 2024 and April 30, 2025. It is part of GPSSA's efforts to support small private sector businesses, which play a vital role in the national economy. By reducing their financial burdens, the initiative enables these businesses to improve their financial stability, reinvest in growth, and make a greater impact on the national economy, thereby contributing more to the GDP. "This initiative aims to create a supportive environment for small businesses, enabling them to focus on growth and success,' said Faras Abdul Karim Al Ramahi, director general of GPSSA. 'These companies are incubators of innovation and key sources of creativity and job opportunities for UAE nationals, contributing to social and economic stability. "This step aligns with our wise leadership's vision and tireless efforts to eliminate bureaucracy, streamline processes, and ease burdens on the business sector, enhancing the country's business environment and attracting more investment." Eligible small businesses will be contacted directly, with no further action required on their part, as part of the 'Zero Government Bureaucracy' programme. Businesses that do not receive a direct notification are not included in this initiative. The authority also emphasised the importance of adhering to pension and social security laws, reaffirming its commitment to helping small businesses remain compliant. Support includes providing clear guidance and resources to help employers understand their legal responsibilities and meet insurance requirements, ensuring the rights of both employees and employers are protected.
