Bernama Plays Crucial Role In Promoting Women Empowerment Agenda

Barnama07-08-2025
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) has played a crucial role in promoting development agendas and empowering women across more than 100 women-related sectors worldwide.
President of Women Economic Forum (WEF) ASEAN 2025, Dr Hartini Osman, said Bernama's function as Malaysia's sole official news agency was instrumental in covering the WEF ASEAN 2025 held last June, which helped the forum achieve 27 resolutions aimed at advancing women's aspirations both regionally and globally.
'We received strong support from Bernama at WEF ASEAN 2025, as it helped promote us on its platforms by interviewing the participants, leaders, and panellists from 32 countries.
'Over the three-day forum, we successfully adopted 27 resolutions, focusing on women empowerment, education, information technology, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, motivation, and more, all extensively covered by Bernama,' she said after leading the WEF ASEAN 2025 Committee to pay a courtesy call on Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin at Wisma Bernama here today.
Also present were the Bernama acting deputy-in-chief (News Service), Mohd Shukri Ishak, and the top management lineup.
Looking ahead, Dr Hartini revealed plans for the WEF Global Meet next year and expressed hope that Bernama will continue to be a media partner for the event.
'We anticipate many participants and panellists from around the world. Currently, we have 250,000 members globally and aim to reach one million this year. For the Global Meet, we hope to strengthen our collaboration with Bernama,' she said.
Meanwhile, Nur-ul Afida, in her remarks, highlighted WEF's important role in raising the voices of women across diverse fields internationally, seeing it as an opportunity for Bernama to share these initiatives with the public.
'As Malaysia's sole news agency, Bernama consistently supports and collaborates with various organisations. WEF's focus on empowering women in science, communication, and other areas provides us a valuable chance to disseminate this information through our newswire, TV, radio, and digital platforms,' she said.

Dayang 2Q bottom line decreases

The company said its revenue fell by 41% to RM267.35mil against RM455.84mil previously. KUALA LUMPUR: Dayang Enterprise Holdings Bhd 's net profit for the second quarter ended June 30, 2025 (2Q25) slipped to RM76.64mil from RM131.43mil in 2Q24. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the company said its revenue fell by 41% to RM267.35mil against RM455.84mil previously due to a lower vessel utilisation rate of 64% as compared to 91% in 2Q24. This decline was mainly driven by the delay in oil majors' contract commencement and the drydocking of two anchor-handling tug supply vessels in April and June 2025 for ship class extension, it added. For the first half ended June 30, 2025 (1H25), the company's net profit dropped to RM88.95mil against RM159.34mill in 1H24, while revenue slid by 40% to RM421.17mil versus RM702.96mil previously. The company said it is confident that solid activities will continue in the third quarter and taper off in the fourth quarter, given its performance in 2Q25, supported by steady vessel utilisation. — Bernama

Bumiputera empowerment agenda continues in 13MP

KUALA LUMPUR: The bumiputera socio-economic empowerment agenda as outlined in the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA 35) continues to be emphasised in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said this effort ensures that no one is marginalised in the 13MP implementation, and at the same time, the government will continue to eradicate poverty regardless of ethnicity. "In principle, the government has always abided by what is enshrined in the Constitution, as emphasis is given to bumiputeras and this will always be safeguarded," he said when winding up the debate on the 13MP motion in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday. Amir Hamzah, who also carries out the duties and functions of the economy minister, stressed that the issue of poverty affects all regardless of ethnicity or religion, and the government needs to address poverty eradication holistically. "The bumiputera affirmative agenda will continue to be safeguarded as enshrined in the Constitution, and poverty will be addressed in line with the implementation of needs-based policies," he added. He said the government is committed to intensifying comprehensive development based on multiple dimensions to create equitable opportunities, thus increasing social mobility and the well-being of the rakyat through the needs-based approach. "This effort will benefit all target groups in need, including bumiputera, Orang Asli, Sabahans, Sarawak bumiputera, as well as the Indian and Chinese communities," he said. – Bernama

MOSCOW, August 21 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- India is puzzled by the statements regarding its oil purchases from Russia, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on Thursday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti. Earlier this week, White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro said that India should act differently and the purchase of oil from Russia allegedly finances the conflict in Ukraine. "We are a country, where actually the Americans said for the past few years that we must do everything possible to stabilise world energy markets, including buying oil from Russia.
