Preparation for HAWANA 2025 celebration reaches 80%
KUALA LUMPUR: Preparation for the June 14 National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2025 celebration has reached 80 per cent, said Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin. She said preparations are actively underway by Bernama staff to ensure everything goes as planned. 'In fact, this evening, we will meet again to ensure this year's event will again be successful and run smoothly, thus meeting the expectations and satisfaction of those who will be attending,' she said when met by reporters after the HAWANA 2025-Bernama Strategic Partners' Appreciation Ceremony and Official Launch of BERNAMA Motorhome at Wisma Bernama here. The event was officiated by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Also present were Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa; Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who is also the director of the HAWANA 2025 Project; as well as members of Bernama's top management. Nur-ul Afida, who is also the HAWANA 2025 Working Committee chairman, also expressed her appreciation to its 79 strategic partners, comprising ministries, departments, agencies and companies who are committed to making the HAWANA 2025 highlight and side programmes a success. 'I'm extremely grateful for the support and cooperation from our strategic partners, with the number of sponsors for this year's edition seeing a significant increase to almost 80 from 44 last year. 'This is proof that our strategic partners recognise the role played by Bernama, as the implementing agency of HAWANA 2025 under the Ministry of Communications, and also acknowledging the role and experience of media practitioners in our country,' she said. Themed 'Journalism in the New Era: Embracing AI, Safeguarding Ethics', the HAWANA 2025 celebration will be held at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTC KL) from June 13 to 15, with the highlight celebration on June 14 being officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. More than 1,000 media practitioners, representatives of local journalist associations and media delegates from ASEAN member states are expected to attend, bringing together the professional media fraternity and industry experts to exchange ideas and forge strategic partnerships.

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2025 is not just a platform to celebrate the role and contribution of media practitioners in the country's development, but also a stage to uphold the integrity and credibility of the journalism profession. Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said the HAWANA celebration also allowed media practitioners to strengthen ties and exchange opinions on current issues. 'This year, although media personnel will be busy covering and reporting various important events, such as the recent 46th ASEAN Summit, we have not forgotten the HAWANA celebration, which has been gazetted for May 29, in our own way,' she said at the HAWANA 2025-Bernama Strategic Partners' Appreciation Ceremony and Official Launch of BERNAMA Motorhome at Wisma Bernama here The event was officiated by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Also present were Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa; Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who is also the director of the HAWANA 2025 Project; as well as members of Bernama's top management. Nur-ul Afida said Bernama has been tasked with being the implementing agency for the HAWANA celebration by the Communications Ministry since it was introduced in 2018 in Kuala Lumpur. She said that to ensure the celebration is inclusive and covers all states, HAWANA was held in Melaka in 2022, Perak in 2023 and Kuching, Sarawak last year. 'HAWANA is back in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship this year,' she said. At the event, Nur-ul Afida also expressed her appreciation to its 79 strategic partners, comprising ministries, departments, agencies and companies who are committed to making the HAWANA 2025 highlight and side programmes a success. 'Again, I humbly thank all our strategic partners for your continued support, thus recognising the contributions of media practitioners in the field of journalism in Malaysia,' she said. Nur-ul Afida said HAWANA 2025 would be livelier and more beneficial with the inclusion of various events and activities from May until September, starting with the HAWANA-DBP 2025 Pantun Festival, which saw eight teams from media agencies involved in stiff competition, at Wisma Bernama last Saturday. Other main programmes include a media forum jointly organised with the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), a HAWANA carnival and exhibition at the Sunway Putra Mall, a big-scale sports carnival and a HAWANA tour series to leading polytechnics. Themed 'Journalism in the New Era: Embracing AI, Safeguarding Ethics', the HAWANA 2025 celebration will be held at the KL World Trade Centre from June 13 to 15, with the highlight celebration on June 14 being officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 'We, at Bernama, are committed to continuing to strive to implement our goals as the country's official news agency and continue to excel as a trusted news source,' she said.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) -- The HAWANA-DBP 2025 Pantun Festival has successfully raised awareness on reviving Malay cultural arts, particularly within the field of journalism, says Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) CEO Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin. She said the inaugural competition proved the ability of media practitioners to express current issues through the beauty of the national language while showcasing their creativity. 'I witnessed how the pantun (Malay poetic verses) exchanged were not only amusing but also highlighted current issues in their own unique style. 'It's no easy feat, as composing pantun requires skill and a deep appreciation for the language,' she told Bernama after the event at Wisma Bernama here today. Also present were Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, Deputy Editor-in-Chief (News Service) Nasriah Darus, Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Economic News Service) Azlina Aziz, and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Language and Literature Development Department director Abang Haliman Abang Julai. Commenting further, Nur-ul Afida said the festival was not merely a competition, but a platform to empower the nation's cultural heritage. Meanwhile, Abang Haliman praised the organisation of the pantun festival, which he described as capable of instilling deep awareness among media professionals regarding the importance of language and literature.

KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar today commended the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) for its excellent media coverage of the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings held here since Friday. He conveyed his appreciation to Bernama's management and staff during a visit to the International Media Centre at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). 'Good job. You have done a good job for the country,' he said briefly, while giving a thumbs-up as a sign of appreciation. Bernama was previously appointed by the Foreign Ministry as the official media and coordinator of the International Media Centre for ASEAN Summit 2025. As part of this responsibility, Bernama developed a dedicated microsite featuring news and images related to ASEAN developments since Sept 1, 2024. In addition, Bernama has been actively disseminating coverage of Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship internationally through close cooperation with news agencies under the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) and the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA).
