Vietnamese, Malaysian News Agencies Eye Opportunities To Strengthen Ties: Bernama CEO

Barnama19-06-2025
KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama-VNA) -- The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Bernama - the national news agency of Malaysia - can co-develop AI tools for multilingual news summarisation and voice generation in Bahasa Melayu and Vietnamese, according to Bernama CEO Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
In an interview with VNA correspondents in Kuala Lumpur on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21), Nur-ul Afida suggested the two agencies initiate cross-training programmes, allowing editors and journalists from both sides to exchange expertise on AI utilisation, share articles through digital platforms, and exchange information.
Both VNA and Bernama are members of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA).

VNA joined the organisation in 1969 and is an active member currently serving on its Executive Board.
Nur-ul Afida said VNA has been a consistent and reliable partner in OANA, contributing actively to the regional media landscape through content sharing, coordination, and policy discussions.
Their coverage of ASEAN and Indochina issues adds valuable perspectives.
"Bernama appreciates the collaboration with VNA," she emphasised.
The CEO also proposed that the two agencies should share a content platform through a cloud-based news hub for fast and secure content exchange between OANA members.
During Party General Secretary To Lam's official visit to Malaysia in November 2024, the two countries upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, which, Nur-ul Afida said, creates greater opportunities for both VNA and Bernama to play a more significant diplomatic communication role.

SeGAC Highlights Govt's Push For Digital Transformation In Public Sector Finance

GENERAL KEPALA BATAS, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The Standard Accounting System for Government Agencies Conference (SeGAC) has reinforced the government's commitment to accelerating digital transformation in public sector finance and accounting through the adoption of integrated, secure and efficient digital systems. Held over two days starting yesterday, the conference brought together nearly 500 participants from various sectors. It served as a platform to showcase the latest developments in financial technology and facilitate strategic knowledge sharing between government agencies and the Accountant General's Department of Malaysia (JANM). In a statement tonight, JANM said the event, jointly organised with the Public Sector Accountants Association Malaysia (PSA), featured eight presentation sessions across a range of topics, including economic outlook, digital transformation, sustainability, leadership, motivation, auditing, finance and organisational development. A total of 13 expert speakers were involved. The conference also spotlighted the role of the Standard Accounting System for Government Agencies (SAGA), a suite of financial and accounting applications, both custom-built and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), along with supporting systems that integrate financial data, that must comply with the design standards outlined in the Accountant General's Circular (SPANM). 'SAGA enables government agencies to prepare financial statements more promptly, accurately and with greater integrity. It also ensures adherence to recognised accounting standards and enhances overall financial governance,' the statement said. JANM added that SAGA is designed to ensure data security and system reliability based on the principles of confidentiality, integrity and availability, guaranteeing that financial data remains protected, accurate and accessible at all times. Meanwhile, Accountant General Datuk Nor Yati Ahmad said the conference theme, 'Digital Evolution: The Core of New Era Sustainability', reflects the country's ambition to embrace technological transformation in line with the Malaysia MADANI policy framework, with sustainability as one of its core values. 'The theme underscores the importance of digital innovation in public sector finance and accounting, particularly through technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics, to support efficient, transparent and sustainable financial governance,' she said when officiating the event. Government agencies will be issued a SAGA Compliance Certificate once their financial and accounting systems are certified to meet the required compliance criteria approved by JANM.

CPO Futures Close Lower As High Prices Weigh On Demand

By Engku Shariful Azni Engku Ab Latif KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The crude palm oil (CPO) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives ended its rally and closed lower on Tuesday, as the recent sharp price increase is likely to deter further demand, said palm oil trader David Ng. He said that as the spread between palm oil and soybean oil continues to deteriorate, it would make palm oil more expensive compared to soybean oil. 'Therefore, the lower soybean oil prices would weigh down the market sentiment. 'We see prices supported at RM4,500 and resistance at RM4,680,' Ng told Bernama. At the close, spot-month September 2025 slid RM27 to RM4,449 per tonne, October 2025 eased RM31 to RM4,429, and November 2025 declined RM38 to RM4,521. The December 2025 contract fell RM42 to RM4,530 per tonne, January 2026 reduced RM43 to RM4,527, and February 2026 shed RM44 to RM4,503. Volume surged to 95,632 lots from 70,059 lots on Monday, while open interest rose to 253,319 contracts from 249,400 previously. The physical CPO price for August South remained unchanged at RM4,470 per tonne.

From Aug 19, the biometric ticket authentication system using chip-based ID cards is officially operational at Hanoi Station. The system will later be integrated with the VNeID app, enabling passengers to verify tickets with electronic identification data without carrying physical ID cards. Passenger surveys revealed 92 per cent satisfaction, citing greater convenience. The system reduces pressure on ticket inspectors, especially during peak hours, while enhancing safety, transparency, and efficiency for railway management. Once fully integrated with VNeID, the VRC aims to establish a nationwide and fully electronic ticket verification system. Passengers can enjoy traditional cultural performances such as quan ho, ca tru, cheo, and xam singing throughout the journey. — VNA/VNS The same day, the corporation also introduced the Hanoi Train, inspired by the historic gates of the old imperial citadel Thang Long. Its five carriages are named after the gates – O Cau Den, O Quan Chuong, O Cau Giay, O Cho Dua, and O Dong Mac, recalling the capital's thousand-year heritage. The train features five double-decker seating carriages and two others designed for check-in experiences. Each carriage, seating 40–60 passengers, is fitted with panoramic windows and themed interiors. Passengers can enjoy traditional cultural performances such as quan ho, ca tru, cheo, and xam singing throughout the journey. The Hanoi Train is expected to enter service in September 2025, contributing to the promotion of cultural tourism and reaffirming the VRC's efforts to blend heritage preservation with modern innovation. - Vietnam News/ANN
