SeGAC Highlights Govt's Push For Digital Transformation In Public Sector Finance
KEPALA BATAS, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The Standard Accounting System for Government Agencies Conference (SeGAC) has reinforced the government's commitment to accelerating digital transformation in public sector finance and accounting through the adoption of integrated, secure and efficient digital systems.
Held over two days starting yesterday, the conference brought together nearly 500 participants from various sectors. It served as a platform to showcase the latest developments in financial technology and facilitate strategic knowledge sharing between government agencies and the Accountant General's Department of Malaysia (JANM).
In a statement tonight, JANM said the event, jointly organised with the Public Sector Accountants Association Malaysia (PSA), featured eight presentation sessions across a range of topics, including economic outlook, digital transformation, sustainability, leadership, motivation, auditing, finance and organisational development. A total of 13 expert speakers were involved.
The conference also spotlighted the role of the Standard Accounting System for Government Agencies (SAGA), a suite of financial and accounting applications, both custom-built and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), along with supporting systems that integrate financial data, that must comply with the design standards outlined in the Accountant General's Circular (SPANM).
'SAGA enables government agencies to prepare financial statements more promptly, accurately and with greater integrity. It also ensures adherence to recognised accounting standards and enhances overall financial governance,' the statement said.
JANM added that SAGA is designed to ensure data security and system reliability based on the principles of confidentiality, integrity and availability, guaranteeing that financial data remains protected, accurate and accessible at all times.
Meanwhile, Accountant General Datuk Nor Yati Ahmad said the conference theme, 'Digital Evolution: The Core of New Era Sustainability', reflects the country's ambition to embrace technological transformation in line with the Malaysia MADANI policy framework, with sustainability as one of its core values.
'The theme underscores the importance of digital innovation in public sector finance and accounting, particularly through technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics, to support efficient, transparent and sustainable financial governance,' she said when officiating the event.
Government agencies will be issued a SAGA Compliance Certificate once their financial and accounting systems are certified to meet the required compliance criteria approved by JANM.

Adam Radlan acquitted of graft charges
Settled: Adam Radlan (centre) at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex. — Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: The Segambut Bersatu deputy chief was let off with a RM4.1mil compound by the anti-graft agency this week before the court acquitted him from 12 charges linked to the Jana Wibawa project. Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad is now free from the charges of corruption and money laundering following the payment of the compound issued by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Monday. Sessions Court judge Suzana Hussin made the order of acquittal yesterday after the court was informed that the MACC has agreed to accept Adam Radlan's representation and payment has been made. Deputy public prosecutor Farah Yasmin Salleh said the MACC agreed to offer the compound under Section 92(1) the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities (Amla) Act 2001 based on the representation sent by him to the MACC. Following this, the prosecution sought a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) in line with Section 254(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code to be granted to the accused. Adam Radlan's lawyer Datuk Seri Rajan Navaratnam, however, argued that his client should be given an acquittal on grounds that the compound has been paid. On Feb 21, 2023, Adam Radlan was charged with one count of soliciting a cash bribe of between 3.5% and 7% of a RM47.8mil road construction project from Mat Jusoh Mamat, the managing director of MIE Infrastructure & Energy Sdn Bhd. He was also charged with another count of accepting a bribe of RM500,000 from the same individual as an inducement to help the company secure the same project, which spanned from Jalan Sungai Adam to Kampung Banat in Perlis, from the government through direct negotiations. In February 2024, Adam Radlan was charged with two counts of receiving RM4.1mil in bribes from Lian Tan Chuan and Mat Jusoh for helping Nepturis Sdn Bhd and MIE Infrastructure & Energy obtain two similar Jana Wibawa projects and one count of soliciting RM2mil from Lian as an inducement to help Nepturis secure another project related to Jana Wibawa. The charges were framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 and punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. Adam Radlan also faces seven money laundering charges amounting to more than RM3mil under Section 4(1)(b) Amla.

Volkswagen ties up with PKT for logistics needs
PETALING JAYA: Volkswagen Group Malaysia (VGM) is tying up with PKT Logistics (M) Sdn Bhd (PKT) to further enhance its logistics efficiency in the country. In a statement, VGM said the partnership is aligned with the ongoing transformation in the logistics industry, which focuses on efficiency, transparency, proactiveness and customer experience. 'This partnership will not only enhance VGM's inbound and outbound logistics efficiency but also contribute to Malaysia's ambition to become a regional logistics hub. 'With PKT's proven capabilities, VGM is confident of strengthening its supply chain agility and resilience, which are critical to supporting the group's growth in the years ahead.' VGM managing director Susanne Lehmann said the tie-up marks a strategic milestone for the group. Meanwhile, PKT group chief executive and managing director Datuk Seri Michael Tio said the logistics group's priority is to ensure seamless, efficient, and reliable logistics operations that support Volkswagen's regional supply chain. 'With decades of expertise in the automotive logistics sector and partnerships with several global brands, PKT remains steadfast in our commitment to sustainability and environmental, social and governance-driven practices,' Tio said. Volkswagen Group is one of the world's leading automobile manufacturers and largest carmaker in Europe and China. Nine million cars are produced and sold every year, coming out of 115 factories worldwide. Out of its 10 brands, five are manufactured and sold in Malaysia: Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Scania and MAN. VGM was founded in 2005, when its local operations began, while Scania and MAN had begun distribution since the 1970s, Porsche began production in 2021 and Audi this year in April in Pekan. VGM is now preparing the local productions of electric vehicles, generating the ecosystem in Malaysia with local partners and within the Volkswagen production network. The group will additionally start the export project to other Asean countries in 2026.
