PM orders to digitise all industrial production processes
The prime minister gave these directives while chairing a weekly review meeting on Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) digitisation and other reforms on Wednesday.
According to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), PM Shehbaz directed that the Track and Trace Digital Production System be integrated into the production and delivery stages of goods to bring all production into the tax net.
The prime minister further directed the expansion of the scope of FBR's Point of Sale (POS) system in the retail sector.
During the meeting, the premier was briefed on the progress of reform initiatives in the FBR.
The briefing noted that the Track and Trace Digital Production System has so far been fully implemented in the sugar, tobacco, and fertiliser industries and will soon be fully rolled out to the cement and other sectors.
The prime minister instructed the FBR to keep all channels open to facilitate the business community and taxpayers.
PM Shehbaz appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Finance and the FBR for achieving a 42% increase in federal tax revenues in FY 2024–25, the highest in the last ten years.
It was learnt that Rs865 billion in additional revenue was collected in FY2024–25 compared to the previous year through reforms and the enforcement of tax laws — a historic eightfold increase.
The briefing further stated that the federal revenue to GDP ratio stood at 11.3% in FY 2024–25, which is 1.5 percentage points higher than the previous year.
PM Shehbaz directed that all institutions must work with full dedication to achieve revenue and economic goals in the new fiscal year.
'No carelessness will be tolerated in achieving economic targets for Pakistan's prosperous future,' said the Prime Minister.
'I am personally supervising all stages of revenue collection and the achievement of economic goals,' he added.
PM instructed FBR officers to treat the public with dignity and called on all government departments to fully cooperate with the FBR for the development of the national economy.

Officials informed the meeting that the 'Digital National Pakistan' initiative is underway, and the Islamabad City mobile app has already recorded 1.3m downloads. Through the app, Rs15.5b has been collected under the ICT excise and taxation department. The government is also advancing the Digital Pakistan ID project and e-stamping services will soon launch in Islamabad. Plans are in place to extend free Wi-Fi services across Islamabad in hospitals, schools, offices, parks and metro stations. Shehbaz directed that these digital services be extended to federal areas, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. PM Shehbaz departs for Azerbaijan to attend ECO summit
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left for Azerbaijan on Thursday to participate in the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). The summit will commence in Khankendi, Republic of Azerbaijan today. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi are accompanying the premier. During the summit, the prime minister will share Pakistan's perspective on key regional and global challenges, reaffirm Pakistan's commitment to the ECO Vision 2025, and advocate for enhanced intra-regional trade, transport connectivity, energy cooperation, and sustainable development. SBP plans to ease digital payment mechanisms for traders
In a bid to promote cashless payments, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is formulating a strategy to simplify digital payment methods for traders. This was revealed during a weekly meeting on cashless and digital economy held on Thursday, read a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). In a briefing to the prime minister, it was stated that the Digital Payments Innovation and Adoption Committee, the Digital Public Infrastructure Committee, and the Government Payments Committee, formed during the previous meeting, have now been constituted. During the meeting, these committees gave a presentation on their strategies and proposals for digitising the economy. Pakistan's e-commerce sector faces operational costs surge amid new taxes 'A digital transaction system is essential to bring transparency to the economy,' said PM Shehbaz. The prime minister was informed that a facilitation package will be introduced to encourage the participation of small businesses in digital transactions. It was learnt that the government intends to increase the number of mobile app users for digital payments from 95 million to 120 million, raise the number of merchants using QR codes from 0.9 million to 2 million, and expand total digital payments from Rs7.5 billion to Rs12 billion. It was also shared that the Digital Economy Project under the vision of Digital National Pakistan has been launched. The Islamabad City mobile app has so far recorded 1.3 million downloads and currently offers 15 services. Through the app, collections under the ICT Excise and Taxation head have reached Rs15.5 billion. It was told in the briefing that work on the Digital Pakistan ID project is progressing swiftly. Additionally, efforts are underway to provide Wi-Fi internet services throughout Islamabad, especially in hospitals, educational institutions, government offices, parks, and along metro bus lines.
