Woman accused of murdering ex-partner on Christmas Day ‘not a violent person'
Prosecutors allege Carless, of Haling Way in Cannock, Staffordshire, took a kitchen knife in a taxi from her home to Mr Price's parents' address in Elm Road, Norton Canes, where she expected to find him with a woman.
CCTV showed Carless 'stalking' him around the garden before he was later found with a single stab wound to the chest on the conservatory floor.
The court was told Mr Price was considered by police to be 'at very high risk of domestic abuse' before his death.
On Tuesday, Carless told the court she went to Mr Price's parents' address as she believed he had taken money from inside a card she had in her home.
Before getting a taxi, she said she phoned him to see if he had taken the money, but he did not answer, so she went to his parents' address.
Carless's defence barrister asked what she took with her, and she said a set of keys and phone, and asked if she had a knife about her person, she said 'no'.
Asked why she told the taxi driver she would only be a minute, Carless said: 'Because I was going to get the money and come back.'
Carless said she opened the front door and shouted but no one answered, then went upstairs.
Asked if she thought he might be with another woman, she said: 'I didn't care whether he was in bed with somebody else, I wasn't interested.'
Carless then said she was in the kitchen, and there was 'no one about', then a light came on outside.
Asked what happened next, Carless said: 'I remember being in the conservatory, that was it the next thing I knew I was in the kitchen.
'Louis was sat on the floor. Then I panicked and ran off.'
Carless's defence barrister asked her why she picked up a knife, and she said she was going 'to go and destroy the caravan', and asked why, she said as far as she was aware, he had taken the money.
Asked what she remembers, she said: 'I remember being in the conservatory, I see Louis, the next thing I know I was stood by the breakfast bar…' and she said Mr Price said 'you've hurt me you stupid bitch'.
She added: 'He was coming back to his feet and I just panicked then.'
Asked if she remembers chasing Mr Price around the garden, she said: 'No.'
Asked if she has any recollection of stabbing Mr Price, she said: 'No, I just remember him holding his chest.'
Asked as far as she was aware, did she intend to kill him, she said: 'No, I'm not a violent person.'
And asked as far as she was aware, did she intend to cause him serious harm, she said: 'No.'
Carless told the court she felt 'fear' when asked what emotions she remembers from that night.
The defendant said she does not remember what she did with the knife.
She said she went to her mother's. Asked why she did not answer any questions when she was interviewed by police, she said she was advised by the legal team.
Asked how she feels about the matter now, she said 'disgusted'.
Carless's defence barrister said the court has heard the defendant has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Asked about an incident in November, being questioned by her defence barrister, Carless said she was throwing Mr Price's stuff down the stairs, when he pinned her down, and she was then pushing him off her.
And asked if she assaulted him that day, Carless said 'no'.
Jonas Hankin KC, prosecuting, told Carless the prosecution's case is that she intended to kill Mr Price. She replied: 'No.'
Later, Mr Hankin put to Carless that she was 'jealous and possessive' towards Mr Price, and she replied: 'No.'
Mr Hankin added: 'And if he spoke to another woman, you would assault him.'
Carless replied: 'No.'
When Mr Hankin put to the defendant that she lost her temper when she saw the Tinder profile, she replied: 'No.'
After he put to her that she 'couldn't bear to think of him with somebody else on Christmas Eve', Carless said: 'He already had another girlfriend.'
Mr Hankin put to her that during the November incident, she shouted at him and strangled him, and she replied no to both.
Carless denies murder and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place in relation to the fatal incident on December 25 2024 and one count of intentional strangulation and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in relation to the incident on November 11 2024.
The trial continues.

Woman searches her husband's name online and awful discovery leads to his arrest
A woman's hunch about her husband lead to his arrest after she discovered he was living a double life. He issued a grovelling apology as he was sentenced in court A woman turned detective and discovered a shocking double secret about her husband - which ultimately led to his arrest. Tonya Betsey met Henry Betsey, Jr on Tinder, and the two were married at the Duval County Courthouse in Jacksonville, US, on November 24, 2020. "Meeting on a dating site and the way he portrayed himself, he sold the perfect person, when in reality he was none of those things," she warned. It comes after woman is jailed for leaving eight starving dogs to eat each other in hellhole flat. Sadly, it didn't take long for Tonya to realise she wasn't the only lady in Henry's life. His indiscretions came to light when she began to search for her husband's name in county court records, and made the shocking discovery that he had marriage licenses to two other women. Henry had married second wife Brandy two years after his wedding to Tonya, in February 2022. And just months later, a third woman, Michele, met Henry on the dating website and they tied the knot at a courthouse in Hernando County in November 2022, after only knowing each other for three weeks. "I just started county by county, putting in his name. And that's when I came up with the marriage to Michele and the marriage to Brandy," Tonya told WFTS. Betsey Jr. didn't get divorces or annulments before marrying again, and there is no database that compares Florida marriage licenses between counties. The wives all blame the state of Florida for not cross-referencing marriage licenses between counties. "There are no safeguards, and I feel like that's part of where the system failed," Michele said. "If the counties did talk, it would have saved me a lot of heartache, a lot of money, a lot of stress," Tonya added. Betsey Jr. pleaded guilty to the felony bigamy charge in May. Speaking at his sentencing hearing this week, he apologised for marrying three women at the same time. "First and foremost, I want to apologise to the ladies and I want to apologise to the court administration and to my family and friends that had to be involved in this. Because ultimately this is something that I didn't wish to be part of," he said. Since Henry had no prior criminal convictions - and with another case in Virginia not yet resolved - the judge explained that he was limited under the law in what sentence he could impose. "I'm going to adjudicate him guilty of the bigamy offense, which is gonna make him a convicted felon," Judge Charles B. Merritt, Jr. said. "I'm gonna sentence him to two years' probation with 8 days credit for time served. You're gonna have to do a mental health evaluation, complete a certified battery intervention program." Betsey's former wives and their families said they had hoped Henry would see jail time - but that they were glad to put the ordeal behind them "While I respect the court's decision and understand the reasoning behind the sentence, I can't say I was completely satisfied with the outcome. I had hoped for a stronger sentence," Tonya said in a statement. "That said, I recognise that the judge weighed all the factors involved, and I accept the decision, even if it wasn't what I had expected." "While it was not jail time, the fact that he is a convicted felon, that speaks mountains and I feel like that's vindication on our part," Michele added.

Man tragically predicted his own death before being murdered by ex-girlfriend
Kirsty Carless has been jailed for life. A tragic boyfriend who was murdered by his ex predicted 'something bad would happen' shortly before his death. Louis Price was killed by Kirsty Carless. The "manipulative, emotionally volatile, and jealous' ex was this week jailed for life over the death of the 31-year-old, who had suffered horrific abuse at her hands. The Mirror reports she was told she must serve a minimum of 25 years, after being found guilty of Louis' murder following a hearing at Stafford Crown Court. The court heard how killer Carless, 33, had already been on police bail for strangling Louis the month before she brutally murdered him, in an act "motivated by anger and jealousy and fuelled by cocaine and alcohol". Father-of-six Louis had been considered by police officers to be 'at very high risk of domestic abuse'. Following the strangulation incident on November 11, 2024, Louis had called 999. He told of how Carless had poured bleach over tracksuits worth £400 after putting them in the bin. He'd also said she'd thrown a glass candle holder at him, pulled him down the stairs, and choked him. In a harrowing witness statement, Louis described how the relationship, which began in 2021, had been 'on the whole, abusive', adding that Carless had stopped him doing things he enjoyed, such as playing football, as well as physically abusing him. Hauntingly, at a funeral held at the end of November 2024, Louis confided in his friend Demi-Louise Deakin about his on-off relationship with Carless. He admitted he was 'scared of Kirsty' and feared that 'something bad would happen' if he did not leave her. Mere weeks later, he was dead. The terrible events that unfolded began on Christmas Eve 2024, an evening which Carless, from Cannock, Staffordshire, spent at the pub drinking double vodka and cokes with a male friend. She then went back to this man's house, where they had sex. It was at around 1.30 am on Christmas Day that a female friend sent Carless a screenshot of Louis' Tinder profile. Furious, Carless took a taxi back to her house, where she collected a kitchen knife. She then ordered another taxi to Louis' parents' home, where he'd been staying since the abusive relationship ended. While waiting for this second taxi, Carless called Louis repeatedly. Call records show she rang him a total of 45 times between 2.15 am and 2.44 am. Once she arrived at his family home, Carless asked the driver to wait outside. About 20 seconds after Carless let herself into the property with a key, the driver heard a 'very loud and prolonged' scream from a man who 'sounded scared'. Disturbing CCTV footage shows Carless running up Louis' front garden path into the house before 'stalking' him around the garden. He was later found on the floor of the conservatory, with a single stab wound to the chest. Less than two minutes after they pulled up, an 'anxious and sweating' Carless got back into the taxi and demanded the driver take her back to her parents' home. It was then that she confessed what she had done, and 999 was called. Giving evidence to the trial, Carless claimed she had no recollection of stabbing Louis. Stating she was 'not a violent person' Carless told the court she'd only gone to Louis' address as she believed he'd taken money from a card she had in her home. After picking up a knife with the intent to destroy the caravan Louis had been staying in in his parents' back garden, Carless claimed she'd 'panicked' after he was stabbed and fled the scene. As well as being found unanimously guilty of murder and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, Carless was also found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm relating to a previous incident, but cleared of intentional strangulation.
