Julie Vanloo signs with Sparks after being suddenly waived by Valkyries, will play vs Liberty

Days after being waived by the Golden State Valkyries, Julie Vanloo is getting another chance. On Thursday, the Los Angeles Sparks signed the Belgian guard, just ahead of the team's away game against the New York Liberty.
Vanloo was waived by the Valkyries on Monday, after being away from the team for the EuroBasket tournament as part of Team Belgium. Vanloo and Belgium triumphed over Spain in the EuroBasket final on Sunday; one day later, as she returned to Golden State, she was waived.

Now, she will get a fresh start with the Sparks. Within 40 minutes of the announcement, Vanloo was seen warming up ahead the game.
Vanloo, 32, had a long career in Europe before joining the Washington Mystics in 2024. She was then selected by the Valkyries in the 2025 expansion draft. Vanloo had limited time on the court for Golden State prior to being waived., averaging 4.6 points and 4.1 assists per game, and averaging 20 minutes.
In a lengthy Instagram post on Tuesday, Vanloo laid out the complex series of emotions that came with being waived. The Belgian guard said that she missed out on celebrating the victory with her team in order to return to the Bay area as soon as possible, but that she had been waived "1 hour upon arrival."
"Honestly, that stung. I understand it's business, but nothing prepares you for the loneliness that comes with getting cut. It feels like the whole world suddenly crashes on your shoulders," Vanloo wrote.
"When it hurts this much to be waived, it means it was something truly special to be part of and I'm forever grateful for that," she added later in the post. "Right now, I'm overwhelmed with emotion and just need a little time to process it all."
When asked by reporters about Vanloo on Wednesday, Nakase defended the manner in which Vanloo was waived.

"From my perspective, I thought it was respectful because whenever a situation like that happens, you bring them in and as an adult you say thanks face to face," Nakase said, via ClutchPoints' Kenzo Fukuda.
Vanloo will be a welcome addition to the Sparks, who are 11th in the league with a 5-12 record. Though the guard will likely still come off the bench, Vanloo will be a veteran presence in the backcourt alongside Kelsey Plum, and a complement to forwards Dearica Hamby and Rickea Jackson.

USC women's basketball adds Lithuania's Gerda Raulusaityte to roster

With the start of the 2025-2026 season drawing closer, USC women's basketball continues to add to its roster. On Thursday, the Trojans picked up a commitment from 6-3 post player Gerda Raulusaityte. Raulusaityte comes to USC from Lithuania. She has competed professionally in the country, as well as for the Lithuanian national team. 'Gerda is an important and exciting addition to our team," head coach Lindsay Gottlieb said in a statement. 'A dynamic post player with a plethora of international experience, Gerda will bring size, versatility, toughness and skill to our front line. We are proud that she made the Lithuanian senior national team for EuroBasket, and we know that her unique experiences playing in Europe will add a new dimension to our team. Gerda has been a joy to get to know. I have no doubt that being a part of the Trojan Family will make her feel as if she has a home away from home. We can't wait to welcome Gerda to Los Angeles and our campus.' USC is losing Kiki Iriafen and Rayah Marshall, its two starters in the post from last season. Raulusaityte will look to compete for immediate playing time this season in order to help the Trojans fill the void created by their departure.

Warriors agree to historic seven-team trade involving two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant

The Golden State Warriors will be involved in a historic seven-team trade involving two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant in early July. According to the Stein Line's Jack Fischer, the deal has been agreed upon by all parties (Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Phoenix Suns) as of July 3. Advertisement 'While we sift through the Jonas Valanciunas developments in Denver (Nuggets), the NBA-record seven-team trade that will send Kevin Durant to Houston has been fully agreed to in principle,' Fischer reported on X/Twitter Thursday. While the deal won't land Golden State any game-changing assets (Alex Toohey and Jahmal Mashack), it's still worth noting that the Dubs will be a part of a deal like none other. The Athletic's Fred Katz broke the news regarding the potential trade on Wednesday, noting that the public shouldn't expect any new surprises. 'In a would-be seven-team trade, there is an unprecedented amount of detail,' Katz stated. "Unfortunately, while a seven-team trade would make for a thrilling topic at a cocktail party, there haven't been many unexpected developments in these negotiations."
