Cameron Brink sparks excitement over possible return amid ACL recovery milestone
It has been 13 months since Cameron Brink played a basketball game. Brink, the #2 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, has been sidelined since June 2024 after she suffered a torn left ACL in a game against the Connecticut Sun -- and the Los Angeles Sparks have eagerly awaited her return to action. That said, the Sparks have wisely taken it slow with Brink, prioritizing her long-term status. Even after trading for All-Star guard Kelsey Plum, Los Angeles is building for the future around Brink, Rae Burrell and Rickea Jackson. MORE: Cameron Brink finally reveals where she got her signature hoops While recovering from her devastating ligament injury, Brink has modeled for Sports Illustrated and started a podcast, "Straight to Cam," which boasts nearly 18,000 subscribers on YouTube. But a return to the hardwood is getting closer, just in time for the Sparks to make an improbable playoff push around Plum, Dearica Hamby and their young players. During All-Star Weekend, Brink took her recovery to another level, working out her left side a week after an on-court session seemed to indicate her return to action was imminent. Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts had expressed optimism that Brink could step back on the court before the end of July. While Tuesday's game against the Washington Mystics may be a touch too soon, the dynamic power forward is on the right track -- and could be the piece needed for the 8-14 Sparks, three games out of the playoffs, to go on a late-season winning streak. Mystics' second half starts with a familiar-looking loss to the Sparks
Brittney Sykes has a goal for the second half of the WNBA season: Eliminate those subpar quarters that plagued the Washington Mystics before the all-star break. All too often, three quarters of good play would be ruined by one in which everything got out of whack. The Mystics and their all-star guard will have to keep working on that: After a fantastic start against the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday night, a nine-point second quarter included seven turnovers and erased a 16-point lead. For the second game in a row — bracketing the midseason time off — the Sparks had their way offensively against the Mystics. They left CareFirst Arena with a 93-86 victory Tuesday night and combined to score 192 points in those two wins.
