Ionescu scores 36, Meesseman has 11 in debut as Liberty beat Sun 87-78 to snap 4-game skid
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Sabrina Ionescu scored 36 points, Emma Meesseman had 11 points in her return to the WNBA and the New York Liberty snapped a four-game losing streak with an 87-78 win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. Jonquel Jones added 21 points and nine rebounds for the Liberty (18-10), who were without All-Star Breanna Stewart for a fourth-straight game because of a bruised knee. Tina Charles had 17 points and eight rebounds and Anneesah Moorow 16 points and nine rebounds for the the Sun (5-22), who handed the Liberty their worst loss of the season on Friday 78-62. Bria Hartley added 12 points and Marina Mabrey 10. Meesseman, a former finals MVP who last played in the league in 2022 before winning the EuroLeague Women's MVP the last three seasons, did all her damage in the second half. Ionescu had 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season to go with her fifth 30-point game as she finished a point shy of her career best. She also surpassed 1,000 assists, the third-fastest to reach that milestone. Ionescu had 16 points of New York's first 20 and the Liberty scored the last nine of the first quarter to take a 25-19 lead that they never relinquished. She had 20 and Jones 13 for a 45-38 lead at the half. Meesseman got on the scoreboard with a pair of free throws early in the third quarter, and scored seven during a 9-2 surge that saw the Liberty turn a four-point lead into the first double-figure lead of the day, 54-43. New York took a 66-57 lead into the fourth quarter. ___ AP WNBA: The Associated Press

Will Caitlin Clark play today? Indiana Fever vs Dallas Wings
The Indiana Fever (15-12) are back in action on Friday at the Dallas Wings (8-20). The Fever are seeking their fourth win in a row as they travel to the American Airlines Center to battle Paige Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale and the Wings. Will Caitlin Clark return to action when the Fever do so? Unfortunately, Clark remains sidelined with a right groin injury. This is the 15th regular-season game Clark has missed in 2025 and the 16th overall, including the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final. Meghan Hall of For The Win with USA TODAY Sports shared Clark's injury news on Thursday evening. With Friday night's injury absence, Clark has missed the past six contests for the Fever. Fans last saw Clark in the final minute of the Fever's 85-77 win over the Connecticut Sun on July 15. Clark's injury woes began in the preseason when she missed the team's opening preseason contest with a left leg injury. Then, a left quadriceps strain cost Clark five games from May 28-June 10. That was followed by a left groin injury that sidelined Clark for four regular season games and the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final from June 26-July 5. The Indiana Fever released an official statement on Clark's injury status and on her recovery last Thursday, July 24. "Caitlin Clark underwent further medical evaluations earlier this week, which confirmed that no additional injuries or damage were discovered. "Clark will continue working with the medical team on her recovery and rehabilitation, with the priority on her long-term health and well-being. There is no timetable available for her return," the Fever's statement read. Last Sunday, ESPN's Holly Rowe shared a potential timeline for Clark's return. 'Last time when she came back from injury, she didn't get any practice time (or) any time to ramp up her conditioning. This time, they're going to make sure she has time and practice to get rhythm and time with her teammates. "As you look at their schedule, the third week in August provides a few more practice days where that seems like it's realistic. While she does remain day-to-day, that seems like a better timetable for a possible Caitlin Clark return," Rowe said. Tipoff against the Wings is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on ION. Caitlin Clark Names the Most Misunderstood Thing About Her Without Hesitation
Caitlin Clark Names the Most Misunderstood Thing About Her Without Hesitation originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is dealing with her third injury of the year. It sidelined her from the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday. She was named a captain after receiving the most votes of any player in the league, followed by Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier. Although she couldn't contribute to her team during All-Star Weekend, she served as an ambassador and assisted coach Sandy Brondello. On Monday, Clark joined WNBA legend Sue Bird and American soccer great Megan Rapinoe on their podcast, "A Touch More," where they discussed several trending sports topics and focused on Clark's perspectives surrounding the WNBA. Co-host Rapinoe asked Clark what she feels is the most misunderstood thing about her, both on and off the court, to which Clark gave a personality-oriented answer. 'I feel like a lot of people don't realize like how goofy I actually am. Like, and I think like a lot of my teammates would say that, like even like Steph White was saying this the other day, like people don't realize like I'm just like comedic relief in the locker room," Clark said. "Like once I step on the court, like I'm super fiery and like ... I want to kill. But every moment other than that, it's like it's not serious. Like I just have fun. I have a good time.' On the court, Clark is known for her fiery competitive spirit, the only side of her that most fans get to see, as they are only tuned in for her games. "Like so I feel like that's hard for people to understand. And you know, it should be because they only watch us for a couple hours a week," said Clark. "Like you only see what we're doing on TV, like doing our job and you'll see what we do with the rest of our hours of our lives." This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 21, 2025, where it first appeared.
