Woman dies and two others left injured after car hits pedestrians near Crawley Leisure Park
The incident involving a grey BMW 3 Series took place outside Crawley Leisure Park in West Sussex at about 8.36pm on Saturday, Sussex Police said.
A 25-year-old woman was killed in the collision, while her sister, 12, and their cousin, a 19-year-old woman, were seriously injured and taken to hospital.
The force said a 33-year-old man from Crawley was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs.
He remains in police custody.
Chief Inspector James Davidson added in a statement: "Our thoughts are with the victims' family at this difficult time and we ask that the public respect their right to privacy.
"I'd like to reassure the community that we swiftly arrested a suspect in connection with this tragic incident, and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances."

Restaurant owner speaks out after car smashes through window where food creators were filming
A Texas restaurant is open for business again after a vehicle came crashing through the eatery over the weekend. The incident occurred at around 4 p.m. on Saturday at Cuvee Culinary Creations in Houston, according to restaurant owner Ivory Watkins. Two content creators who were dining at the establishment narrowly missed being struck by the vehicle, unintentionally capturing shocking footage of the moment, which the restaurant later shared on its Instagram page. Nina Santiago, known online as Nina Unrated, was filming her YouTube series, "Nina Unrated Eats," alongside fellow content creator Patrick Blackwood when a driver in an SUV plowed through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows where they were seated, knocking over the table and scattering the dishes directly in front of them, according to the video footage. In the video, fellow patrons and restaurant staff can be seen in the background looking on in shock as Santiago and Blackwood scramble out of their seats. Santiago wrote in an Instagram post afterward that she was "beyond grateful to be alive." She shared several photos from inside an ambulance and the hospital where she and Blackwood were apparently treated for their injuries, which show cuts on their faces, necks, arms and hands. Santiago and Blackwood did not immediately respond to ABC News' requests for comment. Watkins described the incident as "a freak accident," telling ABC News he had just walked away from Santiago and Blackwood's table seconds prior to the moment of impact. "I was looking at my two customers and thinking, 'What is going on? This is crazy,'" he recalled. "We never know what God has in store for us -- I'm glad they're safe." Watkins said he called 911 as soon as the incident occurred, adding that the manager of the restaurant was quick to tend to Santiago and Blackwood in the immediate aftermath and helped provide care for their cuts and scrapes until paramedics arrived on the scene. Watkins said "police came out and did their due diligence" and a report was filed by the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The owner apologized for the incident, saying, "My job at my restaurant is to keep my guests safe. I fell short." "We were glad that we didn't have any more guests [at the time of the crash]," he added. "The main thing is everybody is safe." The restaurant's windows are currently boarded up, however Watkins was able to reopen for service on Sunday. He said the establishment has new safety measures in place, including two company vehicles and two employee vehicles that are parked in the parking spaces in front of the restaurant's window seating.

Donna Adelson trial Day 2 live updates: Court makes strides in jury selection
Jury selection resumes for a second day Aug. 20 in the murder trial of Donna Adelson, who is accused of helping to orchestrate the 2014 plot to kill Florida State University law professor Dan Markel. Roughly 300 people have been summoned for jury duty. Leon Circuit Judge Stephen Everett and lawyers for the state and defense are questioning each of the jurors individually behind closed doors as part of a pre-screening to find out how much media they have consumed about the case and whether that has affected their ability to serve as fair and impartial jurors. Jurors who have passed that test have been asked to return to the Leon County Courthouse at 11 a.m. Thursday for group jury selection, the last step before a final panel is picked. Just like the first day of jury selection, 50 potential jurors will be questioned in the morning and another 50 in the afternoon. On Aug. 19, 64 out of 102 potential jurors were asked to come back for group jury selection. Pretrial publicity has been a major issue raised by the defense in previous Markel trials. The defendant's son, Charlie Adelson, who was convicted in Markel's murder in 2023, claimed in his appellate brief filed in May that Everett erred by not granting a defense motion for a change of venue. Donna Adelson's attorneys also asked Everett to move the trial out of town, though he has declined so far to do so. Markel was shot in the head on July 18, 2014, after pulling into his garage of his Betton Hills home ― a shocking crime that happened as he and his ex-wife, Wendi Adelson, the defendant's daughter, were feuding in court over custody of their two sons. Cappleman said there are communications between Donna and Wendi Adelson about their last names before the name change occurred. Everett asked Cappleman to provide a copy of the communication. Israeli Official Arrested in Child Sex Sting Will Fight Charge: Attorney

A top Israeli government official arrested in an undercover child sex sting in Nevada intends to fight the charge despite having already left the U.S., his Las Vegas-based attorney told Newsweek Wednesday. Tom Artiom Alexandrovich, a 38-year-old senior official for Israel's National Cyber Directorate, was arrested on August 6 as part of a multiagency operation targeting alleged child sex predators. Police in Las Vegas announced details of the undercover sting on Friday. Alexandrovich and seven other suspects face a felony charge of luring a child with a computer for sex, Las Vegas police said. "He categorically received no special treatment as the bail set was standard and a bond was posted consistent with normal judicial procedures," Chesnoff told Newsweek. "Mr. Alexandrovich will meet all his court obligations consistent with the normal practices in the courts of Clark County, Nevada." U.S. State Department officials acknowledged Monday that the Israeli citizen did not claim diplomatic immunity and had been released by a state judge pending a court date before he left the country. "Any claims that the U.S. government intervened are false," State Department officials wrote on X. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson did not return immediately return inquiries seeking comment Wednesday, but he defended Alexandrovich's bail as "standard" during an interview Tuesday with the Review-Journal. "The standard bail for this charge was $10,000, so anybody, upon being booked on that charge, can post that bail and get released with no conditions, and that's what happened in this case," Wolfson told the newspaper. The other seven other suspects, who did not post bail immediately, appeared before a judge for a probable-cause review, Wolfson added. A law enforcement decoy who pretended to be a 15-year-old girl started talking to an individual with Alexandrovich's phone on the "Pure" dating application, as well as WhatsApp, on August 6, according to an arrest report obtained by the Review-Journal. The conversation then turned "sexual in nature," with the suspect allegedly agreeing to meet the undercover investigator and take her on a date to a Cirque du Soleil show, the arrest report shows. Alexandrovich later arrived in a rideshare at an undisclosed location where the meeting was supposed to occur, police said. Alexandrovich, who said he had worked for the Israeli government for roughly 14 years, faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. After waving his Miranda rights, Alexandrovich told federal agents he thought he was speaking to an 18-year-old woman as he attended a six-day Black Hat USA 2025 cybersecurity conference at the Mandalay Bay that ended on August 5, Las Vegas police said.
