CM Fadnavis chairs 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela prep meet, assures smooth arrangements
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Nashik on Sunday to chair a key preparatory meeting for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, slated to be held in 2027 and ensured that the grand event will be held smoothly.
The meeting was attended by seers from 13 prominent akharas along with representatives from various government agencies involved in planning the mega spiritual gathering.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Fadnavis said: "A meeting was organised regarding the Kumbh Mela, in which the 13 prominent Akharas were present. Saints, sadhus, and mahants all participated. We held discussions regarding the arrangements for the event."
He said that important aspects like event scheduling, infrastructure planning, crowd management, and the issue of pollution in the Godavari River were discussed in depth.
"The dates for the important events were also fixed, and the announcements regarding the same will soon be made…How to manage the crowd of pilgrims will also be seen. Godavari pollution was also discussed," he added.
Fadnavis further noted that every effort would be made to ensure that the 2027 Kumbh Mela is organised smoothly with a focus on cleanliness, convenience, and coordination among departments.
Mahant Rajendra Das Ji Maharaj of Abha Nirvani Akhara, also known as the Nirvani Akhara, stated that the date for the Amrit Snan would be declared soon.
Raising a significant cultural point, he echoed the demand of several seers to replace the term Shahi Snan with Amrit Snan.
Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad national spokesperson, Bhakti Charan Das Maharaj, said: "The recent decision follows the precedent set during the previous Kumbh Mela held in Prayagraj, where the term 'Shahi Snan' was replaced with 'Amrit Snan' after extensive discussions among scholars and saints."
"The word 'Shahi' is believed to have Mughal-era origins, and many experts agreed it was inappropriate in a spiritual context. The new term reflects Indian spiritual values more accurately," he said.
In the meeting, the seers also pressed for land reservations specific to the Nashik Kumbh Mela, stronger enforcement against pollution of the sacred Godavari, and the creation of a dedicated Kumbh Mela authority to ensure better amenities for saints and devotees.
Addressing reporters, Nirmohi Akhara's Rajendra Das Maharaj said, "We pray to the sacred Godavari River that this Kumbh Mela becomes grand and divine. The arrangements of Amrit Snan and other requirements were discussed with the Chief Minister."
The 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik is expected to witness participation from millions of pilgrims and saints, like as seen in the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh this year.

Maharashtra Govt to modify livestock panel's order for halt on animal markets: Opposition
Even as Opposition MLAs claimed the Maharashtra government on Monday has withdrawn a May 27 circular sent to all Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) not to hold any livestock market from June 3 to 8 ahead of Eid al-Adha, commonly known as Bakri Eid, the Maharashtra Goseva Ayog, which issued the directive, denied it has been withdrawn. 'One of the first agendas of our meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was this circular. We were told at the beginning by the animal husbandry secretary that the government has withdrawn the circular,' said Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Sheikh, after attending a meeting with the CM along with several other MLAs on the preparedness for upcoming Bakri Eid festival. Congress MLA Amin Patel, who was present at the meeting, said the demand has been accepted. 'It was conveyed that a new modified order will be issued,' said Patel. The Indian Express on June 1 reported that in a May 27 circular sent to all APMCs, the Maharashtra Goseva Ayog said in light of the upcoming Bakri Eid festival, when large-scale animal slaughter/ sacrifice is carried out, no livestock markets should be held in villages across districts from June 3-8 to ensure that no illegal slaughter of bovines takes place. 'Please stay vigilant in this matter,' it said, referencing the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, which enforces a complete ban on the slaughter of bovine animals (cow progeny) in the state. Despite the Opposition's claim, Maharashtra Goseva Ayog chairman Shekhar Mundada, however, denied withdrawing the circular. 'We have not withdrawn the circular. But we work only around preventing cow slaughter. We have nothing to do about other animals,' said Mundada. A highly placed source in the state government said the ban was never on goat meat and the circular is being modified. 'The state has strictly imposed a ban on cow slaughter which continues. But as far as goat or other animals are concerned, there was never a ban on it,' said a senior government official. N Ramaswami, secretary, animal husbandry department, could not be contacted for comment despite several attempts. Maharashtra has 305 principal and 603 secondary APMCs, and these are regulated by the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board under the APMC Act. There are 292 livestock markets functioning in Maharashtra, and almost all are regulated by the APMCs.

Raut: CM, dy CMs indifferent to people's issues in the state
Nashik: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut criticized chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar on Monday, stating they show lack of concern to the public and state matters. During his visit to Nashik on Monday, Raut addressed journalists, highlighting the BJP-led Maharashtra govt's prolonged delay in conducting civic elections, which have been pending for nearly three years. He raised concerns about administrative corruption in civic bodies and noted the deteriorating road conditions in Nashik and other cities awaiting civic polls due to the absence of elected representatives. "Now, civic elections are being held in the state after a Supreme Court directive on holding the polls," said Raut. He noted while CM Fadnavis conducted a Kumbh Mela meeting in Nashik, he failed to assess the city's road conditions, despite adopting the city following the 2017 civic polls. Raut proposed that CM Fadnavis, who began a two-day Nashik visit on Sunday, should inspect the city's roads alongside two former corporators from each political party. This suggestion aimed to provide the chief minister with direct insight into Nashik's urgent infrastructure challenges. Responding to deputy CM Ajit Pawar's statement regarding ineligible Ladki Bahin scheme beneficiaries facing no consequences, Raut alleged that beneficiary verification was deliberately overlooked to secure votes during state assembly elections. He called for deputy CM Ajit Pawar's resignation, citing deliberate inclusion of ineligible beneficiaries in Ladki Bahin scheme to gain electoral advantage in the previous year's state assembly elections.

At CM meet, push for Deonar abattoir upgrade
Mumbai: Five days ahead of Bakr Eid, CM Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting on Monday to review preparations. The need for modernisation of the BMC-run Deonar abattoir, including building permanent sheds, was discussed. "We reiterated our demand to modernise the abattoir. Given the services the abattoir renders and the huge amount govt earns from it, it is desirable that the abattoir is modernised and its infrastructure improved. Everyone agreed that the abattoir should be kept clean and hygienic," said Congress MLA Amin Patel, who was among the attendees. The rush at the abattoir and animal markets across the state is expected to increase in the run-up to Bakr Eid on June 7. Officials were told to be alert and stop anti-social elements from creating trouble. BMC and police officials spoke of the steps being taken to maintain law and order during the festival. "The law and order situation in Maharashtra is always well maintained during festivals. Similarly, for the upcoming Eid, the govt has made proper arrangements. I have instructed all relevant agencies to work in coordination to maintain law and order during this period," Fadnavis said after the meeting. Earlier, Patel, MP and city Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad, MLA Aslam Shaikh and many corporators visited the Deonar abattoir and met officials and animal traders there. There are complaints that vehicles carrying goats, sheep and buffaloes are made to wait for long outside the gate before being allowed entry. tnn
