South Asian neighbours Nepal and Bhutan were among eight nations honoured in the 2024 edition of the ICC Development Awards, cricket's governing body announced during its annual board meeting on Sunday.
USA Cricket received the ICC Associate Member Men's Team Performance of the Year award for their achievements in the past year, which included qualifying for the Super Eight of the T20 World Cup hosted by the USA and the West Indies.
Their victories against Canada and the historic win against Pakistan led to the elimination of Babar Azam's team from the competition, bringing the tournament into the spotlight of mainstream American television and news.
Besides the USA, Bhutan and Nepal, other nations receiving awards were Indonesia, Namibia, Scotland, Tanzania, and Vanuatu.
Fifteen associate member nations were shortlisted for the awards.
Cricket Namibia won the ICC Development Initiative of the Year award for their Ashburton Kwata Mini-Cricket Programme, the country's flagship grassroots development initiative.
For the first time, the ICC Female Cricket Initiative of the Year award will be shared by two Members – Bhutan Cricket Council Board and Vanuatu Cricket Association.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) received the ICC Digital Fan Engagement of the Year award. Their strategic expansion across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, and their newly launched CAN Domestic Facebook accounts resulted in a total reach of approximately 117 million.
ICC chairman Jay Shah said: 'It is a pleasure to announce the global winners of the ICC Development Awards. This is a celebration of global exceptionalism, with all winners deserving the accolades they have received in their mission to grow the game in emerging nations."

KL Rahul Joins Tendulkar & Gavaskar In Elite List, Becomes 4th Indian To...
KL Rahul is playing as an opening batter for India in the fourth Test against England, and during the 1st session of Day 1's play, he completed 1000 Test runs in England. KL Rahul is playing as an opening batter for India in the fourth Test against England, which kicked off at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday (July 23). During the first session of the first day's play, Rahul entered his name in the record books by becoming the fourth Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid to score 1000 Test runs against England in England. The ongoing match in Manchester is Rahul's 13th Test for India in England. He needed 11 runs on Wednesday to join the 1000-run club, and he achieved the objective by scoring a four on the fourth of the seventh over of India's first innings bowled by Chris Woakes. Dravid, who led India to a famous Test series win in England in 2007, finished his career with 1376 runs in 13 Tests played on English soil, whereas in 16 Tests played in England, Gavaskar scored 1152 runs. Virat Kohli also scored more than 1000 Test runs in England, but the former India captain, who announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 12, 2025, played one match each against New Zealand (in June 2021) and Australia (in June 2023) as well on English soil in addition to 15 against England. Most Test runs for India in England If Rahul, who has scored two centuries in the ongoing matches, manages to score at least 28 runs in the ongoing match, then he will become the second Indian opener after Gavaskar to score 1000 Test runs in England. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Agency: PTI Last Updated: Ayrshire (Scotland), Jul 23 (PTI) After recovering from an injury sustained in May, Indian golfer Pranavi Urs returns to action at the USD 2 million ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open beginning at the Dundonald Links here on Thursday. Other Indians in the field are the in-form Diksha Dagar and Tvesa Malik. Rookie Avani Prashanth and Hitaashee Bakshi failed to make the field. Pranavi, who won the Hero Women's Order of Merit in India in 2022 with five victories in a single season, has been a regular on the Ladies European Tour, where she was the top Indian in 2024. This season, after some good finishes in Top-15 at the Ford NSW Open in Australia and Investec SA Women's Open, she played and made the cut a Aramco Korea, but hurt her wrist. It got so bad that she withdrew after the first round in the following week at the Dutch Ladies Open. That was in mid-May and she has not played since then. She is now 81st on the Order of Merit. Diksha has been having a good season that began with a runner-up finish at the Lalla Meryem Cup. She had four other Top-10 finishes and two more in Top-15. She is lying 13th on the Money List. Pranavi plays with Kim Metraux of Switzerland and Spain's Fatima Fernandez Cano in the morning, while Diksha tees off with Miranda Wang of China and Korea's Sei Young Kim in the afternoon. Tvesa will play alongside China's Weiwei Zhang and Norwegian Dorthea Forbrigd. The 2025 ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open at Dundonald Links is the ninth edition of the tournament since it became co-sanctioned with the LPGA Tour and the fourth consecutive year that Dundonald has hosted. A field of 144 players representing 32 nationalities will compete in a 72-hole stroke play competition with a cut to the top 65 players and ties after 36 holes. The field is split between the LET and LPGA with players from both Tours competing for a slice of the USD 2 million prize fund. Four past champions will be teeing it up with Lauren Coughlin (2024), Ayaka Furue (2022), Ariya Jutanugarn (2018) and Mi Hyang Lee (2017) all in the field. Three of the major champions from 2025 are also in Scotland with Sweden's Maja Stark, who won the U.S. Women's Open presented by Ally, playing as well as Australian duo of Minjee Lee and Grace Kim. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma's 2027 World Cup Dream Difficult, Ex-India Star Gives MS Dhoni's Example
India stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bowed out of T20I cricket after guiding the team to the T20 World Cup title in 2024. That trophy ended India's 11-year-old ICC title drought. Later, the duo also called time on their respective Test careers in May this year, leaving the fans heartbroken. However, both the players are still active in the ODIs and aim to play the ODI World Cup in 2027 and help India clinch the trophy. However, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh feels that it will be quite difficult for them to play in the prestigious ICC tournament. Harbhajan stated that after retiring from two formats, it becomes difficult to maintain a good performance, especially for a tournament like World Cup. "It's too far, actually. It's been a very long time, and they are not playing any other formats. It becomes very difficult for anyone, no matter how much commitment you have or how big a great you are," Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel. "If you do not play the game continuously, somewhere the game moves ahead and you are left behind," he added. He went on to give an example of former India skipper MS Dhoni, who did not feature in international cricket after India's exit from the 2019 World Cup. Harbhajan called out Dhoni for his batting struggles in the IPL. "It will be hard. We have seen MS Dhoni playing in the IPL. Look at his performance in the last three years," he said. You see the difference between this Dhoni and the Dhoni from six years ago when he was playing for India consistently," Harbhajan added. Earlier, former BCCI selector Jatin Paranjpe revealed a conversation with Rohit Sharma, where the latter had expressed his desire of playing Test cricket for India. "I remember he was not playing Test cricket for India. And we had this conversation, and he said, 'I started playing cricket with a red ball, Jatin. How can you say that I am not interested in Test cricket?' I got the message, and I was hoping that that was what he would say," Paranjpe said on 'A Century of Stories' podcast with Cyrus Broacha.
