Image: USA Cricket USA wicketkeeper-batter Smit Patel scored his maiden international century during his team's clinical 169-run victory over neighbours Canada in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 on Saturday. Smit remained unbeaten on 152 off 137 deliveries and shared an unbroken 208-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Milind Kumar (115 not out off 67 balls) as the Americans posted a commanding 361/3 on the board after skipper Monank Patel opted to bat in Lauderhill, Florida. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Left-arm spinner Sanjay Krishnamurthi later collected 3/10 while the trio of Harmeet Singh (2/38), Milind Kumar (2/40) and Nosthush Kenjige (2/41) collected a couple of wickets each as the Canadians were bundled out for 192 in reply, with Mansab Gill (54 not out) the only one from their batting lineup to cross 50. Smit posted his first international century less than a year after making his debut for the United States, having scored 457 runs in 13 ODI appearances at an average of 41.54 since then, besides playing a couple of T20Is. A third of those runs were scored in Saturday's outing at the Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium. Our Player of the Match for today's match vs Canada for his sensational work with the bat! 🏏 🔥 Congrats, Smit! 🎉#USAvCAN | #CWCL2 🇺🇸 — USA Cricket (@usacricket) May 17, 2025 Who is Smit Patel? Smit is one of several members of the American team of Indian heritage – either born to Indian parents in the US or grew up in India before settling in America. Quite a few of them began their cricketing journey in India and rose up the ranks before moving US to fulfill their dream of playing international cricket due to their inability to break into the Indian senior team. And Smit isn't just someone who began his cricketing journey in India, for he helped his country win the World Cup – albeit at the U-19 level. The 32-year-old, after all, was part of the Unmukt Chand-led Indian team that won the 2012 U-19 World Cup by defeating hosts Australia in the final. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD USA teammate Harmeet too was part of that squad, and the two were in the XI in the final, in which Smit struck an unbeaten 62 and stitched an unbeaten 130-run stand with skipper Unmukt (111 not out) as India chased down the 226-run target set by the Aussies with six wickets and more than two overs to spare.

India's 2012 U19 World Cup Winner Scores Maiden International Hundred At 32 For USA

Last Updated: Smit Patel has scored his maiden international century for USA against Canada in ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, leading USA to a 169-run win. Star wicketkeeper-batter Smit Patel, who was part of India's 2012 U-19 World Cup-winning squad, on Saturday, May 17, scored his maiden international hundred while representing the United States of America against Canada in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tournament. Smit, who represented Goa, Tripura, Gujarat and Baroda before leaving for the US, was India's second-highest run-scorer in the 2012 U19 World Cup, having scored 178 runs in six matches at a stunning average of 59.33. Much like his U19 captain, Unmukt Chand, Smit later moved to the USA in search of greener pastures. A classy knock from Smit Patel to bring up a 💯 for #TeamUSA! 🤩 #USAvCAN | #CWCL2 — USA Cricket (@usacricket) May 17, 2025 On Saturday, USA skipper Monank Patel won the toss and opted to bat first. Andries Gous departed in the third over, but Smit and the captain built a 78-run partnership for the second wicket, before the latter was dismissed by Saad bin Zafar. Smit and 21-year-old Saiteja Mukkamalla then added 63 runs for the third wicket, before the latter was dismissed by Zafar. Smit and former Delhi allrounder Milind Kumar (115) then built a match-winning 208-run partnership for the fourth wicket to put up a whopping 361 on the board, virtually knocking Canada out of the game. The partnership was one short of the USA's highest stand for any wicket in ODIs. Smit remained unbeaten on 152. After scoring a half-century, his next 50 runs came off 41 deliveries, bringing up a hundred off 110 balls, his first three-figure score in international cricket. Before this game, Smit had played 12 ODIs and two T20Is, scoring two fifties and registering a highest score of 70. Smit's next 27 deliveries yielded 52 runs and he finished on an unbeaten 152 off 137 balls, the third-highest individual score by a USA batter in ODIs. In the chase, Canada lost skipper Navneet Dhaliwal in the sixth over, but Yuvraj Samra and Pargat Singh built a 57-run partnership for the second wicket, before the former was dismissed by former Mumbai allrounder Harmeet Singh. Canada were soon reduced to 104/5, but Mansab Gill and Parveen Kumar added 70 runs for the sixth wicket, before the latter was dismissed by 21-year-old Sanjay Krishnamurthi. With the youngster picking three wickets, Canada were bowled out for 192, handing USA a massive 169-run win. Watch CNN-News18 here.
