Nov 4 decision on Chegubard's sedition case defence
Judge Norma Ismail scheduled the date after deputy public prosecutor Nursyuhada Husna Sulaiman confirmed the prosecution had closed its case.
'The court has set Sept 9 for written submissions, Oct 9 for counter-submissions, and Nov 4 for the decision,' said the judge.
Badrul Hisham, represented by counsel Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, faces charges over remarks allegedly tarnishing the King's reputation.
Four prosecution witnesses, including an Istana Negara complainant and MCMC officers, testified since the trial began on May 16.
The 45-year-old, known as Chegubard, was charged on April 29, 2024, under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
The offence carries a maximum two-year jail term, a fine, or both if convicted. - Bernama

Woman pleads not guilty to attempted murder of policeman in KL
KUALA LUMPUR: A woman has pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to attempting to murder a police officer by ramming her car into him earlier this month. Cham Shan Jer, 31, allegedly struck Cpl Muhamad Fahrulradi Sabran at Jalan Usahawan 6, Setapak, around 11.15 pm on Aug 1. She faces charges under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine. If convicted of causing injury, the sentence could extend to 20 years. Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Ikhwan Mohd Nasir opposed bail, citing the severity of the case involving an attack on a police officer. Defence lawyer Nurul Fatihah Abdul Ghani requested bail, stating her client is a single mother of three who also supports elderly parents. 'My client is a single mother. Former MP assistant arrested for unauthorised video upload in Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a former personal assistant of an MP for uploading a video without authorisation. The suspect, aged 43, was detained in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, following a complaint from the MP. Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail confirmed the arrest occurred at 11.30 am last Friday. The MP discovered the unauthorised video on a Facebook account named 'Mohd Syahrizal' on July 30. Negative comments on the post reportedly caused distress to the MP, affecting their reputation and mental state. 'The post resulted in negative comments by other Facebook users that stressed the individual and affected their reputation and psychological state,' said Mohd Azam. The MP reportedly felt threatened by the potential consequences of the video being shared. Police seized a Samsung and a Vivo mobile phone from the suspect as part of the investigation. The suspect has been remanded for four days, starting from August 9. The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code. Authorities are also applying Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. Additionally, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 is being invoked in the probe. - Bernama
