Peacock's 'The Office' spinoff just got its first trailer — and now I'm concerned
We first learned about the forthcoming sitcom back in May, and the "The Paper" release date followed in mid-July, but this trailer finally gives us a glimpse at the series in action. Check it out below:
I know it's tough to judge a show by its trailer, but I don't think this sells the show as a must-watch comedy.
I'm a big fan of Tim Key's work (seek out "The Ballad of Wallis Island," if you haven't), so seeing him involved is a big plus for me, but I'd be lying if I said "The Paper" trailer was the funniest thing I've ever seen.
The opening "order of quality" line got a quick laugh from me, as did Oscar's brief crash-out at the end, but otherwise, it makes for a pretty bland watch. It's not exactly making me want to bump it to the top of my watchlist.
It is just a trailer, though, so I don't want to judge it too harshly. We're yet to get to know any of these new characters (apart from Oscar, obviously) or what makes them tick.
Plus, the fact that "The Office" co-creator Greg Daniels is on board (teamed with "Nathan For You" co-creator Michael Koman) is promising, and several fans on YouTube also point back to the first season of "The Office" not being the show's strongest outing, too.

Thus, I'm concerned, but I'm going to remain optimistic that there's still a chance the new show is a worthy "The Office" successor between now and its premiere.
As a reminder, "The Paper" is getting a four-episode premiere on Peacock on Thursday. September 4, with new episodes airing Thursdays through to the finale on September 25.
Peacock previously released a full series synopsis for "The Paper," though it doesn't give too much away about what's in store.
It reads: "The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch in the Emmy Award-winning series 'The Office' find a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it."
Across its run, "The Office" boasted a ton of great stars, and "The Paper" looks to be no different. The main cast includes Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, and "The Office" alum, Oscar Nuñez.
NBC's also confirmed the guest stars for the season. Expect to see Eric Rahill, Tracy Letts, Milly Ephraim, Mo Welch, Allan Harvey, Duane Shepard Sr., Nate Jackson and Nancy Lenehan popping up at some point in the new show. And, of course, it features the same documentary crew that filmed all the chaos back in Scranton.

Jamie Lee Curtis is slamming a negative review of her new movie "Freakier Friday." After Time magazine posted an Instagram caption with its film critic Stephanie Zacharek's take on the beloved 2003 film's sequel (in theaters now), the Oscar winner slammed the reviewer's opinion. The Aug. 8 caption said Zacharek wrote that "no one, as far as we know, actually asked Disney for a sequel to 2003's buoyant, surprisingly unsyrupy generation-gap comedy 'Freaky Friday.'" In response, Curtis commented that the review "SEEMS a TAD HARSH. SOME people LOVE it. Me being one." Fashion designer Brandon Maxwell defended the film in the comments, writing "I really loved this movie ❤️" while online travel agency Expedia joked that Zacharek's review "sounds like someone needs a vacation 👀 May we suggest a digital detox to Nantucket spending your day taking in charming streets and peaceful beaches?" "And it appears to exist largely for one reason: to grift off the fondness many adults have for the original, even though the sequel has none of that picture's breezy, observant charm," she added. In a recent interview with USA TODAY, the 66-year-old Curtis opened up about returning to her matriarchal character over 20 years later. "There was no possible way we could have done a sequel to 'Freaky Friday' until Lindsay (who is 39) was old enough chronologically to be the mother of a 15-year-old," Curtis said. "So this just needed a time to cook." Curtis realized Lohan had finally aged into the role during the release of "Halloween Ends" in 2022. "I counted on my fingers, and I was like, 'How old is she?'" Curtis said. "I think she was 35 at the time. I was like: 'Oh, wait a minute! She could've had a baby at 20!' Tom Hanks pays tribute to Apollo 13 commander Jim Lovell
"God speed you, on this next voyage, Jim Lovell.' 0:39 Tom Hanks took to Instagram to remember Jim Lovell, the astronaut he portrayed in the 1995 Ron Howard–directed film "Apollo 13." Lovell, best known for commanding the near-disastrous Apollo 13 mission, died Thursday, Aug. 7, at age 97. In a statement posted to Instagram, the Oscar-winning actor reflected on Lovell's extraordinary life. "There are people who dare, who dream, and who lead others to the places we would not go on our own," Hanks wrote. "Jim Lovell, who for a long while had gone farther into space and for longer than any other person of our planet, was that kind of guy." Hanks praised Lovell's dedication to exploration, noting that his missions were not motivated by fame or fortune but by "the challenges that fuel the course of being alive." The actor closed his tribute with a nod to the timing of Lovell's passing: "On this night of a full moon, he passes on -- to the heavens, to the cosmos, to the stars. God speed you, on this next voyage, Jim Lovell." Howard also praised the late astronaut, saying "simply knowing" the astronaut was an honor. Jordon Hudson cold-called podcast host and it didn't end well: ‘Save her from herself'
You never know when Jordon Hudson may be on the other line and ready to strike up a conversation. That's what podcaster Charlotte Wilder found out a few weeks ago after Bill Belichick's polarizing 24-year-old girlfriend apparently cold-called her after their relationship was frequently discussed on Wilder and co-host Madison Hill's 'The Sports Gossip Show.' Toby Canham for NY Post The chat began at 9:07 p.m. on a Saturday when Hudson began the call by announcing herself as 'the president of your universe', Wilder revealed on the latest episode of the show. The 'president' line was a reference to a remark the hosts made during a show focused on Hudson competing in the Miss Maine pageant – which the phone conversation was focused on. Wilder added that her husband thought she was getting pranked, but it was really Hudson. Wilder was left unsure what the point of Hudson's call was, describing her as talking in circles and using the phrase 'word salad' to discuss Hudson's message. Hill eventually got involved and the trio has since engaged in multiple FaceTime calls together. 'She would oscillate between like friendly, but there was clearly like an edge to her voice where she kind of wanted to let me have it,' Wilder said of their initial conversation. Hudson even told them she would consider traveling to New York to do an in-person interview with them, but that got shut down the day the chat was supposed to happen. MEGA Hudson, whose relationship with the legendary coach was revealed in June 2024, has been a lightning rod for controversy as Belichick is set to begin his first season as the head football coach at the University of North Carolina. The eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach has had to make it clear numerous times that Hudson does not 'have anything to do with UNC football,' but handled some of his business ordeals outside of that after a disastrous 'CBS Sunday Morning' interview in April. Hudson and Belchick continue to make headlines with the Tar Heels set to open their season against TCU on Sept. 1. The players have insisted the relationship is not a distraction and they appreciate the 'support' from Hudson, but never really see her in the building.
