IGP warns of foreign operatives threat, urges caution for Palestinians in Malaysia
In a statement today, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) remains fully committed to protecting national security and sovereignty amid suspected foreign interference.
'There have been incidents reported and investigated by PDRM believed to have been orchestrated by foreign intelligence entities,' he said.
'Among them are two cases: one involving the kidnapping of a Palestinian national, and another involving the possession of six firearms — both allegedly linked to foreign operatives.'
Mohd Khalid said police are closely monitoring the entry of foreign nationals, working in coordination with key agencies such as the Immigration Department, the Border Control and Protection Agency and Interpol.
'The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) remains vigilant in its efforts to prevent and address various external threats that could jeopardise national security,' he said.
'This includes any agendas driven by foreign intelligence agencies that may attempt to interfere with or undermine the country's stability and sovereignty.'
The IGP also advised Palestinians living in Malaysia to maintain a low profile to avoid being targeted.
'Palestinians are advised to maintain a low profile to avoid becoming targeted individuals, and to report any suspicious activity to the police,' he said in the statement.
As part of its long-term strategy, he added that PDRM is strengthening cooperation with both local and international agencies through continuous intelligence sharing.
'PDRM is also engaged in strategic collaboration with relevant government agencies involved in national security through continuous exchange of information and perspectives at both national and international levels,' he said in the statement.
The IGP's statement underscores Malaysia's broader concern over foreign actors operating within its borders, particularly in light of heightened geopolitical tensions and covert activity in the region.
'PDRM remains committed to ensuring the security of Malaysia and the wellbeing of its people,' he added.

Three more cases involved online retailers and distributors, which faced fines between 500,000 and seven million baht.

Girl, 7, dies after motorcycle ridden by 11-year-old sister collides with van in Tanah Merah
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — A seven-year-old girl died after the motorcycle ridden by her 11-year-old sister collided with a van on the Tanah Merah–Pasir Mas road near Kampung Bukit Merah in Tanah Merah, Kelantan yesterday. In the 6.30pm incident, the victim, Nur Irdina Aulia Zainudin, who was riding pillion, succumbed to her injuries at 8.30pm while receiving treatment at Tanah Merah Hospital. Tanah Merah district police chief Superintendent Mohd Haki Hasbullah said preliminary investigations showed the motorcycle had exited a junction near a tyre shop and entered the main road. 'It then collided with a van travelling from Tanah Merah towards Pasir Mas,' he said. Nur Irdina Aulia sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital but died two hours later. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police: Sleep-deprived driver believed to have dozed off at the wheel before UPM crash in Serdang (VIDEO)
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — Driver fatigue and lack of sleep are believed to have caused the bus crash at Jalan Persiaran Universiti 1 in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Serdang yesterday. Serdang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad confirmed the findings, citing investigations into the incident involving a bus carrying pupils and teachers from Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (Pasti) Ampang. 'Investigations revealed that the driver was sleep-deprived and is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel while driving along the route. 'However, preliminary screening found that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol,' he said in a statement today. Earlier, it was reported that a teacher and three Pasti Ampang pupils sustained injuries after the bus collided with a tree within the UPM campus. The incident occurred at 12.18pm while the bus, carrying five accompanying teachers and 30 pupils, was en route from a chocolate factory to the G2G Animal Garden at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (Maeps). Dashcam footage capturing the crash has since circulated widely on social media. Farid added that the bus driver has been remanded for two days to assist investigations under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987. Checks also revealed that the driver has 13 previous traffic summonses registered under his name. Meanwhile, Road Transport Department (JPJ) Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the department will carry out a Safety Inspection and Audit (JISA) on the bus operator. 'JPJ will conduct a JISA on the operator and take further action once the audit findings are available,' he said when contacted by media earlier today.
