Two Punjab Police DGPs retire from service
Kumar, a 1993-batch IPS officer, served as head of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau and also held the charge of intelligence chief in this Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government, but was abruptly removed as vigilance chief last year.
Though considered close to chief minister Bhagwant Mann, he was posted as DGP, Human Rights Commission, a low-key posting.

Chandrashekhar, 1994-batch IPS, who was posted as special DGP, Human Rights, also served as director, Bureau of Investigation (BOI), during the previous Congress government, besides serving on various other important positions in his career.
With the retirement of these two officers, Punjab Police now has 18 DGP-rank officers. One Punjab-cadre IPS Parag Jain, from the 1989 batch, was recently appointed as the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief.

BJP to protest against Rahul ‘s election fraud remarks on August 5
Bengaluru: Accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of insulting voters with his statements about alleged election fraud, BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra announced that the party will stage a protest on August 5 near the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Vidhana Soudha. The demonstration will be followed by a delegation meeting with the Governor to submit a formal complaint. Speaking to the press at BJP's state office, Jagannath Bhavan, Vijayendra slammed Rahul Gandhi for attempting political theatrics in Bengaluru on August 5. He alleged that Gandhi's remarks on electoral malpractice not only undermine democratic institutions like the Election Commission but also amount to an insult to the people of Karnataka and the nation. 'All BJP MPs, MLAs, MLCs, former legislators, and party leaders will participate in this protest. Through this, we aim to expose Congress' deceitful political narrative to the public,' Vijayendra declared. He further criticized the Congress-led state government, accusing it of making special arrangements for Gandhi's visit by breaking down a compound wall and cutting down trees at Freedom Park to accommodate the Congress rally. 'Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah owe an apology to the people of the state for this,' he asserted. Vijayendra went on to accuse the Congress party of promoting a baseless and dangerous narrative. He said the party had launched a 'new wave of confusion' in Karnataka and across the country, with Rahul Gandhi making repeated, unsubstantiated claims about electoral fraud in various states, including Karnataka. Referring to Gandhi's claim of possessing '100 percent proof' of electoral irregularities, Vijayendra questioned why neither Gandhi nor any Congress leaders had approached the High Court or the Supreme Court with these alleged proofs. 'Instead of legal recourse, they choose to malign the credibility of the Election Commission. This is nothing but a drama born out of desperation,' he said. Taking a sharp dig, Vijayendra said, 'Rahul Gandhi is politically bankrupt and directionless. His leadership is like a missile without guidance. After facing humiliating defeats, he has begun blaming constitutional institutions, undermining public trust, and launching a deceptive campaign.' The BJP's protest on August 5 is being positioned as a counter to Gandhi's planned rally on the same day, which the Congress has called to highlight alleged vote rigging in the Mahadevapura constituency during the last Lok Sabha elections.

Hamas refutes Steve Witkoff's statement on disarmament, vows to continue fighting IDF
Gaza, Aug 2 (UNI) Refuting a reported statement by the US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, that Hamas had decided to lay down its arms in Gaza, the organisation said it would not disarm 'as long as the occupation exists.' The terror group vowed to continue its violent struggle, claiming its fight to deliver Palestine its 'national rights' were realised and supported by international law, adding 'foremost among them… the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty and Jerusalem as its capital.' Hamas went on to slam Witkoff's visit to the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation run by Israel and the US, amid reports of starvation in the region, and that hundreds of Palestinian aid seekers had been killed near the agency's four distribution sites in the south and center of the enclave since they started operating in mid-May, reports Times of Israel. 'The American administration is a full partner in the crime of starvation and genocide,' said Hamas. It added that Witkoff's visit was 'nothing more than a pre-arranged theatrical performance' to provide Israel with 'political cover for managing starvation and continuing the systematic killing of children and unarmed civilians from our people.' Condemning Washington, the terror group called on the White House 'to bear its historical responsibility by lifting the cover from the crime of the century in Gaza and moving toward a ceasefire agreement that leads to ending the aggression.' Israel on the other hand has completely denied reports of deliberately starving anyone in Gaza or stopping international aid to the residents of the war-torn region, accusing Hamas of instead of seizing all aid and using Gazans as human shields and as tools for propagating its rhetoric. GHF, which seeks to circumvent Hamas in the distribution of aid, launched its operations in May, sidelining the longstanding UN-led humanitarian system just as Israel was beginning to ease a more than two-month aid blockade it had imposed on Gaza. However, there has been a drastic death toll near its aid centres, amid Hamas' constant attacks in the area and their skirmishes with the IDF, with Jerusalem also acknowledging the casualties.

Delhi rains today: Intense showers bringing relief from humidity; cause waterlogging in several areas
Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Delhi on Sunday morning, bringing relief from humidity but also leading to waterlogging in various areas across the national capital. Areas including Vijay Chowk, Connaught Place, Minto Bridge, Sarojini Nagar, AIIMS, and Panchkuian Marg witnessed intense showers. Rainfall was also reported in areas such as Janpath, Lajpat Nagar and the Minto Bridge, a day after heavy showers affected routine life across parts of the city. "Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by light thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to occur at NCR (Bahadurgarh, Manesar). Light rainfall is very likely to occur over the entire Delhi-NCR, including Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ballabhgarh," the IMD said in a post on social media platform X. On July 29, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal criticised the BJP-led government in Delhi, headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, over persistent waterlogging issues in the capital. Kejriwal shared a purported video of waterlogging at Connaught Place, questioning the performance of what he termed the "four-engine" government. In a post on social media X, Kejriwal remarked that it was "hard" to believe the conditions of the heart of Delhi, Connaught Place. "When this is the condition of Connaught Place, the heart of Delhi, it's not hard to imagine the state of the rest of Delhi. Just 10 minutes of rain and the roads have turned into ponds. In 5 months, where has the BJP brought Delhi to? Is this the speed of the '4-engine' government?" Kejriwal's post read. The heavy rain in the national capital has led to widespread waterlogging, inconveniencing residents and office-goers alike. On the same day, AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj also took a swipe at Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma over their earlier claims of effective waterlogging control measures.
