A Bachelorette, a Ballroom Dancer and a ‘Traitor' Walk Into a Bar

New York Times20-02-2025

'My boob is hanging out, what's new,' Gabby Windey said, reaching a manicured hand into her bandeau top and tucking her left breast back into place.
Perched on a bar stool sipping a tequila soda in fishnets and heels, she balanced a real fur coat over her shoulders. 'It's vintage, it's vintage,' she said. 'I hope it was owned by like Sylvia Plath or somebody else really depressed like me.'
It was a chilly Monday night at Cubbyhole, a lesbian bar in the West Village of Manhattan, just a few days after Chrishell Stause, a real estate agent from 'Selling Sunset' with whom Ms. Windey had formed an alliance on the reality TV show 'The Traitors,' was eliminated.
Secluded to a 19th-century castle in the Scottish Highlands with their eccentrically dressed host, the actor Alan Cumming, the show's contestants try to suss out who in their midst is secretly (but not literally) offing them in their sleep.
Within the first few episodes of this season, Ms. Windey won over fans with her droll, deadly serious affect that many have compared to Jennifer Coolidge's. Like Ms. Coolidge in her best-known role of late on 'The White Lotus,' Ms. Windey can be underestimated by some — but that's a useful position to be in on a reality TV show predicated on deception and deflection.
'I can gaslight the hell out of anybody — but then, I don't know if I can really backstab,' she tells a confused Mr. Cumming. 'But I'd also be a good faithful because I'm loyal as hell.'
The cast of 'The Traitors' is composed of many reality TV veterans, from franchises including 'The Real Housewives,' 'Vanderpump Rules,' 'RuPaul's Drag Race,' 'Big Brother' and 'The Challenge.'
Ms. Windey, who is 34 but was hesitant to say so, is right at home among them, in a sense. Though she's been on television for only about three years, she has already been through the reality gauntlet.
A California-born former N.F.L. cheerleader for the Denver Broncos and a nurse who worked on the front lines during the Covid-19 pandemic, Ms. Windey traded pompoms and nasal swabs for roses in 2022 when she joined the cast of the 'The Bachelor.' She was the runner-up, which led her to a titular role on 'The Bachelorette' the next season, and a proposal and diamond ring.
But after a stint on 'Dancing with the Stars' (she came in second), Ms. Windey came out as a lesbian, ditching the fiancé and announcing a new relationship with a woman in an interview on 'The View.'
'It's miserable. They're all terrible,' Ms. Windey said of her various reality television experiences. 'This one' — referring to 'The Traitors,' which she filmed back in June — 'is the most fun to watch back, though.'
Still, Ms. Windey seems to find it somewhat improbable that she's landed there. A self-described bad liar with 'the memory of the goldfish,' Ms. Windey says she does not take naturally to the show's mind games.
'I'm not a strategic person; I'm normal. I don't have a personality disorder,' Ms. Windey said. 'I'm like, 'Does this come out in your relationships, or are you constantly refraining day in and day out not to manipulate the people that you're surrounded by?''
Early on, she aligned herself with a group of female contestants on the show, nicknamed 'The Bambis' for their collective doe-eyed nature. Among them was Ms. Stause of 'Selling Sunset,' whom Ms. Windey described as a 'pioneer for the lesbians.' (Ms. Stause, who was previously married to a man, married the nonbinary musician G Flip in 2023.)
There is a group chat where the women talk trash, Ms. Windey said, using an expletive. This season, the show's arguments, physical challenges and votes have regularly split along gendered lines.
This divide has made certain moments more delicious, she said, like watching Tony Vlachos, a police officer and former 'Survivor' contestant, cry after being eliminated.
'Watching a grown man break down over a murder mystery game could cure the patriarchy,' Ms. Windey said.
A woman walking by the bar stepped inside to ask for a photo after recognizing Ms. Windey through the window. Others drinking inside eyed her from across the room.
'She was very herself,' said Hannah Figurski, who identified herself as a fan of Ms. Windey's from her 'Bachelor' days. 'I'm kind of a weirdo, so I liked that she wasn't afraid to be who she is.'
Ms. Windey lives in Los Angeles, but she had been to Cubbyhole once before, she said, when she came into town to shoot her segment on 'The View' in 2023. She and her girlfriend, the comedian Robby Hoffman, stopped by the bar to celebrate afterward.
'I didn't want a huge interview because what more is there to say when you're gay other than 'I'm gay,'' she said. She recalled making out in the bar with Ms. Hoffman after the taping.
'I love P.D.A.,' Ms. Windey said, trailing off into song, belting out the chorus of 'What's Up?' by 4 Non Blondes playing from a nearby jukebox. (She did not sound half bad, for any casting directors on singing-based reality television shows who might be reading this.)
Ms. Windey's turn on 'The Traitors' has widened her audience on social media, where clips from her podcast, 'Long Winded,' regularly find tens of thousands of viewers. The meandering monologues, which Ms. Windey often delivers while wearing sunglasses inside, feel more like free-associated spoken word poems than typical podcast fodder.
'No, I have business hours. What are you doing calling me after 3 p.m.? I've lost all my confidence. I've just had lunch. I'm lethargic,' Ms. Windey said in a clip that was shared by the model Bella Hadid and has since become a meme.
She also often jokes about her mental health, drawing inspiration from some unlikely places, like 'The Catcher in the Rye,' which she's reading for the first time. 'He kind of sees things in a way that I do,' she said of its author, J.D. Salinger. 'I think everyone's inherently sad because I am.'
Ms. Windey added she was intrigued by his reclusive tendencies.
'I can't wait till I get to the place where I can say no,' she said in a TikTok video the next day, announcing that she had fallen ill because of her packed schedule. 'You'll know when I start saying no, because you'll never see me again.'

How to cancel your Max subscription in 5 easy steps

Streaming newcomer, Max, surfaced in Australia just under three months ago. Becoming the official home to HBO content, including Warner Bros. Discovery, TLC, HGTV and The Food Network, Max has a great back catalogue. And it arrived with a pretty appealing introductory offer, cutting subscription prices nearly in half for the first year of the service. However, that offer has come and gone, ending just a month after the streamer launched. That said, you may have subscribed to the new streamer just to find that you're not keen on the US TV giant's catalogue, or you're only interested in when new seasons of hit shows drop, like The Last of Us or The White Lotus. Given the price hikes that have hit many streaming services in the past 12 months, it's hard to justify holding onto some of your subscriptions — and we get it! So if you need help cancelling your Max AU subscription, we've got you covered in five simple steps. Do note, though, these steps don't fully delete your account, and you can always reactivate your plan at any time. If you want to cancel your Max account, you'll need to log into the streaming service using a web browser on a computer. Please note that you cannot cancel your Max account using the app on a mobile device or Smart TV. Hover your mouse over your profile icon in the top right corner of the homepage. A drop-down menu will appear under your profile icon. You'll need to select Subscription. On your Subscription page, you'll need to scroll down to the 'Current Plan' section. This is where you'll see your plan details, including your next billing date and payment information. You will see an option under this section that reads 'Cancel your subscription'. Click on this to proceed. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. A pop-up window should appear and ask you if you want to confirm your cancellation. Max will prompt you to look at other plan pricing as well and will also feature your next billing date and advise that your account will remain active until this date. After this date, your account will indeed be cancelled. You will need to select the 'Continue to Cancel' button at the bottom of the window to complete the cancellation process. You will also receive a cancellation confirmation email to the address registered on your account. Cancelling Max really does come down to whether or not you're getting enough value out of the platform. If you find yourself opting for a different streamer or find that Max's catalogue isn't worth your while, then cancelling your account may be your best option. It's worth noting that Max does offer cheaper subscription options, so if you find yourself paying too much, we'd recommend dropping down a tier. Otherwise, if you're looking for recommendations on what streaming services to try this month instead, here's what we suggest. Thinking of cancelling Max this month? Here's what we recommend instead. June is a stellar month to sign up for Disney Plus, thanks to a juicy EOFY offer that sees new and eligible returning subscribers score a four-month subscription for just AU$4.99p/m (the AU$15.99p/m ongoing). Disney Plus' blockbuster lineup includes a new season of FX's The Bear and a brand-new Marvel series, Ironheart, on June 25. You'll need to act fast if you want to nab this deal, though, as it will end on June 11, 2025. It's up to you on how you choose to spend your hard-earned cash, so if you're looking for ways to save on your streaming subscriptions, you can check out our streaming services price comparison hub.

Aimee Lou Wood & Adam Long Spark Dating Rumors Following PDA in London

Aimee Lou Wood, best known for her acting exploits, is making headlines once again, as photographs of her cozy outing with Adam Long surfaced online. They were spotted engaging in public displays of affection (PDA), sparking a wave of dating speculation among fans. Fans of The White Lotus star were quick to notice the chemistry between Aimee Lou Wood and Adam Long when the two were recently photographed enjoying a PDA-filled day in London. On Saturday, June 7, the 31-year-old actress and her 34-year-old Happy Valley co-star were seen kissing and embracing during a casual coffee date. The couple kept their attire laid-back. Long sported drawstring shorts and Levi's T-shirt, while Wood wore a trendy all-denim outfit paired with bold red flats. Their rumored romance began gaining traction while filming their upcoming BBC project Film Club, which Wood co-created. In the series, Wood plays Evie, who launches a film club with her best friend Noa. This new buzz around Aimee Lou Wood's personal life comes just after she and The White Lotus Season 3 co-star Walton Goggins denied speculation of an off-screen feud. In a recent interview with Variety, Goggins said, 'There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me… But she's special. She is love, and I know that I am that to her. We care about each other very deeply.' Wood echoed the sentiment, adding that she had grown tired of addressing baseless internet gossip. 'Eventually, I just started to sit back and watch these people making something out of absolutely nothing,' she stated. As of now, neither Aimee Lou Wood nor Adam Long has commented publicly on the rumored romance. Stream It Or Skip It: ‘The Real Housewives Of Miami' Season 7 On Bravo, Where Alexia Nepola And Larsa Pippen's Breakups Are Immediately Addressed

It's been more than a year since The Real Housewives of Miami wrapped its sixth season, but the hit Bravo show is finally back — and the ladies are bringing the heat. Executive producer Andy Cohen has been teasing Season 7 for a while now, telling fans on Watch What Happens Live that this season is 'unbelievable' and that the dramatic teaser didn't even 'scratch the surface.' But was he right? We watched the first episode to decide for ourselves. Keep reading for our full review of The Real Housewives of Miami's Season 7 premiere: Opening Shot: Five months before production for Season 7 was supposed to begin, Todd Nepola shockingly filed for divorce from Alexia Nepola after two years of marriage. When Bravo decided to pick up cameras early (in April 2024, days after Todd filed), Alexia shared her side of the story, revealing that she was, indeed, 'blindsided' by his decision to end their marriage. The Gist: While everyone came together to support Alexia in the wake of her separation, some friendships took a turn for the worse in the five months between Todd's divorce filing and the actual start of production. In the premiere episode of The Real Housewives of Miami Season 7, tensions are already boiling between Lisa Hochstein and Larsa Pippen, and Julia Lemigova and Guerdy Abraira. But the drama, particularly between Lisa and Larsa, all comes to a head when they come face to face at Jody's birthday party. What Shows Will This Remind You Of? The Real Housewives of Miami is just like any other Real Housewives show — just a little spicier and, at times, a lot louder. Our Take: The Real Housewives of Miami has had an interesting run. The show aired on Bravo for its first three seasons before it was placed on pause. Eight years later, it was revived on Peacock for Season 4 and Season 5 — and finally brought back to Bravo for Season 6 and, now, Season 7. Giving this franchise a second chance on Bravo was, truth be told, one of the smartest decisions the network has made (besides giving Cohen his own talk show). The drama is always top-tier, the aesthetics are chic, and the women are just the right amount of delulu that keeps Bravoholics coming back for more — and Season 7 is no different. So much has happened since we last saw the Miami ladies on our screens. Alexia has gotten divorced (even though she and Todd seem to be back together in some capacity), Larsa and Marcus Jordan's fairytale relationship has come to an end, and Julia has welcomed two new members to her family. The good thing? Almost every single life update is addressed in the Season 7 premiere. Confrontations are held. Tears are shed. Heck, we even get a theme party! Essentially, everything we love about The Real Housewives is right there in Episode 1 — and if they can keep that same momentum through all 10+ episodes, Bravo fans are surely in for a treat. I think it's safe to say that Cohen was right about this one, folks. Sex and Skin: The closest we get to sex and skin is Adriana making out with her new French boyfriend on the couch at Jody's birthday party. Sleeper Star: Kiki Barth has what it takes to be the star of The Real Housewives of Miami — if only Bravo would give her a full-time contract! She's gorgeous, she's honest, and her witty confessionals are next level. It's time that Kiki finally gets the recognition she deserves. Most Pilot-y Line: 'She's crazy. She's drunk and stupid. And she is a bitch.' I don't normally pick catty lines for this one, but I can already see this getting turned into a viral TikTok audio. Thank you, Larsa! Our Call: STREAM IT. The Real Housewives of Miami Season 7 is on FYAH. The Real Housewives of Miami premieres Wednesday, June 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
