SCO meet: Rajnath Singh's stance against terrorism and Pahalgam attack was countered by Pakistan and..., even THIS country didn't stand with India
Not just at borders, but India also have to fight diplomatic battles with Pakistan and China. In the meeting of the Defence Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in China, both China and Pakistan tried to play with India. However, failed miserably. Surprisingly, a country which calls itself India's ally, also didn't stand up for New Delhi.
India's stance against terrorism and Pakistan-backed terrorists was countered by Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif's question on Kulbhushan Jadhav, Jaffar Express and Balochistan. Pakistan calls Kulbhushan Jadhav an Indian spy, while India says that the Pakistani intelligence agency kidnapped him from Iran and forcibly kept him in captivity. When Rajnath Singh wanted to respond to this baseless claim of Pakistan, SCO Chairman China did not approve it. Not only this, the Pahalgam attack was not mentioned in the joint statement but Balochistan was named. Understanding this trick of China and Pakistan, Rajnath Singh did not sign the joint statement.
What was Russia's stance?
Russia who has always termed itself as New Delhi's friend also did not come ahead in India's rescue. During this time, Russia also signed the joint statement and did not support India.
What did Pakistan minister say?
Khawaja Asif said, 'I gave my speech at number five where I raised the issue of Jaffar Express attack and Kulbhushan Jadhav.' Meanwhile, the Indian Defense Minister requested China, the chairman of the conference, to speak again. China rejected this request of India and cited the alleged tradition. He said that except India, the defense ministers of all other countries signed the joint statement.
Rajnath meets Chinese counterpart
Rajnath Singh held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Admiral Dong Jun and stressed on border management and to have a permanent solution of border demarcation by rejuvenating the established mechanism on the issue.

Today in Politics: Lok Sabha set to discuss Shubhanshu Shukla's space sojourn
The Lok Sabha will hold a special discussion on Monday on the subject 'India's first astronaut aboard the International Space Station – Critical role of the space programme for Viksit Bharat by 2047 – to mark astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla's return to India. Shukla returned to India early Sunday to a rousing welcome by a large number of people waving the tricolour and beating drums at the airport here to celebrate his historic visit to the International Space Station (ISS). The Monsoon Session of Parliament will resume on Monday, 18 August after a brief break, but there are no signs of a thaw between the government and the Opposition over the demand for a debate on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Monsoon Session ends on 21 August. Shukla is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and travel to his hometown, Lucknow. He is also expected to return to the capital to participate in the National Space Day celebrations on August 22-23. Shukla, who became the second Indian to undertake a spaceflight as part of the Axiom-4 mission, and his back-up astronaut-designate Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair were welcomed at the airport by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and ISRO Chairman V Narayanan. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two-day visit to India beginning Monday, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The meeting, to be held on Tuesday, assumes significance as it is taking place days before Modi's planned trip to China to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Before calling on the PM, Wang will hold separate talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval that could see both sides deliberate on a range of key issues including border situation, trade and resumption of flight services. The Chinese foreign minister's visit is largely seen as part of ongoing efforts by the two neighbours to rebuild their relationship after it came under severe strain following the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020. The two sides are expected to discuss new confidence-building measures for durable peace and tranquillity along their contested border during Wang's visit, people familiar with the matter said on Sunday. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a batch of pleas challenging the appointment of Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta on grounds that due process was not followed. A bench of Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justices K Vinod Chandran and NV Anjaria is scheduled to hear the petitions challenging Gupta's appointment. Several petitions have been filed, including by Leader of Opposition in Jharkhand Assembly Babulal Marandi, who has challenged the appointment of Gupta as Director General of Police (DGP) of the state. Gupta was set to retire on April 30 under the Central government's rules on reaching the age of 60 but the state government wrote to the Centre for extension of his tenure.

Parliament Watch: Highlights of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Monday August 4
Monday (August 4, 2025) in Parliament was no better than the previous days. While the Rajya Sabha was adjourned early following the death of its member and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha attempted to function, but Opposition members did not stop protesting in the House. When it was reconvened at 2 p.m. following the morning chaos, officiating Chair Jagdambika Pal requested the members to allow a discussion on the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 which he said was brought by the government with the aim of bidding for the 2036 Olympics. The National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on July 23 but the House was adjourned soon after and a discussion was not held. This Bill seeks to regulate the various sports administrators in India. It constitutes a National Sports Board (NSB) which will oversee all sports federations, including India's richest sports body – the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Two prominent sports body which have opposed the Bill are BCCI and Indian Olympic Association (IOA), citing curtailing of autonomy. According to the Bill, the National Sports Board or NSB will have power to recognise, suspend or cancel registrations of sports organisations. It will also collaborate with international and national sports bodies to ensure compliance with the international standards, protection of the rights of athletes and support personnel. The board can suspend or cancel recognition of a sports body if its international recognition is suspended/cancelled, if it violates any part of this Act, if it has failed to hold elections, publish its annual audited accounts for misused, misapplied, or misappropriated any public funds. No sports organisation will be recognised unless it is a registered society, an incorporated not-for-profit company or a registered trust. The Centre is empowered to appoint officers and employees to discharge NSB's functions. The Bill also says that any sports organisation seeking to use the word 'India' or 'Indian' or 'National' or any national insignia or symbols in any language in its registered name, operating name, logo, or otherwise must obtain a no-objection certification by the Centre. Not everyone is on board with the Bill, though. In October last year, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha had first raised concerns over the Bill citing government infringing on the IOA's independence. She had stated that the NSB may 'lead to a conflict between the government and international sports governance bodies, particularly the IOC, which has previously suspended many National Olympic committees for excessive governmental interference'. Is passing Bills without discussion the new normal?
The Opposition is relentless in its demand to discuss in Parliament the Election Commission's (EC) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, but that does not seem to stop the government from passing legislations in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. On Thursday (August 7, 2025), the Lok Sabha passed the Manipur Appropriation Bill, 2025, without a discussion even as the Opposition continued to protest loudly in the House through the process. The Bill, presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, authorises the State to spend ₹30,969 crore on its expenditure requirements during the current financial year. Ms. Sitharaman said that the Opposition's concern for Manipur was equivalent to 'crocodile tears' because they weren't allowing a discussion on releasing funds to the State marred by ethnic violence. Manipur has been under President's Rule since February 13, 2025. The Rajya Sabha passed the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024 on Thursday. Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the legislation will reduce the compliance burden for Indian ships and will unlock the full potential of country's coastline. He said the Bill is also in tune with the concept of ease of doing business and ensures supply chain security for the country. In another important development, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, at a press conference, accused the EC of 'criminal fraud' and collusion with the BJP to steal elections. Mr. Gandhi claimed that 1,00,250 'fake votes' were created in the Mahadevapura Assembly seat under the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency to ensure a win for the BJP. In response, the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) asked him to submit his evidence under oath. Mr. Gandhi listed out five different ways through which the alleged vote chori (theft) was done: duplicate voters, fake and invalid addresses, bulk voters at a single address, invalid photos, and the misuse of Form 6. The BJP, meanwhile, accused Mr. Gandhi of showing 'selective outrage', stating that his allegation about 'large-scale' electoral roll fraud was a sign of 'frustration and election rage'. On Friday, the Congress leadership, including party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Mr. Gandhi, will take out a protest march to the ECI office in Bengaluru. In other news, leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) have agreed in principle to field a candidate for the Vice-Presidential election even though the Opposition does not have the requisite numbers to win the election, just to force a contest. The decision was taken at a dinner meeting of the bloc hosted by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. This was the first physical meeting of the INDIA bloc partners after a gap of 14 months. The last meeting was on June 1, 2024. The Election Commission notified the election on Thursday. Nominations should be filed by August 21, and the election is scheduled to be held on September 9. Meanwhile, leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) unanimously passed a resolution authorising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief and Union Minister J.P.
