Lakers jersey history No. 4 — Frankie King

Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary. As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years. Here is a look at Frankie King, a guard who briefly played for the Lakers in the 1990s. King started his college career at the College of Coastal Georgia (then known as Brunswick College) and then spent two seasons at Western Carolina University. While at Western Carolina University, he averaged 26.7 points and 7.4 rebounds a game. The Lakers took him in the second round of the 1995 NBA Draft. He appeared in six games for them during the 1995-96 season and averaged 1.2 points in 3.3 minutes a game. King spent a brief period of time during the following season with the Philadelphia 76ers after they signed him to a 10-day contract. He would then go on to play a decade of pro basketball in Europe for numerous teams. This article originally appeared on LeBron Wire: Lakers jersey history No. 4 — Frankie King

Warriors predicted to cut ties with Jonathan Kuminga, acquire $77 million Lakers outcast

Warriors predicted to cut ties with Jonathan Kuminga, acquire $77 million Lakers outcast originally appeared on The Sporting News Will the Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga ever land on the same page? Most likely, but it will require patience from both parties. Last Tuesday, Sactown Sports 1140's Allen Stiles elected to weigh in on the hot topic, suggesting that swapping Kuminga for a Los Angeles Lakers outcast should be viewed as a viable option for the franchise. 'It is safe to say that the Sacramento Kings do believe, or at least they hope that's going to be the case,' Stiles stated. 'That Jonathan Kuminga will continue to say, 'I'm going to sign that qualifying offer.' And at the buzzer, the Golden State Warriors will say, 'Alright, well, we can't afford to lose him for nothing, and Malik Monk and a protected pick — that's much better than nothing. So let's go ahead, do the deal, and be done with it.'' Monk was a solid rotational piece for the Lakers during the 2021-22 season. As a score-first 6-foot-3 guard known for being a tough perimeter shot maker, Monk has the green light on the offensive end more often than not. Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp The Kentucky product averaged 13.8 points per game on 47.3% shooting from the field and 39.1% shooting from downtown in his lone season with Los Angeles. Monk was nearly a 20+ points per game scorer this past season as a member of the Sacramento Kings, notching 17.2 points per contest in 65 outings. However, the former lottery pick struggled with his three-point shot in Year 8, as he only recorded a 32.5% long-range shooting percentage. Monk hasn't found his touch from beyond the arc since joining Sacramento in 2022, connecting on less than 37% of his triples for three consecutive campaigns (giving Dubs fans a valid reason to question his fit with the franchise). Still, if Golden State is committed to moving on from Kuminga swiftly, it may allow Monk to show he can be an above-average contributor in its three-point-focused offense. More NBA:

Chicago Sky Coach Addresses Potential Angel Reese Decision

Chicago Sky Coach Addresses Potential Angel Reese Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Sky have struggled with the loss of Angel Reese. Chicago has been playing without Reese since late July because of back issues. Her last game appearance was July 29 against Washington. While she found success under coach Tyler Marsh this year, the injury setback has significantly curtailed Reese's second season. Ahead of the Sky's game against the Connecticut Sun, Marsh was asked if there had been discussions about shutting Reese down for the rest of the season given how far out of a playoff spot but how close to the No. 1 pick in next year's draft the team is with a dozen games remaining. "I'd leave that to the medical staff," Marsh said. "For us and for Angel, if she's healthy and she wants to play and we want her to be out there, to be able to play. We don't want to put her in harm's way to further any existing injuries. For us it's just making sure that she's as healthy as possible. That's always been the most important thing. With the games remaining when she's ready to go then she will be out there." Angel Reese made the All-Star team for the second straight year and continued to establish herself as one of the best forwards in the WNBA. She is widely regarded as the most versatile player on the Chicago Sky roster. Throughout her second season in the WNBA, Reese has averaged 14.2 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game for the Chicago Sky. Reese was averaging a double-double and poised for her second straight season accomplishing that feat. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 13, 2025, where it first appeared.
