IGP allowed to commence second committal proceeding against Papagomo
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here today allowed an application by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain to commence a second committal proceeding against blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris for violating the terms of his apology previously ordered by the court.
The application is related to a RM3 million lawsuit filed by Razarudin against Wan Muhammad Azri, also known as Papagomo, over alleged defamation, which also involved Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Judicial Commissioner Gan Techiong decided the matter after hearing the submissions by lawyers Raam Kumar and Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, representing Razarudin and Wan Muhammad Azri, respectively.
'The inter-parte (both parties) hearing for the committal order is set for June 30, at 10 am, and the presence of the defendant (Wan Muhammad Azri) is mandatory,' said the judge.
The court also ordered Wan Muhammad Azri to file the affidavit-in-reply on or before May 23, while Razarudin was given until June 6 to do so. They are also ordered to submit the written submissions on or before June 20.
Raam Kumar, in his submission, said that argued that Wan Muhammad Azri should have remained silent after the apology was made in court on April 30.
'On May 1, the defendant deliberately published a video via TikTok (Papa Azri) and YouTube (Sir Azri), and the statement contradicted the written apology that had been agreed to in the previous committal order.
'The apology was not sincere and was not published through the same social media account as ordered by the court. The apology on social media, accompanied by the background music of 'Maafkan Kami' from a clip from the film 'Pendekar Bujang Lapok' directed by the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee, was a joke,' said the lawyer.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Rafique said his client had no intention of defying the court's order and that the apology had already been posted on the defendant's social media accounts and reported by the media.
Last Monday (May 5), Razarudin filed a notice of an ex-parte application seeking a committal order for Muhammad Rafique to be arrested and brought to court and imprisoned for contempt of court.
Razarudin filed the application on the grounds that Wan Muhammad Azri failed to comply with the conditions to delete the publication of videos dated Jan 14 and 15, related to defamation suit filed against him, in addition to not posting the apology that was read out in court last April 30 on his social media platforms YouTube, TikTok, X and Telegram.
On Feb 10 this year, the court granted Razarudin permission to commence committal proceedings against Wan Muhammad Azri for allegedly failing to comply with the injunction order on January 10 by posting about Razarudin on the YouTube, TikTok, X and Telegram applications.
However, on April 30, Wan Muhammad Azri issued an unreserved apology to Razarudin for violating the injunction order.
The injunction prohibits Wan Muhammad Azri or his agents from publishing or disseminating defamatory content in any form concerning Razarudin, whether in his official capacity as IGP or as an individual. This includes written, verbal, videos, online or instant messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram
The court also ordered Wan Muhammad Azri to retract and delete videos posted on Dec 14,15, 20 and 22 last year on his YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Telegram and X accounts, which were deemed defamatory.

He also acknowledged the presence of 'quiet movements' signalling the possible need for a change in leadership. 'That's why the ulama faction insists that the party's top two positions must continue to be held by religious scholars. 'But the pressure from the professionals seems more pronounced right now, because there's a sense that PAS needs reform,' he said. Azmi added that while PAS members were known for their loyalty to the party's leadership, many believed that change was necessary, albeit voluntary change and not through force. 'That's why there's a quiet, indirect movement to signal to Hadi that change is needed. Man refuses to pay bail for 16-year-old son who pleaded guilty to rape

(Pexels pic) PETALING JAYA: A man has refused to pay the RM1,500 bail imposed by the Batu Pahat magistrates' court on his 16-year-old son who pleaded guilty to raping a female acquaintance earlier this month. The 40-year-old man said this was to teach his son a lesson, after the boy's plea before magistrate Arun Noval Dass. Advertisement Berita Harian reported that the man, who accompanied his son to court for the charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, left his son there without paying the bail. The boy was accused of raping his 15-year-old acquaintance at a house in Batu Pahat between 4pm and 5.30pm on June 2. The section provides for up to 20 years' imprisonment and a whipping, upon conviction. According to the police report lodged by the boy's father, the boy committed the offence while his mother was at work. She knocked on his door several times before it was opened, and found the girl in his bedroom. A police investigation found both the accused and the victim admitting to having had sex 16 to 18 times. Ukraine's drone attack halts work at electronic plant in Chuvashia, Russia says
(Reuters) -Production was temporarily suspended at an electronics company in Russia's Volga river region of Chuvashia, some 1,300 km (800 miles) from the border with Ukraine, after two drones fell on the plant's territory, the head of the region said on Monday. The strike - among the deepest into Russia by a Ukrainian drone in more than three years of the war - caused no casualties, Chuvashia Governor Oleg Nikolayev said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app. But "the responsible decision was made to temporarily suspend production to ensure the safety of employees" of the VNIIR enterprise where the drones fell, Nikolayev said. It was not immediately clear whether the drones caused any damage. Nikolayev said that another drone fell onto some fields in the area of the capital of the region, Cheboksary. The Russian defence ministry - which reports only how many drones were destroyed not how many Ukraine launched - said on Telegram that its units downed two drones over Chuvashia. In total, it said, air defence systems destroyed 49 Ukrainian drones overnight over Russia. According to photos and videos on unofficial Russian and Telegram news channels, the drones sparked a fire at the VNIIR plant that they said produces components for electronic warfare. Reuters could not independently verify the reports. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine. Kyiv has often said that its attacks inside Russia are aimed at destroying infrastructure key to Moscow's war efforts and are in response to the continued Russian strikes on Ukraine. The VNIIR Russian Scientific Research Design and Technological Institute of Relay Engineering with experimental production in Chuvashia is on the U.S. sanctions list, according to the U.S. Treasury website. A Ukrainian drone attack on the Voronezh region that borders Ukraine damaged a gas pipeline, cutting off gas supplies to 22 clients, the region's governor, Alexander Gusev, said on the Telegram.
